    CCTV LCD Monitors

Rory, Yes! GE's pricing is somehow higher than normal, but if we are talking about picture quality alone, then it is great! Levon

    CCTV LCD Monitors

Rory, Most of the major manufacturers offer CCTV LCD monitors. Resolution is excellent and most of the come with standard 3 years warranty vs. tube monitors with 1 year warranty. Typical Department store can have between (40) to (80) 9" & 15â€

    American Dynamics DG4009

Herm, This is an obsolete product (All the DiguMux products were dropped by American Dynamics few months ago...). I belive it was an embeded systems and we had major problems with it (you never guess how many we sold). It was being manufactured by a Korean company who apperently tried to pull a fast one over time. They replaced it with 8 channel Intellex (windows 2000 based)... Levon

    Help finding dome camera

I recommend Ganz MiniDome with pendent mount. This minidome comes with hi res 480TVL color camera and with varifocal autoiris lens (2.8mm - 10.0mm). The picture quality is excellent. You can install this any way you want indoor or outdoor (outdoor version comes with its own outdoor housing). You can surface mount it, wall mount it or by adding pendent kit, you can suspend it from ceiling using any length pipe. We have used these minidomes in many warehouse application and the picture quality was exceptional. The pricing is under $300.00 Here are the specs with pictures: http://www.cbcamerica.com/cctvprod/ganz/housings/hsg_pdf/ZC_series.pdf These minidomes come with (3) years exchange warranty. Levon

2 of the same cameras - 1 has issue

Rory, Which manufacturer baluns are you using? What is the CAT5E cable distance and how are you connecting this cable to the balun? I have seen this problem with NVT passive baluns and as soon as we replaced it with VU baluns, the problem went away. You also can try to double up (2) pairs of the CAT5 and that also helps. Let me know. Levon

  12. Herm, You are right - they are out of business.... Derek, you can get another cost effective VCR that can give you 960 hours recording capability or even more. There are many out there, but we have a great success with Mitsubishi VCR. It is HS-1280U that gives you up to 1,280 hours of recording... Here is a URL that can give you all the details for this product: http://www.securitysupplyhouse.com/miretivcr.html Levon

What Operating system do you use??

Rory, It all depends.... In case of Linux, of course not...

What Operating system do you use??

Thanks Guys... I was just very curious what everyone uses. Just few comments, if I may. It is a fact that Linux is installed on over 60% of the servers throughout the world. If you really do your research, you will confirm that Yahoo, Google and other majors are using Linux for their servers and most of their workstations. The whole Google infrastructure is based on Linux and that should be noted... As for drivers and functionality, like anything else, it is just matter of getting use to a newer OS environment. I have been using Linux very long time and without any hiccups. Yes, sometime specific drivers for a newer products, i.e. video cards, sound cards are not available immediately, but there is a tremendous support for this OS and it does not cost you anything. I just hate when only one company – Microsoft is given so much power and control and prices they charge for similar applications that you can get them free for Linux. As for everything that you may like with Microsoft based OS, it is available in Linux. To us, it is very practical and for the updates, extremely simple. If you really follow this trend, you will find out that not only it delivers the goods, but it does not cost you anything! Levon

What Operating system do you use??

Rory, Just curious - What is XP can do in your mind that Linux can not??? Is it the MS based applications, i.e. office pro, etc.? I'd like to know your personal assesment.

    LED Infrared Illumination questions....

Dana, Can you please tell me which Panasonic cameras you use? Levon
  17. GE recently showed their version of MPEG-4 DVRs... They are in process to move all their DVR line to this new technology. I was impressed with the video quality (in playback of course) and its use of much smaller file size than they used before. In GE's case, they are using a newer chip and newer bios algorithm to make this work... MPEG-4 is not a new technology, however for the security market it is... Utilizing this type of compression, it will be less expensive to manufacture thus, their overall DVR pricing will be lower... They should have this techonology DVRs available after March 1st!

    DM Sprite 2

Run away from DM - they have the worst service and warranty procedures... besides being more expensive than other majors, their video quality on playback is sub-standard....

bandwidth - its all about who you know

Rory, You must come and live in U.S.... Not sure what are you doing in beatiful Bahamas except having fun and chasing girls.... I have not been there for years, but it is a great place to take vacations... T3 is a 45M up and down and tied directly to internet main pipe... ADSL is excellent, but not stable. We used ADSL for years and had nothing but problems with 1.5M up and down. With T3, well we can distribute whatever we want and even operate as an ISP, if we want.... We have several customers who need high bandwidth for their websites and for their business near to us few miles away and in near by building and we are accomodating them with wireless dishes.. They pay less than what the actual ISP will charge, but it helps us with our monthly costs of over $6K for this line!

bandwidth - its all about who you know

You must have fractional T3 or (4) T1... The only reason you have 5M instead of 6M is because your ISP is giving you 80%. Now, if it so, you have a claim against them as if you are using any of the (2) above, they must deliver full bandwidth and not the percentage and they must charge only for 5M bandwidth instead...

    Need Help - CCTV MN-CCD-400B

GBC was bought by GE in recent years. Not sure of the product code, as it does not come up in any of our older price lists... Normally, these cameras operate with 12vdc power supplies... Can you describe the camera, is it a PIR or standard fixed, etc..?

    Bosch "NightSense"

Rory, You do not want my job, trust me - I have been doing this over 25 years.... I have a dealer in Bahamas who is mostly buying American Dynamics products... I know the local customs kills the overall pricing, but he is telling me that it is manageable... I do not want to go into much details, but may be we can e-mail each other.... Do you have my e-mail address?? I will get back to you weekends, as I will be out traveling to New York and then to Chicago in the next few days... levon

    Bosch "NightSense"

Everytime we receive a newer pricing (which happens almost every 2 months) seems like they drop their best sellers - go and figure.... Their main office is only 15 miles out of our main offices and we spend time with their technical guys and sales people. Great team of experts, but somehow all the decisions are made in Japan. I like their hi res cameras (520TVL). Not sure about their DVRs, even though in the recent months they dropped the pricing in an average of 20%.. I like their latest 1ch DVRs (30FPS) and ability to change the hard drive capacity without any problems using portable caddy.... I saw their latest POS software that is an add-on to their existing DVRs. It looks very interesting and does offer much less headacks on the interfacing with most of the POS equipment out there. I confirmed that they had this new software being tested in New York in several high profile store locations and they kicked American Dynamic's Intelleview out of both location... We will wait and see how well it will perform with out customer base... They also have some interesting cameras to be shown and introduced in the ISC show... Levon
