Now, after you resetted everything back to factory defaults, you still have the problem? You do not need to adjust BLC at all, unless you have reflection from lights to shiny objects or variations of lights... Is the problem still there after the reset?? If so, when did you buy this? If it is under warranty, I will recommend to have it replaced... Here is another test you can run - Once the camera is set to its default, move it to a different location and see if the problem still persists... Chances are it will, and if so, then there is a problem with the camera. The the problem that you are describing with shade of yellow lines has nothing to do BLC at all, if providing that is the only setting that you played with... Levon

Did you by any chance changed the factory setting of the Pano camera? Normally you will play with any of the setting very carefully only to serve the purpose (BLC, AGC and many more...) and with the ability to change setting on the screen menu, this can be a serious drag... There is a way to set all the setting back to factory default - refer to the manual for the direction. Once done, test it... Based on your initial results, please let us know what you see... It is not unusual to have this problem if the setting are messed with without a very specific reasons.. If after the resetting it back to factory you do not have it working correctly, there is a defenite posibility that something is wrong with the camera itself - regardless what Pano says, we have seen their cameras fail more so that what they claim... Herm, Either Pano CP-484 or Bosch LTC 0495 series. The ultimate solution will be Bosch LTC 0620 series..., but then again, it may price you completely out... I tell you, the ZC-Y30NH4 wide dynamic camera from Ganz will not be far behind for this application with its ability to use and program 32x electronic sensitivity enhancement (frame integration). Just make sure that you have a good lens... Levon

    I3 DVRs

Rory, is Kodicom really that good? I will take your word for it... According to my initial assessment, they offer 480FPS display resolution and 112FPS recording speed?? I do not understand... So, this is not a full 480FPS recorder, rather 480FPS display. Now, if they are offering 112FPS recording speed, what good is it, when the majority of the recorders are recording 120FPS or higher... that means their record speed is substandard... Let me rephrase my questions. 1. Has anyone worked I3 DVR? 2. What was your first and last impressions of these units? 3. Where are the gutchas? 4. If you are selling me this DVR, what are the attractive points and why? 5. I see that this DVR comes with 1 year warranty, again substandard warranty in the DVR world. Has anyone had any problems during this warranty? 6. How is their customer service? Are they responsive or just another Pano attitude? 7. How do they handle warranty repairs? 8. Are there any advanced replacements for the defective units within warranty period? 9. What exactly happens after the warranty is over and how do they handle the repair costs for their equipment outside of the warranty? 10. What is the overall experience that you may have had with this during and after the warranty period? May be these are too many questions, but to make any initial or long term investment with any manufacturer or a company, someone will be asking these questions if not more questions... Any takers? Give me your best shut and give me all the pros and cons that you know or experienced with this product line. No hype please, just facts and real results... Thanks, Levon

    I3 DVRs

So far if I understand it correctly, I3 is not the manufacturer, rather OEMing the equipment from Kodicom and making their changes in their facility... Has anyone used their products?? Some of the specs that I read are impressive, but with all the b.s. hype out there, I am not convinced that it is all that and bag of chips.... If you can share any information based on facts or any experience that anyone may have had before will be greatly appreciated. Levon

Mike, costs are always a major consideration when you are comparing high res color cameras, the lens and the mounting hardware vs. Mini-Domes. Also, the ease of installation and maintenance is even simpler (in case of Mini-Dome there are no replacement parts). It is not true that you can get a better picture resoution using conventional fixed cameras vs. Mini-Domes. It all depends if you are using brand name products vs. cheapo crap from second or third tier manufacturers... Additional advantages using Mini-Domes are that you can install them flash or surface mount or pendent configurations. That will be very difficult to match with conventional cameras, as mounting hardware will make the overall package even more expensive (in case of pendent that is)... It may be true that cosmetics is not that important, however the ease of installing and using Mini-Domes and making adjustments or later moving and re-installing makes it even more attractive option. As for variance of lighting conditions, well that can play a role in the overall picture quality. If you are selecing high res color cameras, regardless if you choose between conventional fixed cameras vs. Mini-Domes, you may not have sharp pictures.... That is when you may need fixed cameras with wide dynamic range features, that will give you up to 32 different sensitivity adjustment capability, thus allowing to adjust areas in the picture to be more sensitive to light vs. other areas of the same picture... Probably the most cost effective wide dynamic range cameras in the market are from Ganz ZC-Y30NH4 that deliver the goods Normally, you can mix and match going between both types of cameras - the areas where you have constant light, stick with Mini-Domes (and save money), whereas the areas that do not have good lighting conditions or fluctuation of lights (more lights in one area of the picture and less light on a different area of the same picture) then consider using high res color cameras with wide dynamic range option. Just make sure that you get a varifocal autoiris lens that will give you the option to adjust your viewing area to meet your expectations... As for outdoor package, dependent where you are located, you may need camera housing with heater or blower and then a day/night camera with a good lens to optain best possible pictures. OR, you can choose vandal resistent outdoor Mini-Dome with day/night camera built in along with varifocal autoiris lens... Last note, never settle for any CCTV equipment that comes with less than 3 years exchange warranty.... Levon

We too are involved heavy with access along with cctv... Combination of both product lines always is fun to work with! Levon
  18. For Active UTP, I will recommend equipment from American Fibertek. We have used them over NVT for many years and it is much more cost effective and better service. Here is their URL: http://www.americanfibertek.com/ You pick anything you want from their catalog and let me know and I will send you a quote... As for Passive Baluns, I will strongly recommend the VU products... These baluns also come with built in surge protectors and we never had any ground loop issues as described... This company is very small compared to NVT and others, but is an excellent manufacturer for these items and all they have for now are 2 products.. Just can not wait until they start producing the active baluns.... Our initial asssesment on the beta samples were excellent performers and besides the most cost effective units yet... Levon

    Access and CCTV integration

Rory, you may be right and I mean really may be... because in your case, you just want to specialize only on CCTV. There is nothing wrong with it... If you are in the security business and in CCTV maintly, it does not take much to learn access control or specially installation of electrified door hardware. Tools? Well, you will reuse everything you already have and then all you need is a dremole tool to cut or to shape the doors (providing that your doors are made out of metal) or to adjust the door's hinges and closures... Yes, it may seem difficult, but like anything else you do, you learn as you go... You did not learn CCTV overnight did you?? It is called learning curve. If you really want to, you will learn it and then that also becomes yet another trade that you can rely on. Door hardware is commonly available everywhere and it does not take much to learn how to... Police departments use the hand held one to find people who are hiding in the bushes or hiding in a very dark areas. It gives them an extra edge besides similar technology that is available with their helicompters, but not every police department has a helicopter to chase people... Another application is using these cameras are gaming hunders (belive it or not, we had sold hand held ones to a group of hunters in Africa).... Besides these uses, mainly military personnel... I know that the pricing is much higher than Extreme's, but it is doing much more than any of the Extreme's equipment, thus justifying the cost. I love Extreme's equipment and also delivers the goods and it is a well built equipment.. Levon

The minidomes that I am referring to also comes with a pendent mount kit for being able to install in an open ceiling by dropping down a 3/4" pipe. It is made by Ganz and here is the product information: http://reliablecctv.com/alt_pdfs/COMPUTAR%20ZC-D6039NHA%20Indoor%20Fixed%20Dome%201-3%20Inch%20Color%20hi%20res%20dome%203-9mm%20AI.pdf This minidome comes with 3 years warranty and delivers all the goods from functinality stand point and provides excellent picture quality.

Yes... but if I show them to you, then I have to send our US forces to track you down We have sold them maintly to military and in some governmental and NASA projects. I tell you that the results are really out of this world, including the price you pay for them... but then again, these type of cameras have a very specific uses, thus costs are justified. The one I like the most is the hand helf version with 20mm lens... You can see everything in a pitch dark environment and I could not belive the quality of the picture... and you can carry this pup on your belt!

    Access and CCTV integration

Rory, you do not need locksmith to install access control equipment and electrified door hardware. If you can install a camera and make adjustments, installing door hardware is much simpler... Never turn down a job! It does not matter whos equipment you use and what is the mechanism to open the door (cards, keyboards, proxi or scrambler keyboards), they all work the same. Ge has some very interesting product lines going from low end to high end access equipment. Well, the door hardware will always be different, as it is dependent on the door being electrified from from simple strike to completely modifying the doors internal hardware.... The most popular one that we use and which is the most dependable is from Von Duprin, but then there are doors that you will need hardware from other manufacturers or the customer can not justify costs for high quality door hardware.... and you do not have to be a locksmith to do it nor you need special expertise - just experience and over time, you will do most of what locksmiths do.... Rory, I concur that you can find something within the range of the VCR pricing, but you also know that most of it and if not all of them are crap. Are they really getting true DVR or imitiation of DVR? Besides, eyeuc is very specific regarding to his customer's requirement using VCR rather than some off brand...... Levon
  25. We have been using baluns from VU (www.VideoBaluns.com) for years and never had any ground loop issues or any problems. I know that even NVT that started this whole process does not recommend using their passive baluns to extend cat5e cables more than 750 feet, but with these pups, we are extending the same cables over 1,500' without any loss of video signal.. and the pricing is below $20.00... They also are in process to manufacture active baluns at much more cost effective pricing and we already seen it and I think it is the best ones yet.... Levon
