Excellent product... Expensive, but does deliver the goods. They had some serious problems last few years with their power supplies and specially their Maxtor hard drives, but in the recent months, major improvements. Keep away from conventional Intellex, rather stay with their rack mountable version. It is built much better, using better components and much cooler (they are using 3 fans vs. 2 fans in conventional version). Also, keep away from their older version systems, because you will face the same problems described above... This product comes with 3 years warranty on everything except hard drives (go and figure). If you talk to Sensormatic (ADT Retail), the warranty is only 1 year and try to figure that one out as well... We sell quite of few of these units in any hard drive configuration. They do have 4 channel, 8 channel and 16 channel models and total of (3) configurations - STANDARD, DELUX & PREMIER... All in all, it is considered a hi end DVR and it does work well... Levon

    Another random thought

Why do we need cameras at home anyway? Haven't we all see them enouph during the day working with them and now seeing more at home??? I rather keep my Glock, Smith&Wesson, Remington & Colt 45 Gold Cup near me at all times while at home and then lets see who will dare to get close There is nothing like the sound of the pumping shut gun... Looking for a decent varifocal indoor dome

Rory, As much as I like GEs DVRs, domes and the switches, we are not pushing their cameras or their minidomes as much and for a good reason - the quality of the picture is less than excellent and it is higher than average price. These mini-domes from Ganz provide excellent picture quality and come with several flavors in autoiris lenses. Few days ago they informed us that now we can purchase additional top hats that will make these mini-domes pendent mountable. This is not only my personal opinion, but our customers specially. Picture quality is very sharp and does produce real color seperation. Combined with being able to take both 12vdc and 24vac inputs, (3) years warranty and excellent replacement-warranty procedures, they actually started taking a lot of business from their counterparts.... Ganz 16 channel DVR

Very simple to use DVRs. This model comes with 250G, 500G, 750G and 1TB hard drive capacities. Also, it comes with (3) years warranty. Video playback quality is good. Functions are very simple and easy to program and it is in line with pricing of mid-range DVRs. Levon

    Bosch DVR-1A Single Channel DVR?

Do you want to keep your 16 channel multiplexer? If so, there are 1 channel DVRs available (some come without hard drives (basic hardware and its own cage) that allows you to put whatever size hard drive you want) that are very cost effective. Some of them are from Sanyo, GE Security and Ganz, all of which come with 3 years warranty!.... Please let me know and I can refer you a good solution! Levon

    Linux OS on Panasonic DVR's?

Panasonic have tried and failed using Linux based solutions before, however the discussion still exists. I very much dout that they will, as I met with the actual designers of their DVRs before (from Japan) and they prefer working with their own developed language and make their DVRs embeded... I think what that "rep" was trying to relay that he heard that Panasonic was/is/may be working on Linux based and this information have been around in the last 5 years.... I have not seen it nor asked if Panasonic's latest units are based on Linux... If you want, I can check and let you know. Levon

    Sanyo DSR-3506H80 DVR

May be only in Bahamas, Rory... In these parts of the world, GE Security is what people know and everyone knows that Kalatel is dead... You still are not getting my point, but then again, you are entitled to your own opinions... I respect the owners of this forum who have done a tremendous job to create it and everyone who participates and this allows a share of very valuable information, which otherwise is not easily attainable... I agree with Cooperman that this is a global forum and that there are much we learn about what is happening in CCTV throughout the world... If all you want to do just push an opinion and not facts, then what are we doing here? You want people to respect your "opinions", you must be direct to the point and be ready to substantiate your position, so that the information flow does not end up elsewhere.... and there is nothing wrong to ask and learn everyday... Heck, after over 25 years in this business, I still learn everyday and I did learn about newer products through this forum, which would not have been available to me personally by other means. And, I thank for everyone who made all the contributions so far to make this forum what it is - A TRUE SOURCE TO GET REAL ANSWERS TO REAL PROBLEMS! Levon

    Sanyo DSR-3506H80 DVR

Rory, I do not think you are getting my point, but that is ok.... You are a very young and agressive in what you know and belive in and I can respect that. But... Since you do not have a real experience with the majors due to whatever reasons that you face, try to be very curtious when you are commenting on specific products and specially from the majors... If you do not believe the spec sheets published by the majors, then what you are trying to relay is that the majors are playing a some sort of a game and belive me when I tell you - THEY DO NOT! Show me a spec of any product that majors make and give me a technological explanation and engineering reasoning and then I will evaluate it using my background and the engineering experience to confirm! If there is such an evidence that you can come up, you can start a major class action lawsuit against such major manufacturer for misrepresentation of their products and intentional fraud... Can you??? I can bet you whatever you want that you can not... When majors place a new product in the market, is not only that it just a new product, but they have an army of lawyers that make sure that it is and that is why each product they place in the market, it is patented or modified patent that belongs to them... Case and point: only few weeks ago Panasonic came up with SDIII technology that is different and guess what, will you dispute their latest specs??? As for if you like or dislike certain products from such majors, well, we all have our favorites and the ones we hate, but it does not mean that such products were misreprented... It is a good business specially in this forum to call the names of the products correctly and the names of the manufacturers specially. Afterall, there are many members that do not know what you know, thus it can mislead the topic and they can start searching for products or manufacturers that do not exist. Levon

    Sanyo DSR-3506H80 DVR

Rory, Did you read my comments? You made a statement and I gave you my side of the story, which is again, dependent who your customers are. I will never dispute cost effectiveness of any hardware, nor I stated that it is wrong to use them.... Rather, when you are dealing only with major brand manufacturers, then customers that want them will never change. This is called marketing, long term research and experience and specially who you know, rather what you know! Are you telling me that if you are given an opportunity to work on large scale project that uses nothing but major brand product line, that you will decline or are you saying that you know that you will not make enouph money? Rory, experience will be your best guide in life and not only in the business. Always watch and learn and there is nothing wrong to ask questions and belive me there are no stupid questions in the business.... rather not enouph knowledge.... and as for Kalatel (which actually GE Security), make a habit to use the correct manufacturer names and products names... anyone who does not know will be confused as hell.... Sanyo DSR-3506H80 DVR

Rory, I do not think you understand the true "Brand" value when you state that "none of these brand will pay the bills".. I can also see that you like GE Security DVRs, which in many cases you refer to as "Kalatel" DVRs...Guess what, we have been doing it for over 15 years and so far did not touch any second or third tier manufacturers... Only recently I have been reading about IView and hopefully we will carry them through Herm.... It all depends who your customers are, regardless if they are dealers or end users... I may understand the cheaper products are more accesible to much larger masses, but if you catering a specific group of customers that will never touch anything that is not a major brand, then you do not have much of any choice... Yes, Sanyo has been behind the curve more so than everyone else. The pricing was higher than usual, but they are changing and they want to compete specially with GE DVRs and DVRs from Bosch. We have a good knowledge where their limitations are, but has nothing to do with picture quality, rather overall frame rate available per box.. and this is changing also... Most of the majors already are using 120FPS DVRs, however, if you look around, smaller manufacturers are pushing the overall FPS to 480, thus keep pushing the envelope, therefore all the majors are following... Like in any other industry, if smaller companies do not come up with newer and better technologies, the majors will never change.. Levon

    Sanyo DSR-3506H80 DVR

Rory, They are basically the same technology and a good brand.. Some people like GE and some like Sanyo. By restricting ourselves with just GE will never pay the bills.. Besides, Sanyo's pricing is improving and they are competing, thus overall they are coming in-line with most of everyone else... Levon

IPIX cameras are excellent, expensive, but worth it... I know at least 8 manufacturers that are working with them to establish the necessary protocol to communicate with their cameras. I know that IPIX cameras are installed in White House covering several guest rooms... It is extremely popular with government projects... Levon

    Best $150 Color Dome

Never had any similar problems with Ganz products. Chances are it may have been defective to start off with. We are moving a lot of their cameras in many years and nothing what you describe, but again, chances are it may have been damaged before. I am sure they took care of it fairly quickly, and that is another major plus if you are dealing with Ganz... Levon

Thomas, Are you telling me that Bosch gave you their bi-phase code protocol??? That is very unusual, as we have been trying to get it in the last 10 years... I know their engineers personally who design their domes, controller and switches and I have yet seen them giving this information. Rather, we developed our own converters and translators by capturing codes and translating to another protocol, so that we can control their domes with different switches or control domes made by others using Bosch switchers.. How sure are you that you got their authentic protocol codes??? I also know a company in Mid-West that makes translators for most of known major protocols... and they also had to manually capture codes per function and make different translators themselfs... Sanyo DSR-3506H80 DVR

We never used Nuvico and we should according to many good posts that I have seen... The problem for us is that it is not a major manufacturer and majority of our dealers and customer do not care for it... I know that few other companies are OEM-ing their DVRs, but again, no demand yet... All the majors are behind the curve when it comes to DVR technologies. Smaller size manufucturers always are pushing the envelope, thus you always will have newer DVR features and functions with them before you see with majors... However, most smaller manufacturers are here today and gone tomorrow, therefore we can not rely on them. Sanyo has always been way behind the curve... I found out that the head of marketing of Panasonic now works for Sanyo and since I know what his capabilities are, I know that he will turn Sanyo around fairly quickly. I have seen their latest DVR and I thought it had major improvements and is worth the money. Besides, they always made very stable and cost effective DVRs, so I think these latest ones will follow the same path... Levon

    Panasonic WV-CP480

This model changes SDII completely. All Panasonic SDII are gone and being replaced by SDIII. As matter of fact, their low cost domes are gone too and if you want a Panasonic dome, you get their high end only... No replacements yet.. We have already used few of them and they look ok... Not sure if it is better that SDII version, but we will wait and see... The only major difference, according to Panasonic, is better "filtering" ---- I think since Bosch came with an excellent condender, Panasonic is trying to show that they have something better.... I DO NOT THINK SO! Pricing is $20 more than SDII version of the cameras, but not worth it. Sanyo and Ganz just introduced cameras that I think are very good condenders as well and at much more cost effective price! My advise - keep away from Panasonic for the next 3 months at least. They are "re-organizing".... Any order we place, it takes them at least 3 weeks to get product. No tech support help and no customer service. According to my information, they already shut down their New Jersey and Seattle locations and slowly moving everything and everyone to Chicago... Besides them dumping their reps, they also eliminated many older jobs within... And they always want to charge the most possible....???? Levon

    Sanyo DSR-3506H80 DVR

Yes it does... very primitive, but very stable... I saw their latest and greatest software and the DVR few weeks ago and I think finally they have done a great job to match up with at least the minimal DVR functionality requirements. They also will drop the pricing to compete more aggresively with GE and DM... Unlike their previous boxes, the newer ones come with POS interface ready - well, that is what they said, but we did not have a chance to test it yet. We should have product arriving in a few weeks after the ISC show. Levon

This is a very wishfull thinking, but in my opinion, we are few years away at the moment. This specially refers to all the major manufacturers that do not like to share information among themselves.. This is very true specially in different protocols that each uses to control their own hardware, specifically their domes... We work with few companies who make special converter boxes that allows mixing and matching different DVRs, software and hardware from various manufacturers, but it is less than perfect. Will this happen? Well, we will wait and see... Levon

    Sanyo DSR-3506H80 DVR

Solid DVR for 6-channel world... Few draw back though... their maximum DVR resolution is between 30FPS to 60FPS dependent on the model. Very good warranty (3 years) and exchange or replacement procedures in place if anything goes wrong. According to Sanyo, they are introducing 120FPS DVR that will be showing in the ISC. Already saw it and it is the same packaging, however they made some serious changes in the firmware that allows to achieve this type of resolutions... All in all, excellent product and structured as a medium priced DVR with excellent support... Levon
