  1. Pelco? Hell no If the Pelco is the last equipment available for security, I still will not move it... I found a source, not really happy with the price, but still a source. It is from American Video Equipment http://www.americanvideoequipment.com/catalog/pipc/pipc.htm... The pricing is very high, but it is available... Have some specialty customers who still use them and still belive them... if that makes any sense... Thanks guys! Levon

    Extreme Reg-L

Rory, I need help... I need to get the equipment list from you from Extreme CCTV that gives the ability to read license plates! Can you please tell me know what is the maximum area view to achieve this task? Also, does it come with video enhancement tool that give you this capability by zooming in an area in the video clip that can read license plates? Can you please send me e-mail on this topic? I will send you a follow up e-mail regarding this topic shortly... Levon

    Need a camera

Rory, did you ever use a camera with wide dynamic control? If I have to intrepret you answer, seems to me you have not and you can correct me if I am wrong Lighting conditions do matter of course. Price vs. performance vs. reliability vs. availability vs. who is installing and calibrating the camera and vs. delivery schedules are very important in any project. If I am reading the original question correctly, the member is asking a very simple questions and defining the price ranges. Now, we can recommend high end equipment from Extreme (including WizKid), Bosch, Pano and others, but they all out of the price range. B&W will work, but member wants color equipment. There are (2) models of day night cameras that I can recommend: first American Dynamics ADCA470CAFN and second Panasonic WV-CP254H that will conform in this price range including the lenses and both will perform well, but being able to control resolution of the picture, the wide dynamic camera from Ganz will do better and overall the best value and price... Need a camera

Rory, well you are close, but no cigar yet... What do you think lighting conditions are vs. "looking from dark area out to a bright area"?? Basically the same isn't it? With Wide Dynamic Range camera, you can adjust it to be more sensitive in a darker (less light) and brighter (more light) conditions. The beauty for this camera (I think you know which camera that I am referring to) is that it gives you this capability and then it is priced much lower than any comparible equipment out there... It is not a day/night camera, rather is a high res color with WD built in for much more control than your conventional color or even day/nights equipment... As for bright areas, regular hi res 480TVL mini-domes will do... Levon

    Reliable Supplier Needed

Can you be more specific with type of equipment you are looking for? Finding reliable supplier also has everything to do on what you are looking for... Which brands and if you know, which models of equipment do you need? There are quite of few very good companies that can supply you with good equipment and excellent service, but you need to define exactly what your requirements are. Quantity of the equipment does not matter, as your specs and requirements are more important.. If you are looking for cheap 2nd or 3rd tier products, do not expect much of reliable supply - people selling this type of hardware are very much dependent on their manufacturer in China and elsewhere. Reliable supplier also has everything to do with equipment that is known and dependable and with excellent track records... Also, where are you located? Levon

    Need a camera

Hey guys, Lets stick with the original question on hand and the price range that this member is looking for.... FX series is great, but it is out of his price range. Obviously the dome is an overkill, therefore it is not an option unless this member has money to burn.. We have done several restaurants and bars and I understand the limitation and B&W camera equipment will work just fine, except this member wants color camera equipment... I will still go back to my initial assessment... 1. Ganz Mini-Domes in the areas that have good lighting conditions 2. Ganz wide dynamic range camera for the areas with poor lighting conditions... It does fall into the price range, it gives him 3 years warranty and the most importantly, IT WORKS! Levon

    FPS vs. IPS

Coop, I couldn't agree more man But, they all make money using such confusion, therefore why change?? What I am refering to is an industry standard (presently nonexistent) - similar is what the PC business end up doing and over time, they all are adhering to such standards... As you said, in our dreams.... Levon

    Whats up with these guys?

Rory, Looks like they are referring to Bosch AutoTracking capability.... This feature is available on most of Bosch PTZ domes as an option and IT WORKS! Military uses this feature more than anyone else... To configure Bosch domes and to determine the correct product code, we use the following URL or have our customers to configure their own configuration domes as follows: http://www.autodome.com/ Once you go through the configuration of your dome, the last question is always if you want AutoTrack?? FPS vs. IPS

Ok, is there any technical information available that anyone may know? I do not mean spec sheets from manufacturers, as each and everyone will give you their own version and explanations... I have been gathering a lot of information from different sources, libraries, university sources, design teams, etc.... I may be pushing this too much, but I think this is a very important but yet, very misunderstood set of terminology that is being used very broad basis, but without all the specifics... Wouldn't it great that we all knew exactly what these keywords mean? How about being able to explain to all our customers exactly what they are, rather what the manufacturers think it is... Everytime we address this issue with any manufacturer, they take is that we all suppose to know this, however the main reason behind their inability to answer this type of questions is that they do not even know... Unless you talk to the development team of every manufacturer, experts that will give you the reality, the marketing people are just what they are, full of ...... Levon

    Bosch FlexidomeXT

We have been with Philips and now with Bosch for over 10 years. It is only in the recent 6 months that they are slowing down on information and specially newer pricing when available... My local Bosch rep (who works for Bosch) could not give me a good explanation for this... Levon

    FPS vs. IPS

Doug, do you see the confusion? If I were to talk to 100 professional, each and everyone of them will give you 100 different (not exactly 100) versions of their understanding... Recently I cornered a manufacturer on their claims of 480 IPS DVR and then you read 480Frames Per Second mixed within the same text and then they used 480 Fields per second on one of their other paragraphs... This is a major manufacturer... Well, when I pressed the issue, I had their engineer who designs these circutries or at least approves them (nobody can claim that they designed a new circuitry anyway) and he stessed that their box is a true 120 Frames Per Second box and has nothing to do with marketing hype... Then I went to their marketing department for explanation and their take, well it all depends how the end users perceive on this terminology and besides, customer do not buy because of this type of resolution, rather they buy because it is a major brand... I was surprised on their attitude and then took it directly with the head of the overall development department... I do not have to tell you how quickly the specs were corrected to show 120 frames per second and it happened in less than 24 hours... What I learned and I hope that I am relaying this correctly is that read the specs very carefully and when you are selling DVRs, stay with the accurate information, rather marketing hype generated by manufacturers. Your customers will appreciate your honesty, the inegrity and will improve your reputation - and reputation is the only thing we have in this industry and nothing else... - it takes lifetime to earn it and then it takes a simple mistake to destroy it all... Yup, I see it... As I said, shame on Bosch in not having this information available when they it is available... And yes, since it comes with NightSense, then it should work for your application... Sorry man... Levon

    FPS vs. IPS

Ok Doug... I read it somehow different through another spec sheet - Each "frame" actually contains two images separated in time by approx 1/60 s. So, what is the difference between FPS (frames per second) and IPS (Images per second) that was my original question?? I understand that this verbiage is loosley used by many manufacturers and dependent on the compression they use, they imply one of these descriptions.. Also what is very important to note is that when manufacturers stipulate that "their compression is better", it is not true. Regardless which compression method they use, all they do is modify the software portion less than few percentage points that stores such video and because of such a modification, they liked to call it their own... Then their marketing people take over, most of which do not have the basic knowledge anyway, and then they interpret it to what they feel it should say, rather the actual facts... Levon

    FPS vs. IPS

Hey guys, Thanks for all the inputs... In the nutshell, here is what we established so far: 1 Frame Per Second = 2 Images Per Second - Each "frame" actually contains two images separated in time by approx 1/60 second 2 Images Per Second = 1 Frame Per Second 1 Field Per Second = 1 Image Per Second 1 Picture Per Second = 1 Frame Per Second 1 Page Per Second = 1 Picture Per Second = 1 Frame Per Second I think this is a very good summary for the original quesion. Is this correct? Levon

    Bosch FlexidomeXT

Data, yup, Bosch changed bunch of things and looks like this mini-dome comes with the specs as described from our friend in Australia... Shame on Bosch - Can not not belive that not only theh did not inform us about these changes (including major changes on their Envrodomes), but there are bunch of products that also have their pricing changed... Their answer? Well, someone screwed up and forgot to send e-mail not only to us, but many of our counterparts.... It is their loss, not ours! Levon
  20. Are you presently using outdoor power supply with its weather proof housing or you are running power cable from inside to supply your 24VAC??? Are you using only (1) dome or several?? Depending on your answer, you may get away with $25.00 50VA power supply or more cost effective outdoor power supply around maximum $200 (multiple supply for multiple domes)... Levon
