And the playback is mpeg4?also what does D1 mean in relation to full size playback? Also how simple is the geovision software for relative ease of use for newbies as far as backing up evidence etc.l have to make a decision soon!! oh, and also is it possible for an expert to be able to modify or fix my cameras from a remote view location or at least log in to see and recommend, thanks for any info!!

Rory, would a pc based unit ie geovision give a better resolution for playback and/or evidence sharing,as l am also thinking of a similar setup.?

  10. l have the xg model, and was wandering if anyone has used the turbo model and is it any better than the xg model?the noticable differece l see is the file sizes ie. xg 1-2.5kb wheras the turbo is 2.5-5kb!!!! http://www.nuvico.com

    Nuvico NVXG-16000N

cd rw not working had to rma it back to nuvico. Also directions are not real clear like you said, remote playback not great!!
  12. l was just reading a couple of websites and thought this might be of interest to you all,you probably know this already but l thought it would be informative anyway!! which dvr manufacturers are using this compression method?? http://www.vendoma.com/technology/
  13. what is cif mode, and what is considered the best recording resolution or optimum resolution along with recording fps???
  14. l have the nuvico xg model 16 ch and my cd rw is not working,it wont open up,l called up tcech support and they said to a/ use a pin to open the draw which l tried and it opened but still doesnt want to record to drive. b/ use a crossover cable and save data to a external hard drive or a laptop.l bought the cat 5 cable however l dont think l am doing it right,l connected the cable to the back of my laptop and then connected the other end into the usb port on the dvr using an adaptor usb-cat5, reason l am doing that way because my wireless router is connected to the cat 5 connection on the back of the dvr!! l am new at all this stuff,so if someone can tell me the best way to record to a laptop or an external drive? from the recorded data step by step l would appreciate some help, thanks for any replies in advance.
  15. just spoke with a rep and was advised to buy a computer with gv 1248 card for 8 channels with an 600 gig hard drive complete with silver dvd cd rw 480/240rec.l have a cctv monitor and cameras already l am replacing a nuvico xg dvr that l have issues with and l am looking for a simplified setup with good recording quality and remote access with dynamic ip. He gave me a price but am not sure if it is retail or wholesale,if someone could could give me a quote you can pm me,l am looking to possibly buy in the next couple of days. ps. anyone with experience with this setup or recommend it? comments would be appreciated.

    complications

l have a nuvico 16 cam xg model dvr, with 400gig hd, however lam having some difficulty or let me rephrase it would like a simpler user friendly recorder!!Firstly the cd rw will not open so l can archive video to the police.Secondly the recorded picture playback quality is no where near, the viewed camera quality when looking at the monitor in real time. Also the remote view picture quality over the internet(cable modem with dynamic ip)is not too clear at all,and to cap it off if you are a relative novice you cant get good customer support at all!! l am looking to be able to a/ log in to my cameras from home not using or installing software, that l could possibly burn to dvd or cd on my computer at home in a understandable easy format that l could give to police and they could read the disk without special software!! b/very user friendly easy to use interface c/8-9 cam would be fine, l would need 1 month of hd space at approx 8fps 24 hours 7 days, with excellent recorded video image!! sorry for my rant but l would be grateful if a good suggestion for something that would fit these requests as l am ready to change this dvr.l would consider pc based aswell,as l heard the picture quality is better?? ps.the camera and dvr is used in a bar. Thanks in advance.

    complications

rory what is a dsp card and how would controling the cameras with a ir remote relate to my needs?l have a cctv monitor hooked up already to about 5 cameras, all l want is a simple user friendly system with remote access from home that l would say type in a ip number using windows xp to see the cameras on site ,that would be of good quality image wher l could save and burn to dvd or cd for evidence without the police or myself having to load manufacturers software to view the video(opens with media player or winamp etc ) even if the internet image is not great ,l would like quality recorded image stored on site, that l could access on site using a cdrw built, in to the recorder. if you or anyone knows of a quality user friendly package or dvr that would adress this that would be great, because this nuvico has a few issues that l am either not able to figure out or it is just not simple enough for me!!

    complications

any suggestions on set ups based on my criteria.l have the monitor and l also have a computer that l could use that is next to the dvr, but l would prefer a stand alone dvr if possible!!
  21. l am updating my existing system from 4 to 16 channel so l have 4 additional cameras for now which are 4 flexidomes by bosch and a 2 panasonics 924a and maybe 2 outdoor domes.l have existing hookups to 4 cameras w/siamese cable with power lead.My question is what is my best way to hookup additional cameras as they have only the 2 screws connection and if i was to replace some of my existing cameras with better quality is there anyway to use the existing wire ie cut the end lead and connect to terminals of new camera??l have bought a roll of 500ft of rg59 powered cable and bnc connectors and was thinking about a power supply but l want to know if l can combine everything in a powersupply and use also my siamese cable, and get rid of the bricks that l plug in? any suggestions much appreciated.
  22. l am using a nuvico xg 16 cam dvr and a combination of b/w bullet and colour dome and panasonic box colour camera, for different light areas,ie dark areas b/w and more light areas l try dome.
  23. jasper, its worth about what you pay for!!depends on your use etc.l used it for a bar and niteclub setting with different types of lights and lighting, l ended up buying better quality vari focal lenses, although it was an adequate camera!!

    Are the Nuvico Products good?

definately does not tell you that in the manual.thanks for the info. How exactly do you do this? l have a cable modem from cablevision hooked directly into the dvr (no router).l have seen on this forum that l would or could use a linksys wireless-gvpn broadband router with this dyndvs.org ,but l have no idea how to set it up,if you have experience or know how l would be grateful.
