This is my first post, and I am also a newbie at CCTV and DVRs.
We are trying to set up a Hikvision Net VR/DVR plus NAS and the problems we are facing are as follows:
When we connect a NAS box to the NETVR /DVR it needs to format the 200GB Disk.
It does this by creating 180 X 1GB empty .mp4 files.
This does not allow us to see which mp4 the video is being recorded into at any given time.
The possibilities are the following:
- Hikvision does this always and we cannot avoid it with Hikvision, so find a DVR/NETVR that does not do this.
- Hikvision does this with 3rd party NAS boxes, but a Hikvision NAS box would not face this problem (this is what a hikvision sales guy told me, not sure)
- We put some wrong settings into our DVR/NETVR configuration and after changing those we would be fine.
- If someone could suggest more solutions it would be great, perhaps a DVR/NETVR that allows SSH access.
The system we would like is as follows:
NETVR/DVR -> HD (local) +NAS -> We can SSH into the NAS and copy the most recent footage.
HikVision NET VR initialises NAS with 180 empty mp4 files
