    Sanyo HD 4mp Cameras

well that's ok -- which Is why I often discuss perceptual resolution. Some people may pay 10x for the better looking image - but I suspect in business, the least expensive solution that gets the job done, may be preferred by many customers.

    HDCCTV is the new standard

Expand a little ....... If you are intent on establishing a sequence of events but the frame rate of a recording has lost too many frames to provide a conclusive sequence, hence rendering the use of the recording useless, How does that differ from I suspect this guy is drawing a weapon but by the time the PTZ responds to my signal, he's already pushing "end call on his cell phone" by the time the PTZ responds. In both cases the application of VSS was useless!

Thank Rory: How does the unit compare on user friendliness: is the unit easy to setup in comparison? How do you rate the CMS/Network software in comparison Now that's the kind of response I was looking for!

Yes --- I didn't want to go that route --- out of respect to my manufacturer -- but Qsee both labels TVT and Dahua and other products i=under their own brands. Qsee definitely is not in the same league as TVT or Dahua

    HDCCTV is the new standard

hehe --- I didn't say it did --- i was merely questioning whether the significance therof was similar! Let see......A low FPS image captures a thug about to enter a store and then capture him again leaving the store, nothing of any use there. Now lets say an emergency situation is developing , the operator is inputting commands to the PTZ control, but the camera is only responding fractions of a second later. Indeed latency and FPS may have different technical definitions, but the implications of both can be lossely related.

LOL --- squirming is alway amusing! The purpose of a survey is to make sure that your product doesn't fall short of expectations -- you wouldn't know the answer to that before doing the survey now would you? Who mentioned Dahua? and why? You see. I don't really care to debate this further with you, because you are wiggling out of a corner. What i am concerned with is developing a quality survey that any dvr distributor could use to evaluate the product they are offering against similar products available to their client base. If you can't contribute substantive elements that might comprise such a survey/questionnaire -- why are you even responding at all?

    HDCCTV is the new standard

Sorry -- lets get a little more focussed. PTZ --- now thats known as active surveillance , as opposed to Passive surveillance. We all know that active surveillance is useless compared to passive surveillance - unless you have a live operator viewing and responding to inputs. In mission critical applications the difference between 15fps and 25fps could be significant - now you see him now you dont ----- That gets me wondering ------ how significant is the latency in an active system ? does it compare in any way to say the difference between a 7fps and a 30fps system. Since PTZ should only be deployed in situations where active surveillance is critical ---- what is the implication of latency??? Does a few fractions of a second matter when it seems that somebody may be drawing a weapon or reaching for a cell phone?

LOL --- obviously they not used to no latency!
  9. PiP zoom is a feature of some dvr's ---- I believe Hanbang has a very nice PiP zoom function.

One thing I am seeing - giving the solutions being touted here, the latency issue is of huge significance!

    Measure of Quality

My apologies - not just the product, but also the service I am selling them. If we exclude the petty - I am sure we could come up with a pretty decent survey/questionnaire that could be used by any distributor , regardless of the brand they represent. Don't you think that's important? To get your customers perception of how they perceive the quality of your product and service to be?

    Measure of Quality

dont see why you see it like that. but i was right. you are a distributor and not TVT. and thats all my point was. your question has many replies. i gave it on the dahua side. never used the Q see so cant comment. but i cant see how you can compare. TVT they all use the same O/S. Well lets see --- firstly you are implying that i claimed to be TVT, so you being right in my being a distributor isn't ground breaking, since my entire website and comments identify me as a distributor - hence what is the motivation of your commentary? You are plain wrong - my question does not have many replies: In developing a quality survey, that aims to test, amongst the integrators to whom you sell , the comparative quality of your product - regardless of what such product may be there are a closed set of potentials. I would like to know the quantitative comparisons, that you would include in a quality survey, intended to measure your performance as a dvr distributor. It seems to me you are trying to use this thread to plug your product! dahua, TVT, Hikvision, geovision --- what does that matter - I want to develop a questinoaire to send to my customers to determine where the product I am selling them....falls short of their expectation.

Tom, I gather that you seem to be antagonizing! Currently we represent TVT in South Africa but I don't wish to engage you on your argumentative disposition. I am interested in developing a quality survey that will help my company measure itself against other manufacturers representatives/ products/ etc...... The substance of my request was for assistance in developing a potential distributo/manufacturer performance assessment survey - not debating these issues with you!

    NetDVR Software

Sorry - don't know how I saw netvision in your netdvr post --- sorry again!
  15. tesc_cctvpro

    NetDVR Software

The question is this --- did you buy it direct from netvision/digivision or did it come with a dvr purchased from a 3rd party? If it was direct from netvision just visit their site and download it. If you bought it via a 3rd party vendor then you need to find out the version of the software and get the update via the vendor. Unfortunately netvision planned to suspend some third party custom software updates because the vendors where failing to control piracy.
  16. Hi, Check with your vendor if your DVR can support external esata Raid storage . Duplicate the storage to external raid devices and replace or extract the data from the external drives when full.

Hi, Where are you located ? Should you be using PAL or NTSC standard for your system?
  18. When presented with a proprietary video format that can only be decoded by a proprietary player - are you not less vulnerable to questions about video integrity? Of course I can see the value of AVI, etc in the presence of the original proprietary clip - for the sake of simplicity, but would the AVI clip not need be validated by referencing the proprietary video from it's own player in many cases.

    Sanyo HD 4mp Cameras

That's interesting - but shouldn't cameras be compared equally. I mean just because a camera can't get a better picture than another - does that mean it's worse. By the way ---- I figure that a $50 analog camera would achieve the objective of identification level surveillance at that doorway just as well. I mean the MP requirement for that space to achieve forensic detail certainly wouldn't justify deploying a 4MP HD camera - so i presume you are measuring the cameras effectiveness at some other scenario that justifies HD VSS?

    HDCCTV is the new standard

Interesting debate - but don't we just tire of "this technology is better than that?" I am interested in sincere appraisals of the value proposition for the few claimed advantages of HDcctv over HDip. (1) SMPTE Standards --- Of what value are the more than 400 standards of SMPTE, which particularly is claimed to translate to standards regulating picture fidelity and frame rates. What is the value differentiation between picture fidelity on standard HDip systems as opposed to an SMPTE compliant image from an HDcctv system? (2) Latency - It seems realistic to accept, that up the wire control to items such as PTZ controls, experience lower latency issues on an HDcctv system as opposed to an HDip system. Again what is the value proposition of the lower lag - is it significant to any degree? (3) Pathway to LAN. Is there any significant difference between a network interfaced DVR and an NVR if we wish to interface the cctv system with a LAN? Currently it is apparent that there is a huge price differential between an HDcctv DVR and NVR's, SDDVR. Do considerations vary in the presence of an existing LAN, and where no such LAN is pre-existing? What are the implications of a purely IP based system where - the VSS is overlayed onto an existing corporate LAN, or where an entirely new/parrallel LAN is established? (4) Lan Failure - LAN failure in a system subject to low or poor redundancy design, is claimed as a vulnerability against Hdip. Is the LAN not merely a medium of transmission between camera and recorder? Is there any substantiation for HDcctv being less vulnerable to a recording interrupt, when the media connected between a camera and recorder fails? How many LAN's are designed without any consideration given to redundancy? (5) Commissioned cost per video camera. When.......new install, Analog Upgrade? pre-existing LAN with sufficient capacity, Pre-existing lan with insufficient additional capacity? No pre-existing LAN ? Establishing a parrallel LAN? Is this a little bit broad? (6) Transmission Distance: Can you really only transmit a video signal 90m over LAN? (7) Local Live view immune to LAN Failure. Is it a correct assumption that total LAN failure is common, can redundant and self healing topologies address this in any way? If there is a LAN failure - does this extend to failure to view the camera live at the site. ( Comprehensive Global Interface Standard. We have been calling for this for ages, interface standards between IP products. What is the value proposition currently for a standard interface standard, when it appears that very few HDcctv products are currently being manufactured and deployed? Is the value proposition such that it overcomes the huge price differential between HDcctv recorders and SDDVR and NVR? Will ONVIF evolve at a slower rate than HDcctv products will enter the market? (9) Guaranteed 100% Plug and Play: What do we actually mean by plug an play? Are analog systems currently defined as plug and play? are IP systems incapable of evolving or being defined as Plug and Play using a similar definition? (10) High QoS costs for IP compared to HDcctv: Is it plausible that the cost of ensuring QoS on a LAN as opposed to HDcctv is higher? Is there a current deployment for a non network connected HDcctv system? If the HDcctv system has to be connected to LAN at some point --- don't we still need to address the QoS over LAN - at least for that period of time that HDcctv interfaces with LAN - wouldn't that mean adding extra costs to ensure both QoS for a HDcctv system while it's offline, and when it's online? (11) Transmission system immune to virus: Is it true that security and virus protection will cost more and is more complex when video is transmitted by devices connected to LAN's. The HDcctv in all probability must be connected to LAN at some point - so the assumption is that HDip hardware is more susceptible to a virus - is this substantive? (12) 100% Digital: Is HDcctv totally uncompressed? Is it feasible for the foreseeable future that expanded HDcctv technology, if it was to become the defacto VSS standard could it continue to be deployed without any compression? Thats about all i could think of now --- but would be interested in your responses.

    Why would you change suppliers?

Hi Guys, I mean what are the factors, that might have caused you problems in the past ? Where these problems where directly related to service levels of a dealer or supplier, to the extent that you considered switching dealers. Why would I want this information? To make my company better and share with other dealers issues deemed important by the integrators buying from them.

    Sanyo HD 4mp Cameras

Hi Guys, what are you using for storage? Playback? and apart from the specs, what is the objective requirement for the images being generated? What is the target? At what speed is the target moving? What is the activity or state of concern related to observing the target? What is the recorded or visual image used for?
  23. I can't really answer your question - as I don't quite understand it! Are you questioning whether a CIF dvr could be regarded as quality? Or whether this specific dvr is to be regarded as quality? Are only D1 Dvr's regarded as quality? or perhaps 1080p cameras only? I can't really understand the rationale behind the question so I'm at a loss to answer it ---could you expand a little?

    HDCCTV is the new standard

120/100 FPS @ 1080i comes with 4 TB HDD .. guess $1000 per HDD We are very interested in Hdcctv as a solution , and have been following it's evolution for a few years now. I have to agree though , with HDcctv recorders at $3000 for a 4 channel and $11000 for 16 channels, i think the price barrier is some way off causing the dethroning of HDip.
  25. Just as an extra --- you could get away and play even HD on a low spec pc - if you know what you are doing. If you don't you could put HD on the highest Spec PC you could lay your hands on, and never see anything better than Analog.
