I'm looking toward installing a security system of maybe 12 cameras, some inside, some outside. Following some advice on this forum, I am considering using this item;
for all cameras. I was considering using a PC running blue iris software.
What I don't know about is best communication protocol and best type of cable. I see the cameras accept tcp/ip. Would I just setup a router and run all cameras into it and then connect the router to the PC via a single ethernet line? That seems like a lot of data to a single line going into the PC. I know cameras used to run coax lines - is that better? I'm also open to running another type of platform and software also if it's more stable.

Some direction would be helpful. Thank you.
