  1. I'm afraid not - they're running XP-Pro.

What I am really after is a camera like the Axis - afaik, this has some javascript, which will either install an ActiveX control, or a Java app, depending on browser. This would mean it would be accessible to all the other browsers like Firefox, Opera etc and not just IE.

Anyone know a camera besides Axis, which can be rem otely viewed in this way ?

    Ta

    Rob

There are many choices achieving the same functions, Axis is just one of them and probably best and most expensive one. Anyway, if you're planning your business, I think you can explore what your local customers want and choose those most competitive solutions.

  2. Why go .net???

Built it in Java or X and take all the Mac and *nix market share!

I hate .Net and ActiveX if you couldn't tell. lol

    Collin,

    I do like your idea.

However, having studies those material for a while, I found manufacturers do provide API on Microsoft platforms, e.g. Axis on MS C++, VB .Net, Imagia OCX, C, etc....

I guess Java is not impossible, but much more effort required to go into every nitty-gritty about the video streaming, and control to the remote camera probably impossible without the corresponding API developed by camera manufacturers.

  3. Hi Dove,

A lot of manufacturers use .NET so you should have a look at using C# or VB. Microsoft's Visual Studio is a pretty easy way to build your own client app. Many manufacturers require using ActiveX controls. It's pretty easy to embed activeX controls using Visual Studio/.NET.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any specific links on this topic.

    Best,

    Hi John,

    Your info just good enough.

    Thanks.

  4. A friend told me their analytics work well if the camera is directly positioned overhead and the level of traffic is moderate or low (no crowds).

This seems consistent with my knowledge of the state-of-the art in this area.

What problem are you trying to solve with head counting?

    Best,

    John

    John,

No, not there a specific problem for me. But just thinking, head counting is particularly tricky, if the analytics can count really satisfactorily, this analytics is great and worth being considered.

  5. I finally got this to work.

No matter how many times I unloaded then reloaded the DVR software I would get the same errors.

The last time, I decided to load the software without having unloading it first - and it worked!

    Not a very friendly installation.

Glad to hear you got it to work. While the installation seems not user friendly, is the card itself working reliably?

  6. Hi Dove,

Enabling multicast can be tricky. For instance, your network devices (switches and or routers) must support multicasting for this functionality to work. Many switches and routers do not support this and if your current devices do not, this can be a big problem.

How many simultaneous viewers do you expect for a given camera? Is is 2 or 3 or is it more like 20 or 30. If the number of maximum simultaneous users is only 2 or 3, you should be ok just using unicast.

Also, if your remote clients are connecting to a NVR, you should consider having your NVR be multicast enabled and splitting the streams from the NVR rather than off of your cameras. This can minimize the complexity involved.

Please let me know if this makes sense or if you have any further questions.

    Best,

    John

    John,

Thanks for your sharing. I am with you. But here I feel a bit confusing that if multicast can only offer by network providers? As the router and switches actually provided by them. If they don't support, multicast video can't pass through.

    Am I correct?

  7. I have a few AIC250's and a few analog camera's currently connected to Analog to Network adapters here at home, so I can "see" everything - now I want to record based on motion.

Can someone here recommend something that's inexpensive? (less than $200) right now i'm uploading the images to my local server but it eats an insane amount of space, and it's unmanageable.... I saw the free NICEVision but it only works with AXIS cameras....

Any thoughts would be great, thanks.

Where can I download a free version of NICEVision? What's the name of it? Is that working well?

    Regards, Dove

  8. So i've established the DVR's IP Address. I'm still able to connect to it with the DVR Viewer while i am on a networked computer.

When i try to enable the DDNS server it says

"Failed to connect to the DDNS server. Please check the internet, network, or DDNS server settings."

I can view the DVR on a networked computer, so its connected to the network. And I'm currently online with the computer.

I've set up the web service port as well.

    What am i missing?

I am just wondering if you messed up things.

You said you can view on internal network, right? What are the ip address of your pc and dvr under this circumstances? can you post it out for clarity?

Then, you said webport, is there somewhere in the router calling virtual server? or you know webport just name the same thing in router?

Let's fix it step by step.

  9. Never mind (unless someone does come across one) I have managed to get it working great.

Spent a while downloading some different IP camera software packages, till I found one that worked. Netcamera works, it can view the camera, record the camera, and change settings on the camera, so looks like it could be the actual software that I needed..

Sent a email to the manu asking for a driver, but not heard anything back yet....

Wonder if I can get it to work on geo somehow....

Hi Kensplace, glad to hear you have the problem fixed. But anyway, if you want information about this camera, I can help. They're just using Imagia Chipset that is common so not strange you can find software compatible.

    You're welcome PM me.
