  1. I live in the UK and have a 5 bedroom, detached house with integral garage, a large rear garden with patio and a smaller front garden with parking area for 3 cars.

I am happy to install a system myself, but looking for guidance on positioning cameras and purchasing a good all-round brand i.e. good quality of camera, NVR and software.  My requirements are:

    - IP system, POE, probably around 4 or 5 cameras (one on each side of the house + one for the porch).

    - 8 channel NVR to allow for expansion

    - Audio camera installed in porch.  This may need to be wifi as I don't think I could easily get wires to the porch

    - Around £500, possibly higher for better quality cameras and software

    - Notifications to Android mobile

    - Cameras to give good quality images, ideally 4K, both day and night

I have a gigabyte wired network around the house with a large switch in the loft, so easy enough to connect the NVR to this to enable access through TV's or computer.

    I don't want much I know :classic_biggrin:

Any advice would be very much welcome.

  2. Hi Jim,  I also live in the UK and have started looking for a CCTV system to install at home.  It sounds like we have similar requirements:

    - IP system, POE, probably around 4 cameras to start

    - 8 channel NVR to allow for expansion

    - Around £500, possibly higher for better quality cameras and software

Like you, I expect the cameras to be installed around the roofline to provide a good range, but also to help with wiring, which can be run through the eaves.  However, I would also like to install an audio camera in the front door porch.

Did you purchase a system in the end and if so, what did you get?  Was it a self-install?

I appreciate it is around 9 months since your last post so technology will have moved on even is such a short period of time, but I need a start point and I'm phased out from reading many, many articles and looking at lots of cameras etc.
