    NEW ASSIGNMENT - ADVICE WELCOMED

I aso agree with McJannet, it sounds like a security consultant is most advised. Again, expensive, but will pay off in the long run. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

    NEW ASSIGNMENT - ADVICE WELCOMED

Run all fiber (sounds like they have the dough). Use microwave/doppler sensors so that when someone trips the perimeter, the camera snaps to the object. As for the road, use ground sensors-you can use the "stick type" or the "loop wire type". Again, set it to snap the camera to the object. I have installed a few of these, quite expensive, but most effective.

    Best $150 Color Dome

Yeah, it was strange. Video would dance, cut power to cam, goes back to normal. They are also very cheap plastic.

If it is a client you want to do more business with, stay away from Ganz. I have had terrible experiences with them. This particular camera, boards were frying and they didn't know why. We even had to have them come to the job (only a few minutes from them).

Pelco showed me 'schtuff' in their controllers that I didn't know existed. You would look pretty stupid programming (or showing the client) a product and not being able to answer questions from the client. I've also have gone to infant protection schooling, which also helped tremendously. When doing an install, the owner of your company (nor the distributor that sold it to the owner-he probably doesn't know the full capabilities of the system anyway) is not going to show the client how to use the system, the installer is. Keep going to these classes and you will get a feel of all the features that will suit a future perspective client's needs and or let you see what is new and exciting (before it makes it way to your local Isle-by then it is outdated anyway). The more classes you can get from all these companies security products, the better technician you will be. This opinion is from a lowly installer’s point of view and does not reflect the opinion of a high class dealer/distributor. Knowledge is Power.
  8. I need help in choosing an 8 channel DVR (standalone) for under $1000. Is it possible to get one with decent network software or web based log in? I already bought a piece of junk (I think it is Dentel). Software is cheesy. It is for my home and would like network functions (tcp/ip). The more bells/whistles the better. I am a CCTV/Card Access Tech, but never installed anything but Panasonics and Sanyos (major $$$). Okay to email or IM me with info. Your opinions would greatly be appreciated. Some of you guys have nice DVR's on your websites. Anything that would interest me?

Never heard of such a thing, but I guess the certs look good on paper. I know Pelco gives FREE classes w/hotel (mariott at that) to get cert pelco installer. You just pay travel. Had some card access certs freebees too. ALl good classes.

    Dilemma

I install security systems (card access, cctv, blah) for a company for over two years now, so I am an 'infant' in this field. However, I have been in the computer industry for years-so it seemed like a natural progression. I have been involved with sites that the profit was in the millions (and we are a small company) with warranties (contracts) that are 5 years. Fiber, microwave, doplers, some really cool stuff, from Correctional Facilities to Electrical Plants to deep in the woods to protect high power lines with all kinds of neat stuff. Sleeping yet? I would like to (and will) break out on my own. I am looking to install cctv systems in everyday, middle class homes. I have 2 jobs lined up now. It is going to be in big demand here (Long Island, NY and surrounding. Here is the dilemma: How am I supposed to install security systems (cctv) with the prices that dealers charge? I mean, I got quotes from dealers that are 25 bucks under what ‘street value’ is. Why would I buy from you? These people aren’t going to pay $1500, 2000, 4000, or 5000 “clamsâ€

Nice price on that 9 channel Sanyo. http://www.scdlink.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=1472 Only thing about the Sanyo is the constant "clicking" of the JavaScripting. Some clients complain about it.

    Dilemma

Did a state of the art High School. Provideo cams. Almost every camera waved out (picture wave). Some cams even blanked out-all 74 of them. They blamed everything but the cameras. It was the cams. Engineering marvel. I can only go by my experience.

This is their "Basic Warranty Statement". "It will take approximately 3 to 4 weeks to process, from the date of receipt. The repaired or replacement unit will be delivered to the customer by UPS. Please make sure the return address is deliverable by UPS. (NO PO BOX Please)" -it goes on to say- "There are no advanced replacements on products and defective items will be returned via UPS Ground. There are no exceptions". This says alot about the caliper of the company.
