    Geovision Reports from Taipei

I'm in Taipei right now covering Computex for Techware Labs and I stopped by the Geovision booth to see what they are up to. At the booth I spoke with the marketing director and the head developer of the Geovision system. On display were the new PCI Express versions of the GV cards, as well as a few under development products. Coming shortly are some three-in-one cards that claim to combine the features of GV capture cards, GV-DSP, and GV-A16, into one enhanced card at a lower price point. The hybrid DVR card and the DVR keyboard were on display, but we've already heard about that. Another new product is the GV-WT, which is an access control integration box. This will allow one to integrate a GV system with weigand format card readers and access control devices. The patch data can be then overlayed onto the video, similar to the POS integration system. The new GUI was not on display but the marketing director did say that it is being worked on and that it should be released within the next week or so. Another quite interesting statement made by the technical manager is that GV will support H 264 in Q3. He said they will be releasing a software update for the cards that will add the H 264 compression codec to be used. This will greatly decrease the amount of space that will be used by the video log. I'm going to be wandering around Computex for the next couple days and I'm sure I'll be back around the GV booth so if anyone has any specific questions just post them here and I will get a direct answer.

    Donglin Along...

I'd have to disagree that a dongle make a software package look "cheap." In fact, most of the really expensive niche software packages like this use dongles to prevent piracy. Using a dongle is just about the best way to assure that your software is not being use illegally. Granted you can get around a dongle authentication key, but it does take a lot of work and most people aren't willing to put that much time and money into cracking them.
  3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using each F-connectors and BNC connectors? Don't just say "those suck" or stuff like that, be descriptive please. Also, could someone post a good BNC crimping guide? Thanks!
  4. Where is the best place to buy RG59 95% with power?

    RG6 vs RG59

That site doesn't really show any advantages of RG59. Let's say we are comparing 95% copper RG6 with 95% copper RG59. Whats the difference then?
  6. What are the new compression type connectors you are referring to here?
  7. Hello All! I just setup a new Geovision system and I seem to have a weird problem with horizontal lines scrolling down the video. These aren't the normal horizontal lines that you see with motion if you have de-interlace turned off. The lines look like something you'd see from a really old CRT monitor on its last leg. I thought at first it might be cause by dirty power to the camera power supply, but I have since plugged it into an APC UPS and I still see the lines. Any ideas?

    Accudome Cameras

What does everyone think of Accudome cameras? Let me know your thoughts and experiences. If you don't know what these are, you can see a few of them on this site -> http://www.worldeyecam.com/dome_cameras.htm

What are some good bullet cams?

    Accudome Cameras

What makes 24 volt cams better?
  11. When terminating using F-conn is there anything to watch for before crimping?
  12. Yes, all of the cameras have the same scrolling lines.
  13. What can I do to fix this problem without going back and redoing all of the ends?
  14. What kind of problems do you see with F connectors? I've always used them before without troubles. For reference, post the link that shows how to install the twist on and also a good place to get them for cheap. Thanks
  15. I have the cables terminated with F-connectors and I am using a F -> BNC adapter to connect to the cameras. All of the cameras are powered via one power distribution box, which is connected to the same outlet that is powering the PC and monitor. I can mention that when I tested the system at my office with a single cam and cam power supply I did not see these lines, so I don't think its anything in the card or the system.
  16. Alright, here's a link that should work -> http://www.techwarepc.com/devel/File20050521082854.Avi By the way, I'm using RG6 Siamese with the 2 18 gauge power cables included.
  17. You can see a sample of the lines here -> http://www.techwarelabs.com/community/viewtopic.php?p=61393#61393 Any ideas?
  18. Why would the video card cause problems just for the incoming video feeds and not the rest of the screen? I believe the video card in the system is a Nvida 128 MB Fx5600.
  19. Well i'm using RG6 Siamese cable, which has worked well for me in the past. What could be causing the interference? It pretty much does it on all of the cameras in this installation so I don't think its the cable termination. The wires aren't routed by any flouresent lights either.
  20. G22: The whole screen doesn't do it, just the separate video feeds. I'm using and LCD anyways. scottj: I'm using 1/4" CCD dome cameras and one smaller pinhole camera.
