    PTZ / Zoomed in shots?

Although I love PTZs, if the cameras don't need to move as they are viewing the entrances, wouldn't a box camera with a high power zoom lense work better? (I honestly don't know).

Used a slingshot for setting up Amature radio antennas.

    best way to run cable

Duct tape some strong sting to a light ball, or softball. Toss. You can throw above ducts, pipes, etc, and it will roll. Everyone finds the method that works best for them.

    geovision ptz control- keyboard?

Thanks Andy. Exactly what I wanted to know.
  5. I got my Gv-800 (4) from Palmvid. Been happy with it. I have 2 cameras in my apartment (one on the main entrance, other watching where financial documents and firearms are kept (that way I have proof of WHO took them should it occur)). My other 2 cameras cover the parking lot (one zoomed in on the entrance to get a license plate (very important) and the other is a wide shot of where I generally park.) I got all my cameras off ebay stores. If I had to buy again, I'd have spent the extra money and gone with better cameras. But it works for my taste, for the moment. Upgrading as I got extra funds. There are a lot of people here who have vast experience with different cameras. A few things to mention to help get a better informed response: distance from mount to target range, and existing lighting. Also do you want a general viewing image, or a high resolution (prosecutable) image?

    Connectors

I've also had crimps pull off. I use twist-ons when I can, just a personal pref. After finished screwing, give it a tug, and retighten... it'll hold. If you tug and it slips; you best leave more outer and try again.

    Custom peephole camera

Is there a way to mount a camera to an existing peephole to effectively make a peephole camera? The peephole on my apartment door has hanging metal assembly on the outer part, and I don't see a good way to swap the existing normal peephole with a camera one. Would a board or chip camera work? If so, with what lense? Thanks.

    Custom peephole camera

Yea I've looked at those, but on the outside of the door part, on the fisheye lense side, there is a metal welcome sign hanging off of the peephole assembly. I've been trying to unscrew it and see how it is attached, to see if an actual peephole cam would fit with it. But so far no luck. It's only probably 30+ years old. If I can find a way to get it off, anyone know what brands are the best?

ALL BRITISH POSTERS PLEASE REPORT IN!

We secured the oil fields quickly this time because in '91 Saddam set a grip of them on fire, causing massive ecological damage. The fires were put out by a large effort that took a lot of time. And the smoke hampered military movements. If you note, Bush did not setup a pipeline to his own fleet of tankers in the Gulf. We secured the wells, and mvoed on with the next military objective. Iraqis have full control of their oil exports.

    rs422-rs485

Can someone explain the differences to me about the RS422 and RS485 protocols? I know RS-485 is 2 wire, and RS-422 is 4 wire (2rx, 2tx). But I need a more solid understanding in simple terms. From what I found online RS-422 is an old school RS-485 in regards to repeating the signal down the line to the next camera via the tx wires. But also online I saw some stuff about 2 wire RS-422... I guess my main question is if I have a RS-422 controller am I limited to RS-422 only cameras, or are there adapters or a way to wire in a RS-485 camera? Thanks

    What would you want?

As an average consumer (someone getting into the field/looking at a serious/effective setup verses a wal-mart special) I like all information (lux, res, power, etc), price, and maybe an overview of what is needed to complete the setup: cameras, cable types, power supplies, DVR/computer PCI card, etc. Have pictures of the store, maybe a live camera, and address listed. That way we the consumer will know it is legit.

    American Dynamics Equipment

When I worked for Target (security) all we had was American Dynamics. The Speeddome Ultra VII is an awsome PTZ, but our outdoor PTZs must have been the same as our indoor, cause night images were very grainy and dark. I'd always need to open the iris big time to see anything. Overall, I like the brand.
  15. I got a Geo 800-4 in a 1.8Ghz with 384mb RAM. Just put it in the old computer and built a new gaming computer. Didn't reformat the old one when I installed Geo But still haven't had any problems with it running 24/7. It wasn't hard to install or anything. If you've done any computer upgrading, it's just like any other PCI device you install. My ONLY problem was the audio connector on the board was in a different location than the instruction manual said. Has a lot of features I don't need now, but I do like the ability to mask out areas for motion, so the cat doesn't set it off all the time, I block the floors. I got really cheap cameras, but they work for what I need.

    Communism is breathing strong ..

Sounds like you need you a coup. Or a little help from the 101st Airborne, 75th Rangers, 2nd Marine Division, a Carrier Task Force, and some good old Special Forces (to get those sneaky drug dealers on the run).

    Funny story

Thats why I have my parking lot cameras hidden behind a bunch of plants in the window, and my inside apartment cameras... well are in my space

    PC Based DVR acting wierd

I've had that happen a lot when I worked at Target. About once an hour (playback of recorded video) a frame from a different camera flashes in from nowhere. Never understood why, and at how little it happened, I never bothered to look into it.
  20. But what if you had cell towers on a bunch of small, cheap, old ships sitting 3mi off the coast in International Waters? Or is the IW 12mi? I thought it was 3. And I assume cell technology has improved distance between towers since I was told about 10 years ago that it had a cell phone to tower range of only 3mi.

    Speedome 2000 RA186XV - For $160.00

I dunno, but here is the link to it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5781179068&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 Looks like a real Sensormatic dome, and big and old. Just wish I knew the specs. Says its color, but no zoom or resolution data, and I can't find anything online.

    Speedome 2000 RA186XV - For $160.00

I just saw one on that *one* site that was going for about $20-50 (pending final bidding), and was wondering if it was worth it. Not something I really need right now, but if the price is right and it works, you know its hard to pass the offers.

    Need diginet v4.13

I looked at the cheap PCI-DVRs on that one site we all know. Then I realized they wouldn't do what I needed, and I'd be better off spending some long saved "extra" money on a more expensive system. And I only make $10/hr, part time. Certainly not well off at all, scraping the barrel all the time. Sometimes going cheaper is the best route, but in CCTV I don't think it is. From Minnesota and trips around the country, I got the "eh" combined with the "ya'll". Best of both worlds
  25. I know Target uses American Dynamics/Sensormatic SpeedDomes. I can't recall a time inwhich we've (my stores) have had a major problem with them. Only problems with them are: you must line the I/O board up right on installing/moving; we mis-addressed a dome and it took us a week to figure it out. Quick question: is Sensornet the same as RS-485?
