  1. update:

If I reboot the NVR the video will be smooth again for a little bit but will eventually get jerky (like missing frames) on matrix with more than 4 cams on at a time. I thought I saw a thread somewhere about this having to do with something regarding the way hikvision was setting up the stream but I can't find the thread again. I will have to see if the Dahua cameras are better. Anyone running a similar NVR with hikvision cameras and using the video output from the Dahua NVR?

  2. Does anyone have an opinion about Dahua or this NVr4416? If I buy a Dahua on eBay or cctv-mall.com, where would I get software updates from?

I'm looking to purchase and install my first home security and am so confused!

Dahua makes you get software updates from your dealer. I bought my NVR4216 on ebay. I contacted the sellers and found one who had links to firmware. I bought from them. The one I received already had the latest firmware on it.

  3. I have a Dahua NVR4216 and I am noticing that the video gets choppy when watching the cameras when more than 4 cameras are displayed at once. This is through the HDMI port on the NVR. When I switch from 4 matrix to 9 matrix the video starts smoothly for all cameras but then degrades. I am using DS-2CD2032-I cameras plus some IP PTZ. I have played with the substream settings on the hikvision cameras but it doesn't seem to help. I think the issue is with the substream as when I test through the browser I have the option to open main or substream. Main is clean and smooth and substream is jerky like on the NVR. I have played with many different configurations for the substreams but it doesn't seem to help. Has anyone see this behaviour with the hikvision and the substreams?

  4. I added a PTZ camera to my 960h system today. I noticed that on the bottom of the picture (about 3%) that it is distorted. Almost like the effect you see on the sides of sd content when they try and make it look HD. It is a horizontal bar probably about 3% of the screen at the very bottom. http://www.ebay.com/itm/301234016511 . I tried different cables and connecting it directly to a TV. The distortion is there on them all. I don't think I can adjust overscan on the camera. I noticed my other cameras are good at the bottom. Here are a couple of pics. Any suggestions?

  5.

I am installing a Lorex LHD818 eight channel system from Costco. I chose this system because I am on a tight budget, liked the HD resolution, and like Costco's service. This is my first CCTV installation, though I am a home DIY person. Any help, advice, or insight is appreciated.

I am thinking of upgrading my 960h system to this (Lorex LHD818). Do the cat 5 baluns work? That is how I have run all of my existing cameras. Also I am curious if 960H cameras will work with this. Unfortunately I just ordered a new 960h PTZ dome before seeing this. I could have bought the 720p version of the dome. The one I bought is claimed as 1200tvl though... http://www.ebay.com/itm/301234016511

  6. I have an 8 channel h.264 I bought off ebay like this one below

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HD-Full-D1-Full-960H-8CH-H-264-Real-Time-Standalone-CCTV-Security-Network-DVR-/121037787507?pt=US_DVRs_Hard_Drive_Recorders&hash=item1c2e6a1173

It has a plugin for internet explorer for remote viewing. It works but uses a lot of CPU. I am wondering if there is any generic software that will work with these DVR's? I downloaded a few and tried them but I had no success connecting. I'd prefer a client over a web based solution.

If anyone is familiar with this DVR and knows of a dedicated client that works or one I could try I'd appreciate any info.

    thanks,

    Brendin

  7. Turns out the Wave-p Ether 9808 is falsely advertised as being able to record 640x480 as confirmed by the manufacturer yesterday. This was the only reason I bought this card.

Anyhow I am in the market for an affordable D1(640x480) Rec, 8ch, 240FPS DVR Card. My budget is up to $300 for the card. Anyone have any suggestions. I prefer to get one that someone confirms supports D1 recording.

    thanks,

    Brendin

  8. Does this card actually support 640x480? ie: does it support D1 or just CIF? No matter what I set it to it only records 320x240. The manufactures website says that it does (wave-p site). From what I can see in the INI files in the DVR directory it only goes up to 320x240. I read another thread here and someone claiming to be from the manufacturer was saying the the 4 channel version of this card is only CIF and that D1 would be coming (post from Oct 2007).

What is this manufacturer basing the 640x480 recording resolution on if it is only a CIF card. I am hoping someone can prove me wrong on this.

    thanks,

    Brendin

  9. I received the ether 9808 card and tried to install it in my Asus p5K deluxe intel core 2 duo motherboard. The mother board has a red light on each PCI slot if it detects a problem with the inserted card. I tried the card in all 3 pci slots and the red light for each came on respectively. I tried booting anyway but XP did not find any new hardware. I tried installing the software but it said no card detected and exited.

I moved the card to another newer PC (Asus Rampage motherboard) with intel core 2 duo. I booted into XP and it found PCI to PCI bridge but no devices listed in device manager. I should see some unknown devices. I tried installing the software but it said no card detected and exited.

Do these cards have problems running in newer PC's or did I just get a defective one?

    Any ideas appreciated.

    thanks,

    Brendin
