I would consider satalite a 'wireless' transfer medium. That said... seeing as you are in India, how do you think your post made it to a server in the US? Wireless Satalite. I don't think fiber will go away, anymore than copper will. But advances in wireless may shock us all in the coming years. Consumer demand in household networks will drive technology to advance and prices to decrease. Once the technology is available we will be installing completely wireless camera systems in homes and businesses. Home automation will be a 1 day install with wireless controls for lighting and appliances. It's not if, it's when. Wireless is the way of the future.

Greetings to all, My name is Robert. I love technology and business. My past focus has been on computer networks for small business and home offices. Lately, I've been requested to do CCTV projects by clients and referals. I've found that in a few days work I can make several thousand dollars vs the several hundred I make doing computer networks. I totally agree about the motion lights. "Those in Darkness hate the light", true both spiritually and in security situations. Also, I invite you to consider your goal with your system. Are you going to be turning evidence over to police to contribute to prosecutions? Do you want Grandma subjected to court supena's and being forced to show up in court to testify? My number one rule of thumb in security: DETER. "lock won't stop a thief, but it will keep an honest man honest" You may be able to meet your goals and save alot of money with some bright lights and fake cams. ... But if you are looking for the cheapy system that will record time lapse at night, and if you have some technical ability, I would point you towards a PC based DVR system. You can get cards cheep enough if you shop around a bit. my 2¢

I like your PTZ idea. That actually sounds like fun, and I might just try that on my house someday. Of note, be mindful of any privacy issues with neighbors. If you are panning their yard/house (or they think you are) they may cause some trouble. You might get a reputation as the neighborhood peep I recommend getting familiar with the legal issues which may apply in your region.

Personally, I think PTZ is overage for a home system as most anything you get on camera will most likely be found through your recordings. Who has time to sit there and pan/tilt/zoom your camera's around? If you've got the extra money and love to play with your cams go for it. But you will most likely find that you never use it outside of adjusting your camera's (which you can do much cheaper with a ladder). my 2¢. Good luck with your system. -Rob
