Toll Booth Surveillance

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

We have a project that involves a toll management company and they wish to monitor the toll booths that is spread out over a 60km highway.

They do not have any internet connectivity at the booths and the only option would to go wireless which a LAN network to its highway office that is also along the 60km.

Any one here have any recommendations on the type of wireless set up and products to be used?

Regards

I wouldn't think standard wireless would be sufficiently reliable for this. It's not clear, do the booths already have LAN connectivity to the central office? If not, do they have phones? Would DSL be an option in that case?

You are going to have to be much more specific about the country (frequency allocations), quantity of sites, spacing, line of sight capability, and bandwidth requirements necessary before anyone will be able to give you really useful information on the subject.

You are going to need all of that information in any case, whether trying it yourself or asking for quotes from a 3rd party vendor.

You may want to consider recruiting the services of a wireless internet provider in your area, they often know better than anyone what will work for you in your area, because they have to to make their systems work.

You may want to coordinate with them in any case to avoid interference if you are going to use an unlicensed frequency.

correct me if im wrong

you need to identified the following informaiton:

1) how many camera to be install?

2) you require to do calculation on the size transfer rate as how many fps each camera you require and how much is each frame size.

3) how are you going to supply power to the camera? by solar?

4) is there any fiber optic facilities or telephone facility along the highway.

solution

1) IP wireless 2.4Ghz based or more

2) Long range Radiowave transmitter and Receiver.

3) due to the distance are 60km, you are require to do a calculation on how many repeater you need to install in order for you to achieve the target distance.

4) bandwidth management at server site to assure all bandwidth smooth.

5) Power source: Solar based for camera and repeater.

of course for highway project will involve high cost setup. my personal advice GPRS doesnt work the wireless cctv and produce a very bad effect.
