DVR Advice - Which match my requirements best 4 the $$$?

Recommended Posts

Hello CCTV Forum -

First I want to say that I've been a lurker on this forum for almost 1.5 years and have found the information and discussion here very useful.

In January 2009, my home was broken into. Shortly thereafter, I implemented Operation Prudent Thunder (O.P.T.) a multi part security plan that included among other things, a residential CCTV security camera system. I purchased and installed a used Clover CDR4170 along with 4 fairly nice analog cameras and cabling. I've been hooked ever since. I feel so much better being able to check my camera's when I hear some activity on the street or alley and I love being able to check what's going on at my house from work. For the money, the system has performed flawlessly.

That being said, there are some major limitations to the CDR4170. It's time to expand and upgrade.

For my career, I work in Information Technology - IT Security to be more specific. Normally I am able to research technology I wish to buy and after some time, am able to make an informed decision that I'm comfortable with. In regards to Security DVR Systems though, I'm not getting a clear picture on it. There are so many manufacturers, foreign terms and accronyms, major brands vs off brands, and huge price differentials, that I'm left feeling less than confident.

I created a list (see below) of ideal options from what I have gathered over the last few months regarding different DVR's I've spec'ed on the internet.

Can anyone out there vouch for a DVR that is around $1000K and meets these or most of these requirements? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks - brotherj74

8 Channel

Highest Analog recording possible

H.264

At least 1 audio in and 1 audio out.

1 RCA out for live viewing to TV Monitor (or ability to convert vga to RCA - I already have RCA ran through my wall)

At least 1 video loop out on a single channel

IE port 80 or 443 remote view

3G Smart phone remote camera view capabilities (I have an original BB Storm but may go Droid in future)

At least 2 concurrent user logins.

Ability to set user roles/rights/camera views (like allowing a neighbor live view access to cams)

Record/Live view/playback (is this called Triplex?)

At least 1 PTZ control

Decent motion detection configuration for event triggering/listing. (I would like to be able to review per camera a motion triggered event, but still record on all cameras 24/7)

Ability to set email alert notifications based on motion triggered events

Good to excellent dependability
