Pelco DD5BC Trouble Configuring...help!

Recommended Posts

I have a Pelco SpectraII 3.31 PTZ cam.

I can get through the "Power Up" and "Done" messages when powering up the camera but during the "Configuring" mode it will not do it's "maiden spin" after the zooming in part.

The camera head wheel does not "lock in" or get "stiff".

Same thing with the camera head - it remains "loose".

The board is a: PA03-9620-53A0.

A Spectra 53A0 IC53-0060-0331 PLCC chip is occupying socket location U5.

Any help on this "Configuration" problem during boot-up will be greatly appreciated!

I'm especially interested in what possible board components that perhaps went out of specs would cause this?

I've taken good care of this PTZ and it has been in an inside environment with a well maintained cooling fan.

I'm hands-on and experienced with board level bench repairs but do not have enough money to buy a oscilloscope...

p.s.

Is there a way I can attach a good high-resolution photo of the board to this post for you guys to see?

Thank you very much survtech!

I've looked around there before...thanks.

They DO have a lot of parts.

Oh well, guess I better shop around for another cam.

I was hoping it was just a blown cap or bad diode perhaps outta specs.

I was hoping you'd might know how to trouble shoot the board.

Maybe I'll try replacing the caps first>>>

Although we do repair ours in-house (Spectra II, III and IV), we don't bother going down to component level. It's not worth the effort and requires surface mount soldering/desoldering equipment. Also, Pelco won't release service manuals.

We buy the entire module from TLS and return the old ones for a small credit. That includes camera heads.

First of all, thank you very much for your reply!

From what you're saying - it would be good for me to ask TLS if I could get a copy of the Pelco board schematics. Awesome!

I will place them a call in the morning!

Sounds like they give people a "small credit" for used boards, repair them like I want to, then they turn around and sell it as a "B" quality board for $250 bucks. Hmm...

Not exactly what I was looking to try to do but thanks Survtech!

By the way, Awesome website!!!

I don't know if they can or will provide you with schematics but they have helped save us a ton of money.

Many casinos buy new PTZs when the old ones fail. The average price of a new DD4CBW35 at nearly $2,000. We get them fixed for far less:

We used to return our broken PTZs to Pelco. The average repair was maybe $700. Then we started using Moore's Electronics. The average repair dropped to something like $500. Now we repair them in-house. The average repair has dropped to under $300.

With over 150 PTZs, replacement or factory repair costs add up fast. Many of our Spectra IIs have been in service for up to 10 years - an eternity for PTZs getting nearly constant use..
