Video Editing and Other Questions

Recommended Posts

What software, hopefully free(!), would you recommend for video editing?

What video format (e.g., wmv) provides the best picture for later identification of cars and people. BTW, our cameras (GVI GV-NC-201VAH) are streaming mjpeg and mpeg4 with minimal compression.

Thanks!

Well, Windows Movie Maker is free and included with XP SP2 or downloadable from Windows Live for Win7 (dunno about Vistsuck).

The big problem you're likely to run into is, most DVRs export in proprietary or semi-proprietary formats that can't be directly imported into most editing software.

Would it be possible with a WebDVR software? I made a backup with the program and it spit out an executable file. Is there anyway to get straight video or extract the video from that file?

Thanks.

We've solved our problem by enabling motion detection. The software creates a file for each time it senses motion. So, if motion detection is triggered six time, six separate files are created.

Thanks!
