Hi ,

Installing surveillance on my residential property in Sydney AU.

After reading this forum I purchased a GV-600 BNC 4-port PCI card from a reputable PC shop for $125.

Installed the GV software on a PC {ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS, intel E8400 @ 3.0 GHz, 4GB DDR3, Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT, Win7 Ultimate 64-bit, dual monitors} now downgraded PC to ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS, intel Pentium 4 631 @ 3.0 GHz, 4GB DDR2, Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT, XP SP3.

I bought a 1/3" SONY CCTV CCD 24 LED 420TVL IR Dome Camera FI-S300CFI-S300C 6mm lens from Dino Direct for $33.59 including shipping (had to have something to test).

I used RG59/Power 16G cable with crimped BNC and soldered power plugs.

SO... it all works! but...

I want to eventually achieve a system that can identify persistent intruders into the yard.

I couldn't have gotten this far without your forum contributions - Thank You to all.

Cheers,

Steve

The GeoVision is very good, stable and with great features.

The $35 Dino Direct 1/3" Sony CCD picture is ok during the day

useless at night.

Got hold of an old Kobi 1/3" B/W Varifocal CCD camera, model no: K-38MV-1ES CCIR, big difference but still noisy with IR, ok with a light on.

The cameras aren't good enough at night and the IR LED's glow red. Looking for other cameras and different IR lighting. Also PC shutdown at 3:10 am one morning, according to GeoVision log.

The PC shutdown was Windows 7 updater. (Start>Control>Windows Update>Change Settings>Important Updates) was set to 'Install updates automatically (recommended)' 'Every day' at '3:00 AM'. So, updates were downloaded in the background during internet use and then at 3:00AM they were installed automatically and needed a reboot. W7 got stuck at the 'Welcome Screen' and couldn't restart GeoVision.

Downgraded PC and changed operating system to XP SP3
