Test of color IR varifocal bullet

Recommended Posts

no name for camera in this test

just thought this was kind of interesting so figured I would share the results.

purpose of this post is just to show with some modifications, even the cheapest IR camera might catch a license plate. If this type of camera had some settings then we could actually get it to work, unfortunately it just has focus and thats it.

varifocal Color IR with 4-8mm lens.

Focus adjustments external, on rear - note, no way to lock the focus in so knock camera and comes out of focus. Infrared nowhere near the distance of the True Day Night IR Bullets, also washed out colors in the daytime, but this camera is half the price.

Zoomed in a little ...

Obviously no smart IR ...

Now the lens is zoomed in to the max, 8mm.

With lights off, hand over top section of Infrared LEDs

when you say a camera is Color IR do you mean it doesn't have an IR filter on it period?

Yep,

In reference to Day Night Infrared cameras:

Color IR camera = No IR cut filter

TDN or True Day Night = Mechanically Removable IR Cut Filter

In reference to non Infrared Day Night cameras:

Digital Day Night = No IR cut filter

TDN or True Day Night = Mechanically Removable IR Cut Filter

Most color only cameras have a fixed Infrared Cut filter that typically cannot be removed.
