AV760 DVR - Cannot access disk after plugging it in Windows

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

as others, I unfortunately had the great idea to plug my dvr hdd to my pc to get the videos!

As you probably know Windows 7 asked me if I wanted to initialise the disk. I immediately knew something was wrong

and shutdown and plugged the hdd back to the dvr. But the damage was done! The dvr starts by showing a "System Init..." message

and after a "Audio OK" message I am presented with an additional "Warning" message and then the DVR stops right there.

Is there anything I can do??? I tried to find a hex value on the disk at offset 0x1b8, as I have read in another post, but the value was already 00.

What can I do to get the videos back? There is very important footage there of an employee of mine (well former employee!) stealing from me and I really need to get them back.

If anyone can help me, no matter how hard the solution, I would be grateful.

Thank you

To reply my own question in case it helps others...

It seems that the problem was not with disk, luckily Windows did nothing to the disk.

The part that was failing was the dvr's firmware.

I did a hardware reset as instructed in http://scorpiontheater.com/Documents/Hardware_Reset_AVC760_761_CPD560.pdf

and everything WORKED!

The dvr booted and all my footage is there!

Hopefully this post will help others, too.
