security camera recording

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I have a ptz camera in my business premises. The views 3 areas. The entrance, diesel tanks area and and the general yard area. I set the camera presets to look at these areas and apply a cruise path.

I have it recording for 10 hours every day. However it uses 10gb of space in my harddrive.

Is there a way of compressing this file to a smaller file size?? Is 1gb/per hour seem to be alot??

I am new to this so any help would be apreciated.

Thanks a million guys

Compression will not help you very much & you have now discovered one of the main drawbacks of PTZ cameras on tour. When your camera is moving from pre-set to pre-set EVERY pixel in the picture is changing constantly @ 30 fps & this is the cause of your large HDD usage. Normally only a small portion of your picture changes at any given time & it is only this info that is recorded. ( a simplistic explaination ) If you could get it to blank out the video signal between pre-sets you could save heaps of space. I don't know if any ptz cameras have that function or why not.
