mcs 0 Posted January 1, 2008 I have a gv1480, running core2 duo- has 3 x 500gb hdd's, when I set this up it was getting nearly 1 month backup, It had to be formatted as a staff member was "playing", I stuck a 10gb hdd in as C: just so I could quicly load an image if it was "played"with, but I also turned on KEYLOCK.. Now we get 8 days, I have checked and rechecked, but dont know why its gone down so low for backup time? all drives are enabled, cept 20gb part on one drive for "Backups", I like to keep a copy of most events in case the burn didnt work, but also for fun anyone got any super ideas wot this could be? cheers Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
501 0 Posted January 2, 2008 Are you definitley using the same compression and motion settings? I find the Geo H.264 gives a LOT of recording time, so perhaps this is different. Other then that, it should be about the same. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rory 0 Posted January 2, 2008 Are you sure its the same compression, as already mentioned, and also 720x480 will be much larger files than 640x480 so make sure you are using the same Video Resolution. I would check the hard drives are still being used though. Just incase, remove them from the list of storage devices, reformat each one (if you are allowed), repair the DB, reboot, add them back in to the storage list, repair the DB, then try again. mcs 0 Posted January 3, 2008 well this has 12 cams busy service stn has 2 cams on Driveway for evidence people go in and pay or not All cams are Samsung 730's and even some 310's Its on qty of 5 sens of 9 on each cam, for max effectiveness There is no point having cameras and then d/ging the quality on the dvr in my mind Id prefer to have 8 days of max res, max qlty then 60 days of small screens you cant read or identify anything off, And it is because the compression is in a totally dif screen, heres a note to geo to include on main config page ... cheers Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

rory 0 Posted January 3, 2008 yeah gas stations do eat up hard drive space .. 24 hours a day .. I have one here with 16 cameras, they get approx 9 days with a GV800 and 600GB of hard drive space on Geo Mpeg4 .. they are basically busy 24-7 though some cameras are dead at night such as out back and in the fridge areas. But i wont use H.264 even if I was paid to .. only for the webcam .. Hard Drives are so cheap these days. .. . Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
501 0 Posted January 3, 2008 Hey Rory, do you really find the difference in video quality is that big? Personally, I've used it a lot and haven't really noticed any difference. I've taken jpg's from both codecs to compare and there wasn't a major noticeable difference, especially when you consider you get 2 to 3 times the recording time. HDD Space is soooo cheap now, they need to do an about turn and go higher quality and less compression and stop worrying about the HDD space it takes ..
