    AVTECH 760 EMAIL MOTION ALERT

I'm not familiar with this device, but perhaps you could use a different POP/SMTP e-mail provider (email at somewherelse.com), and have it send e-mails to your comcast address?

    License Plate Setup

Thanks for your replies everyone. I'm hesitant to try a cheap camera, especially if I do it at a long range, just because I know it probably won't work well. I checked out Rory's post, he's pretty much sold me on that camera. Maybe I'll see if I can get his input on my situation. Unfortunately, the pictures weren't showing in his posts... is that because they were hosted somewhere else?

    License Plate Setup

At work we need to setup a license plate camera to record cars entering our parking lot. The problem is the entrance to our lot is at least 65 feet from the closest tip of our building where we would mount it, and it's not at the best angle. I've attached an image with an aerial view of our parking lot. I love the idea of a speedbump cam. Unfortunately, I don't think a speedbump would really work well in our lot, and we also have a lot of trucks traveling through our lot to get to our shipping dock. We do have a small island near the entrance to our parking lot, with a large structure with a sign on it. Unfortunately, it would be difficult to mount a camera here at a usable height and not have it be a target for vandalism. We also considered putting in an automatic security gate, as we also have a good deal of temporary employees that park in this lot without permission. We'd probably be able to mount the camera on that gate. However, we get a lot of deliveries to our shipping dock and it wouldn't be possible for them to enter. Anybody have any ideas? Would the REG-L1 be able to capture license plate images reliably from a distance, especially at night?
  5. Probably not the solution you're looking for, but you could always install software on the computers themselves... like Spector CNE
  6. So, I deal with several Dedicated Micros DS2s at work. They work great and I love them. For work I also recently needed to come up with a several camera solutions on the cheap, so I put together a geovision system. I'm honestly quite underwhelmed by it. I really don't like the interface. The event playback limitation, where you can only view 5 minute sections, is quite frustrating (you can't go back and watch a 24-hour span without clicking next event for every 5 minutes of footage). I also don't like that the event viewer is a separate module, and not integrated into the main interface. Perhaps I'm just a bit spoiled after using the dedicated micro though. Perhaps I'm just having trouble getting used to a different system then I've used in the past. At another one of our locations, we also have a leased PC DVR solution from our security company that I don't really care for either, although, I can't remember the name right now. However, I seem to see gas stations and restaurants with what seem to be (without using them) pretty nice looking PC based dvr solutions. So, I know opinoins vary a lot out there, but is it just me that doesn't like PC based DVRs, especially the geovision? I see so many people talking about installing geovisons professionally on here, I'm just wondering if I'm missing something. I'm also not saying that all dedicated DVRs are great, I have run into some really poorly working cheap ones. But are there any PC based solutions that are on par with DMs?
