For the same price of a quality PTZ, you can purchase one or a few very high resolution fixed cameras. This way, you can record a larger scene, and if needed, go back and use digital PTZ on the recorded video for analysis later. In the coming decade we can anticipate some very sophisticated auto PTZ cameras. In the mean time, unless the PTZ is manned, you are probably better off with higher resolution fixed cameras. Avigilon Software
cglaeser replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I don't have my notes in front of me, but as I recall in a phone conversation with Exacq technical support prior to the 4.4 release, they were not planning to implement all of ONVIF. That issue aside and more important, I don't think I can add an Avigilon camera to my existing Exacq NVR and record MJPEG on camera motion at this time. Several of my cameras support H.264 and the bandwidth reduction is very compelling and H.264 certainly has it's uses, but I use MJPEG nonetheless, even for HD resolution. I'd rather limit the IPS in exchange for increased detail. Please keep us informed regarding your impressions of IQEye. Those cameras are supported by Exacq. Best, Christopher -
Avigilon Software

You're right, and as I recall, cheaper than previous generation. You should post the MSRP here. Best, Christopher -
Avigilon Software
cglaeser replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
- How would you compare the image quality to IQEye? - Did they demonstrate low-light performance? - Any chance the Avigilon cameras will be added to the Exacq compatibility list anytime soon? I know both companies have recently released partially compliant ONVIF products, but I think Avigilon only supports H.264 in ONVIF mode, which means the forensic detail of MJPEG is not currently available with Exacq. I prefer AA batteries. The LD40 looks like an excellent choice in the 200+ lumen category. I especially like the fact that it starts in the last power setting. My Redline always starts on high, regardless of last power setting when turned off. Thanks for posting the link. Best, Christopher

Another installation challenge - holiday lights

All my outdoor lights are now LED which saves on the electric bill, but the security cameras think the 60Hz LED flicker is motion. Best, Christopher -

I installed the Avigilon software so I could review their sample video, and it seemed very responsive. Best, Christopher -
My Problems with QSee QR-414 DVR Package
cglaeser replied to Liber8or's topic in Digital Video Recorders
The difference between using a web browser and a client app can be even more compelling on a smart phone. The problem is many consumers want everything for free. Exacq mobile is excellent, whereas using a smart phone web browser to view an Exacq server is pretty much just a novelty. At $49, I consider Exacq mobile to be a reasonable deal, but some consumers squeal like a stuck pig. Best, Christopher -

I guessed that might be the case. One of the features I prefer in a DVR/NVR is ability to use a web browser without any plug-ins, which increases the odds you can use any web browser, including a web browser in a hotel lobby or a smart phone. Best, Christopher

Did you have to install an ActiveX plug-in to use IE? Best, Christopher

My Problems with QSee QR-414 DVR Package

Or more accurately, you don't know a single master code. Even if the developers did not intentionally design a single master code, security holes are discovered in various products all the time. Best, Christopher -
Can you post some comparison photos? Best, Christopher

I installed a wireless alarm system for various sensors outside my house including a wireless magnetic switch on my mailbox. The system chimes whenever a device is faulted and a voice message tells me which sensor. I also have a camera aimed at the mailbox and I can check any or all cameras instantly on my iPhone. My next project is to send an automated text message whenever the mailbox is opened. Best, Christopher

IR blur on Axis P1344?
cglaeser replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'm guessing one is IR corrected and the other is not. Best, Christopher Edit: I was just reading the specs on an IQEye 755. There are several lens options, including wide varifocal, telephoto varifocal, and wide varifocal IR corrected. -
IR blur on Axis P1344?

Do the 3344 and 1344 use different lenses? Best, Christopher -
IR blur on Axis P1344?
cglaeser replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
No, not unless the lens is IR corrected. In a cheap lens, even red, green, and blue within the visible spectrum will focus differently. Best, Christopher -
IR blur on Axis P1344?
cglaeser replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I checked again, and yes, I think the focus plane is very close to that tiny pot near the top of the stairs. The focus appears to fall off both in front of and behind that pot. Keep in mind that the DOF is divided about 1/3 in front and 2/3 in back of the focus plane. Best, Christopher -
IR blur on Axis P1344?

Can you see the focus plane in that last B&W? I'm not certain, but it may be extremely narrow. Is one of the fences near the focus plane? Best, Christopher -
IR blur on Axis P1344?
cglaeser replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I did a quick read of the manual and as best I can tell, there is only one focus setting (not two for visible and IR). Unless you can find an acceptable sweet spot, I guess your best option is to use the best IR corrected lens you can find. FWIW, I have an Axis megapixel camera and it's always been a reliable performer, but I've never considered Axis to be a strong competitor at night. FWIW. Best, Christopher -
Gigabit PoE switch recommendations

I expect it would do the trick, but just so you are aware, I see what appears to be two 1U fans in the back. Best, Christopher -
IR blur on Axis P1344?
cglaeser replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'm not surprised. Many lenses are not IR corrected, and even those that are IR corrected have limits. That's why some cameras use two back focus settings, one for the day and one for night (e.g. Panasonic 502). I have an Axis 223M (manual focus only) and I just split the difference. It takes a bit of playing around to find the sweet spot. Best, Christopher -
I'm guessing he means WiFi. If so, enable password protection to your WiFi access point and don't tell them the password. Best, Christopher

That's a pretty tight budget. Even if you already had a good PC with sufficient storage, you will need NVR software, power supply (PoE switch is recommended for ease of use), cable, and cameras. Budget IP cameras are typically more than budget analog CCTV cameras. One option is to purchase/build a DVR/NVR hybrid using your existing cameras, and then add/swap-in IP cameras over time when budget permits. Best, Christopher
