Thanks AK & 3RDIGLBL, I will lower the camera away from the ceiling. 3RD, I also get motion blur when people are not stood still, I found that in the web configurator - under host setting - ToS(Type of Service) - If you enable this, you get a lot less motion blur, but in my low level light areas covered, it makes the picture a little too dark. Shame really as it really does improve blur. Well AK I am stuck then, the Camera in web viewer is set to 1280x1024 & on the avermedia setting is N1280x1024 & I wouldn't know how to obtain a higher resolution. I have fiddled with every setting and cant obtain a higher resolution. Admittedly in the record setting of avermedia eh5116pro, it records in 1280x720 and that I cannot better either as it wont let me adjust that setting. So maybe the snapshot is in the same 1280x720. UPDATE:- I am connecting to my monitor via a VGA cable & setting on the back of the DVR is on VGA, can someone tell me if I can connect using SXGA using the avermedia eh5116pro? is this the problem?

Hi folks, I have an Avermedia EH5116 pro DVR, can accept IP or analogue camera's. I would like to improve on my outside camera (currently analogue), it would be a piece of cake to upgrade wiring to POE IP but what camera will give me the best night shots? And colour in daytime? I have attached a snapshot of the current camera for guidance, it is a no name job. (Told supplier this is being returned tomorrow) There is street lighting which is low level lighting all night long. I also plan on installing a 100w sodium spot light bulb just to the right of the camera and hopefully lighting the cars in the bottom right of the pictur at least + some road. You see the man in the bottom left of the picture, if he was a thief he would never be recognized. Help greatly appreciated. Swampie

Hi rory, it is a no name. Not even the user manual has a name. The cable used is coax cable used by the previous installation from a cctv company. Not sure of the exact specification. The power supply sold to me at the same time as this camera is very domestic looking. It has a plug on one end, i was advised to cut this off and terminate inside an empty junction box. The other end had a purpose built connector to plug into the camera with ease 12vdc power supply! I was expecting a proper PSU similar to the box I had earlier taken down due failure (made by uniflood with circuit board inside & proper termination points). The user manual has nothing to adjust, only zoom & focus

Rory, your probably right. I am on my 1st install and not clued up. It took till the 3rd attempt on the termination of the coax cable to get this picture, I will check the DVR end next. As for the camera settings, I wouldn't know where to start. It is as it came out of the box but in the store where the man showed me it working he was pointing it under counter to dark corners and getting clear boxes of cables so i thought i would leave it be. Thanks Z, that was the confirmation I was looking for. Guy at the store insists its a good camera & I insisted he is having it back. Ok, if the sodium bulb is a bad idea, whats a good idea? And is it a good idea at all to use this light? I can get another bulb for the fitting if there is a better one!! Looking at the area, what camera would you suggest for the existing view, I can deal with a zoom for our cars also, but would presume I need it to be mounted much lower??? Swampie

Hi, I have an acti 7411, installed for its low level lighting ability and megapixel quality but it is black & white all the time. It is housed in a 15m long, 8m wide & 2.6m tall pool room with only wall lights when tables are not in use. There are no windows or natural light. I was wondering if a separate IR illumination would be the best method of obtaining 24/7 color. If so, what models are suggested? I need a fairly wide angle of spread as the viewing area required is 3m away from the camera mounting position to 10m away. Also, i was going to mount a camera on the opposite wall but will the IR lights to help the original camera wash out the view if a camera was opposite it? Please can you explain how i could do such a thing please? There is a light hanging close to my camera, if i tilt it so the light points slightly towards the camera (not directly into it) I do obtain colour even though the light only hits the camera and none of the room. This is useful as it makes the people playing on a table show clearly even if there is only 1 table on. I believe I am just below the colour threshhold! 1)I was going to update my light fitting to some low light led , but might not have to if I can raise the point at which the camera switches to black & white 2)Having said that, there is still some colour bleed when i obtain colour by pointing the light towards it. Would an IR light such as the one in my above post clear this bleed up? Would 1 & 2 combined do the trick do we think? All help greatly appreciated Swamp

I have bumped into this before, one mistake you can make is to enter the new IP in the cam menu, without changing the checkbox to "static IP". If you do that, and then save it, it will use the new IP for a while, until it grabs a DHCP IP from your router. Also, I've noticed that when you "save and reboot", if it does not ask you to close the window automatically, the settings may not have stuck. Also, try changing the IP and DNS settings separately, or at least double check after you set one of them, that the other did not change back, before you reboot it. Keep the faith... I've had very good luck with Acti, overall.... Do try the new firmware, but download the older version off the site while you are there.. I've had a problem with Exacq with the newest version, not sure about compatibility with other NVR's. Hardwired, you have sussed the problem thanks. "Static IP" needed selecting and it works. Funnily enough though, my avermedia would not allow both camera's to be viewed in the same way. One works by selecting "URL" to connect to camera and int the "http://" box I enter 192.xxx.xxx.xxx along with password & user. The second one wouldn't do this, despite the fact that I had set it up in Acti web configurator exactly the same way(i think). So to connect the second instead of selecting URL on the avermedia, I selected the "protocol" checkbox and then entered "IP camera site" as 129.xxx.xxx.xxx and it works fine. Any how, a Great Big Thank You to all of you guys for the help. My system is now up and running at last. I have more knowledge from the experience and am happy. Now the research starts for the camera's their self. Many many thanks to all Swamp.

Thanks very much for the advice, There has been an update to my situation. I managed to configure the Avermedia eh5116 pro DVR, NEtgear 10/100 FS726TPswitcher and the Acti 7411 IP camera to all work perfectly (ping a wonderfull tool thanks z). I changed all IP addresses to .250.xxx to do this. Left it running and a couple of hours later, the IP camera has lost video on the DVR & will not ping using command prompt! Nothing was touched. This is the second time this has happened. I have 2 identical Acti 7411 camera's, both have done the same thing. One Acti I have reset to factory and other is on the newly assigned IP but neither will ping now! Very strange. Hi Kerry, long time indeed. Remember that long night trying to get this thing working. Thanks again for the help. Only yesterday did I figure it out and it was the IP's all needed to be in sync. Cheers guys Swamp

Hi guys, I am just wondering on your thoughts on the following setup. Considering installing Acti 3411 in a pool room (excellent light when tables are all on, but very low level light with only 1 or 2 tables running) with a 12m distance to capture, it is an unmanned system for recording & playback only http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/ip_camera_3411.htm Acti 7411 to be placed on the entrance bar with a 4m range for good quality facial shots, lighting is constantly low level all over (i.e 15watt lighting throughout) http://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/ip_camera_7411.htm To be used on a AVerDiGi EH5116 PRO If anybody has used these cameras, how do they work in low level lighting situation and at the said distances please? Hi folks, So far, the cctvforum guys have helped a great deal & if I knew the differance between ****e & shinola I wouldn't be writing now. However, I need help. I want a better system than I can afford & you guys have the expertise. I have read posts from many of you proving your advanced skills & am sure with your help I can install a great system. What I would like is some backup, I can post room dimentions & room pics/films & just want good advise. I will paya consultancy fee to whoever helps me, but would appreciate some honest help,in setting up a good system. Hands up, I want to save a few quid on the local professionals doing an install, but lets be honest about this, their last system was poo & all I need to better them is advise. Hi, Is there a recommended NVR on the market that would support 16 channels of which you pro's have installed a few of and had good results with for both reliability and user satisfaction, is capable of 240 frames per second and are supported by windows as I use firefox. I suppose I can afford upto £1000 or in the region of This DIY instruction was posted somewhere in the forum, is it really that easy to build one Oh and while I am asking, I am thinking of buying the Siamese Coax (Thanks Scorpion for advice) and installing the 1st Fix before buying any equipment. Is this suitable for every setup incase I change direction of install at any point? Thanks in advance folks

Thanks for the reply C7 Hands up I am trying to save a few quid on the job as I cant afford the really expensive sytems & to be fair I may be wasting my time as has already been pointed out on here. In all honesty, i don't even know if I need an NVR or DVR to be able to suit my requirements, but was beleiving the NVR PTZ cam could be controlled remotely & liked the idea. This may well be overkill for my needs! I didn't mention NVR on cabling, I asked if there was a good NVR on the market for £1000 that would suit my requirements. However, I did ask about cabling in general as I at least know where I want my cameras and thoght at the minimum I could install the cabling ready for when I can afford the equipment I need. So in a way I was trying to future proof my self with the best cabling (siamese was best guess) which would suit all scenarios. I would imagine cabling to be relatively cheap in the grand scale of things. Thanks Marsh

Sorry for my incompetance, but would somebody mind telling me the differance between a digital video system & a video surveillance system? as they are both listed on the forum as places to post threads and I reckon my first thread is in the wrong place. Ideally I would like a 16 channel system that I can view remotely, any ideas on the cost would be nice. I will be starting with 6 cameras and adding to at a later date. Would somebody mind listing all the items needed for such a system so I can start to research and understand all the components a little more? Thanks in advance Marsh.

Quality of image is of the essence, along with remote viewing Budget: Good foundations now and add the luxury cameras when I can was the plan Threat level is low, but picture quality will stop the idiots being idiots and provide us peace of mind Night vision not required as I am only concentrating on the one inside room for now. The original out of date system already installed is covering the rest of the areas. This system is just going to slowly evolve into its successor and start in the one room we have with very poor cameras. The cameras will be viewing a maximum of 8 meters to the opposite wall and ideally will span a width of 6 meters lenses beyond me cable runs will be 30 meters max I would love to hire a company to come and fit the perfect system, but times are hard in the UK just like the rest of the world & I am a professional fiddle fingers and will have to rise to the challenge of this installation, so I will have to work the bugs out unfortunately. So for starters, its down to a case of do I buy a NVR or a DVR? Which provide the best and easiest remote viewing. Armed with that, I will add cameras as I can afford them. Bandwith at main viewing station is 5.5kbps download speed I have seen how to DIY a NVR on here and it goes like this what could be simpler than that to sort out my storage, lol

I think so far I have gathered that IP cameras are what is needed for remote viewing, but to keep the cost down could I use some IP's for remote viewing and some lesser quality simply to view & record on site? Hang on scorpion , I just saw your lengthened answer. I have looket at the colour mini camera with wide angle lense and have 2 questions:- as for remote viewing, is it all down to the DVR/NVR and not the camera? in what will surely be varying light conditions, will the mini cameras be up to the job. can i just go mad with the cabling now, send it all back to a central point for staff useage and add cameras as and when I have the DVR/NVR and find a camera that works very well in the conditions. cheers again marsh
