    Demo system for walkthroughs

that aviglon kit is easily 10k with it being megapixel cams -- has anyone used or seen their system/cameras? i am going to put them on my list to visit when out at isc west in april i use a 15" lcd and small 4channel pc unit to do a demo with several dome cams but its rare i have to haul it out....i think if you take their input and give them good feeback when doing the initial walkthrough they dont need to see anything prior to install, unless you have a tricky lightening or shot where you need to do a pilot test which i have done as well to show the system/camera can achieve what they want you can add me to that list of doing it all - its my business and i sell, install, troubleshoot, repair, train, etc

Lightening is killing my card, can anyone help? Please

i just had a client of mine get hit by lightening - it distroyed the 18 gage wire in several spots and knocked out 2 ptz and 2 indoor cameras - the ptz on the roof took the direct hit frying the board - there were green flakes of board in the spectra4 dome. it traveled thru the wire to the dvr and killed the card and went back out to the 2 indoor cams and killed them 2... i installed new cams and my client is submitting to his insurance for the cost.. i havent heard of anything that will stop lightening... since u lease the equipment do u then own it and can submmit a claim for the cost?

New to PTZ, Lots of questions:

i always hookup the ptz to the dvr as well as a joystick controller for local control - people just like to use the controller more when they are onsite - if the client is controlling and viewing all remote then just hook into the dvr.. you need 3 cables going to the ptz - coax, 18-2 for power, and 22-2 shielded for data, you can also use 18-2 if you need to but try and go with something that shielded. what mfg ptz are you considering and are the indoor or out?

Church install, kind of a newbie

some advice - dont mount anything on a telephone pole because if and when the utility guys come they will hack down your camera because they own that pole and you dont want to mess with voltage thats on that pole. next if that camera can read anything at night from 150' for 100bucks it would be sold out. i would dig a bit deeper with ur client on the license plate request... then explain to him that they will need to put additional light at each entrance/exit to the lot either regular lighting(mercury vapor type good lighting) or IR lighting to start so that you can see the cars. then they will need to either trench and lay conduit to a location where you can mount these cameras, etc etc. he'll probably stop you at trench and say just give me 4 wide shots covering the lot. extreme does make some of the best license plate capture cams on the market but you will be into the 10-20k range. the big issues that you need to conquer are the angle to even view the plate, the glare from the light hitting the plate to see it, the lights from the car that glare out the shot, the speed of the car, and the proper frame rate and resolution of your dvr... csi shows makes it look 2 easy my 2cents

Can I run 24vac wires alongside video?

    1) If I run 24vac alongside RG59 then will I get interferance? No 2) Using Cat5e: If I use I use one wire pair for video, one for 24vac and two wire pairs for 12vdc (need the current for camera plus 12vdc IR emitter) in the same cat5e then will I get good video? yes, but cant hurt to take the roll and test before u pull it and find out the video isnt good 3) Would I get good video down a 50' wire with passive baluns? yes if you use good baluns - nvt, nitek, etc

What router works better other than D-Link or Linksys?

i just put in 2 systems for a client and they had 2wire for their dslmodem/wireless router and it was pretty easy to setup for dvr access

    Accessing dvr viewing via IP

you can use a free service like no-ip.com to manage the dynamic ips if your client cant get a static ip for their dvr. other than that if they are going to use a router after the modem then you need to do some port forwarding according to the dvr manual - usually ports 80, 3000-3005 etc

remote access with hughes net satellite

one of ur biggest issues with that type of connection is going to be upload speed - its probably around 120-140KB

Dealing with bright and dark areas (at the same time)

yeah you need a camera that has wide dynamic range - panasonic is one of the best at it.. i have also used ganz wdr cameras for this with good results

    outdoor dvr

i have an application where a client wants to add 4 cams on a remote warehouse that isnt temp controlled at all - ive used some middle atlantic racks and enclosures before but those have been in places where there is some type of heating/cooling in the warehouse - this is almost as bad as mounting a dvr outside anybody have a pc enclosure that would work for this application? and im looking to keep the cost low, i have seen industrial stuff for upwards of 800bucks
  25. ive used no-ip.com -- its free and it works
