  1. Hey everyone, I have a quick software question about an older Geovision card. The card that I'm running now is GV–1480 that I purchased around six years ago. At that time the card and/or software would only work with windows XP, 32 bit OS. I see that now the newer Geovision cards will except Windows 7, 64 bit OS. Is there newer software that I can download so that I can use my older card with my newer Windows? Thanks, Casey

    Geovision password?

Hey everyone, I recently tried to set up the GeoVision WebCam server on my computer. Everything seemed to go well but then the ‘’login-remote authentication system’’ ID and password came up. I try to enter the ID and password that I thought I applied earlier, but when I do it says ‘’can not find this ID or hint’’ or ’’ Wrong password’’. And now I can’t view my cameras all. Is there any way to reset the ID and password? Or is there any way to find out what the ID and password is? I’ve tried to find this answer on other posts but I haven’t seen to come across any. The system that I’m using is GeoVision GV1480 V8.1.1.0 Thanks for any information, Casey

    Lightning strike

Thanks for the info. If I were to put a 1 amp in-line fuse on the power wire would that help in the future? Casey
  4. Last week we had a storm come through and a building of mine ended up getting hit by lightning or close to. The second that the lightning hit I lost the video on the two cameras that I have in that building. I figured it may have just tripped a circuit breaker or blown a fuse on my power supply. But when I checked my power supply everything seemed to be working. I even checked the power at the camera. My meter said that I had power. Can a lightning strike have damaged my cameras? Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? Here is a list of the equipment I am using. Geovision, GV1480 NUVICO, NVCC-HW3895IR36N camera Surveilux, SVB-54IR28L49 camera B-Tron DCR4-4-1 12 VDC, 4 output , 4 Amps fused Power Supply. Thanks for any information. Casey

I am Unable to upgrade. Need suggestions.

JD, thanks for the info and the link. I'll give it a try and see if I can make it work. I wish that I knew more about computers! Casey
  6. I have been trying to upgrade my geovision software from 7.1 to a newer 8.1.1.0 version. I am running a Dell XPS 400 with a geovision GV-1480 card currently with 11 cameras. I have a newer geovision V8.1.1.0 disc and the activation code. What I have tried twice already is to completely uninstall my earlier version and install the newer one. After I tried to install the newer one I was not able to access the program even though I was able to click on it under new programs. I am far from a computer genius so I was hoping that someone may have some suggestions. Thanks, Casey

    Outdoor cameras

I hope to get some recomendations on some outdoor color cameras. I live in Wisconsin where the winter temps commonly drop below 0 degrees F. I hope to use 5 IR cameras outside the house under the overhang and 2 IR cameras in my garage were it will still be cold but out of the elements. The outside dimensions are around 50' with not much for light to bounce off of. The garage is around 25'. I will try to use motion detector lights were I can. My budget per camera is around $300. I welcome any thoughts or advice. Feel free to PM me with any prices. Thanks. Casey

    Connectors

Hey guys, thanks for the info. I plan to run cat-5 for telephone and internet. I know very little about cat-5. Will cat-5 cable serve as a camera power cable also? What is a balun's function? If I do choose to run cat-5 are there some types that work better? Like cat-5"E"? Thanks again, Casey

    Connectors

Thanks for all the thoughts on bnc connectors. For wire I will use 18awg siamese. Does a common power supply have to be hard wired or can it just plug into an outlet? I hope to use my master closet as the system center.

    Connectors

Well my house is now framed and I'm about a week away from wiring. I hope to do a 12 camera system and will be using RG59 cable. Should I go with twisted or crinp BNC connectors? Is one better than the other? What tools/crimpers are needed? Any info and opinions would be helpfull. Thanks
  15. Hey guys, Thanks for all the view points. You're right I am still confused. I will try and start with some questions from Levon. (QUOTE) "The answer is yes, you can! We need some more information if possible please. "1. How many cameras do you need? 2. Color or b&w? 3. How many of these cameras are for outdoor? 4. How many days of recording you would like to retain in the DVR? Number of days recording will determine the hard drive capacity of the DVR. 5. What is the approximate distance of the camera vs. control location? Based on the answers, a proper power supply, cables and lenses will be recomended. I am also sure that several of our members will give you a quote accordingly.. Please let us know. Levon" 1) # of cameras. I was thinking of around 13. I will most likely need a system capable of 16 for possible future expanson. 2) I would like all of them to be color with some having infared. 3) 6 cameras inside, 5 outdoor under the sofit and 2 inside a pole building. 4) Recording 1 or 2 days. 5) Control location will be my bed room which is fairly central. The longest house camera is no longer than 70'. The pole building is under 150'. Some other main questions that I have are as far as wire goes I have purchaced a 1000' role of RG59 Siamease. I have not installed it yet. Would I be much better off going with Cat5? As far as operating systems go I will have to be able to use my mouth operated mouse since I am paralyzed. This is were from what I understand the KVM switch comes in. I would like to operate my laptop and be able to switch over to a seperate screen for the camera system. All using the same mouse. If possible I would like to have motion recording and be able to click on a camera view and turn it into a full screen view. I would also like to try and use my tv as a monitor along with the regular pc monitor (not the laptop). Thanks everyone for all your helpfull advice. Casey
