Rather, it is the feature or more accurately, the lack of network feature. I got a lot of customers who read the specs, bought it, then come back and complain abt the network viewing and searching. When the boss is accessing the DVR at the office/guardroom through network, and see something of interest on camera 1, click on camera 1, the office monitor will change to see camera 1 as well. Viola, the staffs know the boss is watching. Viola.... the guard lost the ability to monitor the compound and is stuck to watching only the camera the boss choose to watch. Have you also try to search for recorded video over network or internet ? It's damm frustrating. Each click sometimes take up to 10 secs to reflect on the screen. Try it out. Try changing the date and time to play back from, to pause a frame, fast forward, etc.

Oh, dear you can try that,,, Nope it won't. AVTech can only playback or listen to sound live on the Audio Output on the DVR. Overnetwork, they are useless on most of their DVR. Only the new AVC71X Series can do that. But it still retain the "VNC" feature of all AVC recorder. i.e. login over internet, choose a camera, your monitor connected to the DVR will also change. Search, your monitor will also see the searching images.

It's basically you get what you pay for. You can't expect to pay peanuts and get cheetah right ? You should group them into price range. AVTech SUCKS at Network. Even the Newest model also sucks at network. But other than that, for standalone w/o network, it's quite ok.

Well.. in that case u should put that down as a requirement, and shop for a DVR that support non-activex viewing. I'm suprise that no dvr had come up with a flash based viewer yet, given the popularity of flash and the non-existant of restriction of running flash almost anywhere. AVTech support JAVA applet viewing , but the remote quality sucks. Logme in is essentially a VNC application. You'll need to install activex also actually for the logmein to work. But they have other version i think that support mac, java, etc. You'll need to have another PC that's installed with the activex to vnc in to login to the dvr for it to work.

Well.. of course you can write your own program to do that, but is it worth the effort ? As i always like to say... anything is possible with a price, so, what's your budget ? AVTech DVR doesn't support USB Harddisk, only USB Thumbdrive up to a certain size. And the USB Backup and LAN backup takes dammm long... sometimes longer than real time, i.e. 1hr backup takes > 1hr. For your case, why not just run the video server software, set it to Login Record, so it'll record a copy on your desktop as well. But it'll only do for quad, you can't really enlarge the camera after recording it to your desktop. What's wrong with just ftping the whole chunk of data to your desktop anyway ? Set it to motion upon sensor, and then set a relay to switch close the sensor every hrs, and then it'll just upload lor (NO Type).

Either not enough bandwidth, or you did not authoriseds the account logged in using to the remote to allow for PTZ control. Their DVR pretty much enable you to set authority level for everything, right down to which cameras can each users see. Make sure authority for remote ptz control is enable for that user. It's different from local ptz control.

At that.. u still need at least 200 pcs of 1GB thumbdrive, or 100 pcs of 2GB thumbdrive. Or you need to repeat the process 100 or 200 times....... ... good luck. That is when DVR with software on pc to read directly off the harddisk of the DVR and convert it to PC format is useful. Don't think CPCam/AVTech has it. What's the issue with playing back directly off the DVR and searching through it ?

We'd encouter some backup prob with certain USB Thumbdrive. One of which is the Sony Thumbdrive. It comes with internal compression. Think it mess up the recording, was always only enable to record only 1 channels even if we select 2, 3, or 4 channels. Switching to another thumbdrive for backup solve the problem. But backing up using thumbdrive seems to take forever, slower than realtime. i.e. 1 min of video takes > 1 mins.

We had sent it to the local kodicom distributor (we were last time, but stop since they wasn't interested to coporate to take legal action against pirated kodicom card user/seller). They wasn't able to assist, and informed have to send back to korea for repair, i.e. huge shipping cost with no promise of repair. Anyway, anyone has a ghost image the flash memory ? we could get the ide transflash mem to replace it if we have the image of the firmware.

That's an obsolete model from AVTech. Don't think they are producting that anymore. Don't think the supervisor software's design to work with that, but looking at the video server, it might just work. I think your issues is the configuration of router/dvr for access through internet rather than lan, i.e. your port forwarding, etc setting. Are you able to access it vie other COMPUTER though internet ? If not, most likely it's you have not set it up properly for internet access.

Hmm.. .think it might be possible to add in the IR remote in another way. There's an external IO port, which support RS-232. According to the DVR manual, the system support being control vie ascii's command through the RS232 port. It might be easier to buid a ascii command sender to the RS-232 port, and then build an IR module to control which command to send to the port. But in the end, apart from experimenting (this way's without voiding the warranty as you don't need to solder anything to it), cost wise, it might be cheaper to just get the AVC761, unless you are able to build everything within $50. On 2nd thought, the Remote Controller fro AVC761 might just be an ascii commands sender, and the IR receiver basically just convert the IR signal to the RS232 port, that might be the way the IR module work in AVC761 vs AVC760. Am just speculating, someone with the correct equipment might want to test out what kind of command the remote controller is sending to verify.

Err.. are you sure you know what you are talking abt ? First of all, it's not the webserver tat's causing the issues. Webserver basically just serve out web pages, to linux, window, mac, etc. All will be able to see. It's the Client Program that runs on the Client that's the problem. All dvr comes with their own clients, of course some more popular one have 3rd party clients out there as well. The Web Version Client of the DVR mostly comes either in JAVA or ActiveX. If it comes in ActiveX, that means it's native to Windows PLUS Internet Explorer Only. That means you can't even run it on Windows and Mozilla or Firefox .... It means that the web client program is written to work on Internet Explorer and Window combination only. By putting it into another webserver doesn't help. It still won't run. As for the Installed Software version, it'll only work for the OS that it's written for. Period. Some developer wrote the client in Java, which is more cross plateform compatible, NOT because JAVA is native to all plateform, but rather most plateform has a JAVA Virtual Machine written for it, thus the software would most likely be able to work. But take note, not all java virtial machine are written alike, so some specific task might not work on certain plateform, so you'll need to test it if it's not specific by the manufacturer to work. Last but not least, if your customer doesn't want to pay you the remainder because it can't work on mac, and he NEVER specific his MAC requirement before hand, change it to CPCam/AVTech DVR. It'll work with MAC, but it'll be a piece of crap over network. But the key things is, it'll work. And also, the DVR will surely cost much cheaper than what you are giving him now, so you got cost saving some more. But before changing it, make sure it's written down in black and white on that if the DVR can work on MAC and Window, and watever other requirement he has, he'll pay you the remaining.

Ya.. also want to highlight..... it's not SOME DVRs record the max framerate in the specs at lower resolution, but it's rather MOST DVRs record the max framerate in the specs at lower resolution.

We do quite a bit of multisite connection with various dvr and their accompanied CMS. Recently started on a new series of DVR with H.264 compression. Performance quite good for its price. Downside is the searching, u can only search 1 cam at a time. But good pt's over a 256kbps upstream internet connection at the DVR site, and a 1.5 mbps downstream on the client side, we are able to connect to 6 sites, with 4 cameras each, total of 24 cameras, viewing almost live streaming from all the cameras. I say almost due to the sometimes certain hic in the internet connection bandwidth causing some jerkiness. But overall, at the price, comparing to other DVR, it does a great job at multisite remote live viewing.

761 and 781 is actually 2 very different machine. The key differences is as follow. 1. At FRAME resolution, 761 records at MJPEG. Yes. MJPEG. It doesn't record at MPEG4. It only record MPEG4 at CIF format although it is touted as a MPEG4 DVR. 781 records MPEG4 at both CIF and FRAME. As such, the recording period using the same size hdd on both machine at FRAME differ a lot. But what to do, 761 is much cheaper than 781. Peanus=Monkey. 2. Group/Fix. There's a Group/Fix option at the bottom of the record submenu. 761 only records at FIX. 781 allows both option, FIX/Group. Basically fix's the IPS/no. of camera. Group allows the DVR to allocate IPS according to level of activities detected according to the cameras.

Now it's me who have a prob. Got a unit of KSR516, basically boot up to show the 16 multiplexing screen with the cameras showing, but that's it. Doesn't boot up anymore. I suspect it's the IDE Flash memory that's giving the prob, the firmware's lost, that's why it couldn't boot up. Anyone else faced the same prob ? Or any one can send me a copy of the firmware image for to try copying back to the IDE Flash mem ? Basically kodicom just say the system's spoil, need to send back. But as all old equipments goes, out of warranty, doesn't really worth the $$ to get it repair. Already got the customer to change the DVR to another brand and model, they was pissed off with kodicom local agent services.

There's a mobile phone client (JAVA Applet) by AVTech. Design to work on phone. You can also run it off the Windows Mobile. But so far on various window mobile PDA that i had ran it on, the applet does not work 100%. You can view the live streaming, but all control buttons either gone haywired or does not appear.

Well... since it's a new unit, you should just bring it back to your supplier for them to find out the problem. Few other things you could try. 1. NTSC or PAL, are you using the right system ? Your camera, your dvr and your DVR, are they all on the same system ? 2. Used a WIRED Camera instead of a Wireless Camera. The interference from wireless cause havoc with a lot of compression codec. 3. Change a harddisk. So far, had used a lot of harddisk, never really got any problem with any harddisk with any of the DVR. No matter if they are specificed in the manual or not. You might just have a spoiled harddisk drive.

Precisely. I think 760, 761 records in MJPEG in Frame resolution, MPEG4 in CIF resolution. http://www.avtech.com.tw/english/product_13_760.htm But 782A records in MPEG4 in both Resolution. http://www.avtech.com.tw/english/product_13_782a.htm There's 2 Tables for the harddisk recording timing in the manual. 1 with very short recording time for 500GB, 1 with longer. I presume 760/761 is the one with the shorter recording time one due to its recording in MJPEG. But I would like a comfirmation instead of just assuming.

Can anyone tell me, which model is the AVC760 is inside that manual ? Model 1/2/3/4/5 ??? They never specific properly. There's 2 harddisk matrix, each with very different recording time. Anyone got the answer to this ?

Talking abt 2WIRE modem/router... Anyone know how to upgrade the key ? The ISP appearently bought certain features with the router and gave it to the user. But the DDNS feature in the router is lock down. If we are willing to pay to enable the feature, does anyone know how to go abt doing that ?

Sometimes it's your window or your hardware router/firewall. Had this prob on one of my customer's dvrs on both his home and office. Think we changed the port used, and it's ok. Till now still not too sure what happens. First time was he patched his norton internet security, and it happens. Then 2nd time it happens out of the blue. Have to restart the DVR, then it'll work... for a couple of mins, then it stop working. Perhapes someone from AVTech would like to address this issues instead ? Also, had anyone got the DDNS feature to work ? Manage to get it to work on some batch of DVRs, especially the recent batch, but the same batch, some cannot work also.. till now still scratching my head. The last reply (check the forum previous thread) from AVTech's support was.... use the Router's DDNS feature.. haa.. But i was like... hey.. your brochure stated the DVR has DDNS feature, it's inside, but i can't get it to work .... And the email i got from him was a guide teaching me how to set up DDNS on my ROUTER ... WTF... answer=no answer. And what if the router has no DDNS feature ? I've quite a bit of customer with router that was given by the ISP w/o the DDNS feature, and they are NOT running any computer at the monitored site... the broadband's for this purpose only. Remote surveillance. And the norm now is that we recommend them to change the router. But might not be feasible now, cause ISP throwing free digital voice (VOIP) services together with the broadband, and the ADSL modem supports the DIgital Voice. Changing the modem would mean the Digital Voice services would not be able to work. Anyone got a solution to this ?

Set your DNS server's IP , or ping your outgoing mail server and use the IP instead of the domain name on the DVR.

From what i know, some, in fact quite a number, of dvrs record audio which can only be play back on the console set. After backup, through network, the audio cannot be heard or saved. AVTech's range of DVR, CPCam's, and some other range of dvr's all like this. So you gotta check.

Anyone can point me to a product that's similar to AVC760 / CPD560 but with these features ? 1. Remote viewing doesn't change the local set monitor's view. 2. MPEG4 Recording in full frame instead of MJPEG. 3. Better Network Picture quality. USB/Remote option would be good. I'll need to be able to view on handphone as well.
