  1. I just lost my MB on my old Geovison system with an 8 port GV1248 card. Put it on a new GigaByte MB and reloaded the 8.1 software over itself. It even found all my settings no problem. However, the main DVR system will either loose all video (all panes say "Video Lost" or the software will just not be running. Takes about a day to have one or the other happen. In either case, simply starting the DVR system again from the Start Up folder restores everything. (IE: The camera's are not really dying). The old system used to cause a hardware reboot. This one is not. I hooked up the inline reset pins as before.. when I press the reset button that is chained after the GV1248 card it resets... What can I check to test the watchdog? Is there an application that will let me fire it manually to see if it's working or something, or is this a known issue? Nick

    Geovision 8.1 and the GV-1280?

After I posted this I looked through teh forums again and found one other who had my issue. I did NOT uninstall first.. hrmm.. maybe that was what is needed? I wound up deleting registry settings (anything with geovision in it) then I waxed all the files mentioned in the Geovision FAQ on cleaning a botched install. Then I reinstalled 7.02 from my CD, and when to 8.01 then 8.1 and all works fine
  3. I blindly went registry diving, and file deleting, and saved only a few .ini files. Did my original 7.02 CD, then 8.01, then 8.1 and no issues, works now. Doing all that then 7.02 to 8.1 straight away, no worky still.. wierd... Anyhoo, I am up on 8.1 now and all seems fine.. Though I did loose all my cam settings and AOI's.. But they needed refining anyway
  4. Yikes.. I just did that same thing.. Know where I can find the 7.x that I can try? Or if I delete it all, can I fresh install 8.1?

    Geovision 8.1 and the GV-1280?

I was looking at the v8.1 software and decided to update my system at home. It's a 3 Ghz P4/512 megs ram from VueStar (Scott hooked me up) The diag tool they offer said my system checked out and that I could do the update. The install ran OK (I did DX 9c first, then drivers for the card, then the main 300+ meg download. It doesn't start.. no errors in the event log, no errors on the screen.. no new task in the task manager. I saw that 8.1 has the 1240 as a supported card, figured the 1248 (that's what it said when I was in the application prior to install anyway) would be a sub model and be ok, was I correct? Nick

My GeoVision 1240 actually catches a thief!

Yes, agreed. I'd rather scare them away. The thought with the PTZ's scanning the CulDeSac is that I will cover more area per location allowing more cams around the house. I have an 8 input system and would like to keep 3 inside the house (they work great as omnipotent parent cams in the kids rooms, nothing beats the look on my 4 year old when I KNOW his baby sister didn't do it Nick

Yup, with teh system as you saw, I'd agree. I have now mounted halogen flood lights over that area. What you see in the video is the tiny IR LED's showing delusions of grandure.. I am also in the process of looking at PTZ dome cams to replace the exterior cams so I can get in on the action just a little better. Basically, seeing what I got already shows me what can be improved. My next thought was to get one of those 12Volt pinhole board cams, the wireless kind, and use it in my dashboard aimed out to the seats. While the car is in the driveway, the garage GeoSystem would record the feed. They hardly draw anything so they could be left wired to my car battery for days and not kill it. Or maybe have my auto-alarm (also had them installed on both cars that next day) power the cam on one of it's inputs so it is only on while armed. What do ya all think? Nick

With the constant mentioning of how much my system costed, and that they published my house on a map with an arrow AND my address, I figure in the next day or so I'll have an excess suply of Egg Yolk :\

I moved my local files to a web only folder (too many could not read the files from the photo gallery) http://www.nickellson.com/news/

The subtitles I did my self on MY version of the AVI. I use Windows Movie Maker. (the news crews didn't like the self commentary an wanted teh raw footage. That is what they used for teh interviews.) I may submit my version still to the local comedy clubs, where that sorta thing is appropriate and appreciated.

Here is the follow up news interview done yesterday: http://photos.nickellson.com/cgi-bin/photo/index.cgi?mode=view&album=/KGW
  12. I had posted here last Sept asking for advice on a home security system. ScottJ answered me and set me up with a GeoVision 1240 series with 4 bullet cams. I set it up and have sorta forgotten about it, until last Sunday Feb 26th at 1:34 am when my car and my wifes car was broken into in our driveway. My porch light is not on, so most of the light is from a distanct street light and the builtin IR LED's on the camera. Rory is hosting this for me, and keep in mind that I am showing the edited version here that I made the next day at work while I was bored. (I added the subtitles, the video is only cropped for time) http://www.bahamassecurity.com/tmp/Midnight%20Shopper.wmv The raw video was shown on my local news channels with an interview (KGW and KOIN of Portland Oregon) Nick
  13. Yeah, the camera end is an interesting search. If I can count on the GeoVision software to atleast get the data recorded, and offer a few features for motion detection and such (mostly just the basics) then for me it will be how to get the area covered reasonably well. I worked out the neighborhood sharing I think, I added a 3rd SSID to my wireless network, so atleast they get local access to the cams without using the DSL. (Using 802.1x/Peap) I'll look at the cam site. I need to try and keep the costs down as I am doing this myself for my own benefit, the neighbors just all agreed they liked the idea and didn't mind me catching the profiles of their houses. So I figure $1,500 is all I can really dump into it at first. in total. So I thought an 8 input card, just incase I will add on. Then find two good outdoor coverage cams for the front of my house, and one wide angle for my own back yard. And then I was thinking either 1 indoor garage cam or entry way cam for internal use. Had originally looked at PalmVid.com sore the card/cam's/cable, Anyone here got a better choice? Nick
  14. I am looking for some experienced advice in doing security in my own home Cul-de-sac using a PC based system. I have scanned around and found Geovision's GV-800 card and software, and liked the look from what I can get on their site. The price range for a 4 camera setup (using a mix of camera styles to get the coverage I want) seems affordable. I'd like to hear from anyone that has used this system (good or bad) and any advice on how well it would lend itself to a Neighborhood watch attendant. (I intent to watch only the exterior facads of all 9 houses in my neighborhood + the street ingress point, and would like to make the video data available to my neighbors over my DSL (I am a network geek, so that part is easy if I can get to the video) Anyone want to chime in? Does this system work well, or should I avoid it? Nick
