Do you need to stay day/night? KT&C recetly came out with a very high res color (520 lines) and low lux 0.05, with the Sony Exview chip in it and a varifoca lens. here is the link for it. size is also much smaller. http://spytown.com/kpc-vfa60cwx.html

yes, have used both. Both work very well. There is a demo of the cross point one on our site, if you got to the link i previously provided. you need to have speakers on your pc to hear.

That sony 473 day/night is actually a pretty good camera. It has Sony's new "Super-Exwave" chip in it which gives it its high (540 lines) resolution and low lux.

you may just want to stay the KPC-N600H1. think about it for the price. If you were to have to purchase a seperate box day/night good camera, lens, housing, mount, etc... you would be over the cost of the KT&C unit.

Pelco "sells" cameras. They do not make them, though their name is on it. Same as Monitors, they "sell" them, they dont make them.

Rory..couldn't agree with you more in regard to your comment on the importance of it. Thought I would further explain an IR cut filter is a color filter blocking the infrared light. There are several good reasons for using an IR-cut filter. Using a color camera to achieve realistic colors in white light requires an IR-cut filter. The color spectrum seen by the human eye is quite limited compared to the spectrum seen by a CCD camera. Especially, in the near infrared region of the spectrum the difference in sensitivity is significant. This is important to know since many light sources, including the sun, emit infrared light. A CCD color camera in daylight without an IR-cut filter will therefore see a significant amount of infrared light resulting in strange colors. Another reason for using an IR-cut filter is the limited color correction for many lenses. It is difficult to design imaging optics covering both the visible spectrum and the near infrared spectrum at the same time. Therefore, many lenses have different depth of focus for the visible and the infrared spectrum. Anyway, the IR-cut filter cuts away a significant amount of the overall collected light and thereby affects the sensitivity in a negative way. In general, color cameras are one factor less sensitive compared to monochrome (depending on the CCD chip). This is primarily due to the IR-cut filter.

I thought i would explain the following since it is being brought up EX-View is a proprietary SONY technology in which the P/N junction of each photodiode in the CCD matrix is specially fabricated to have much better photon-to-electron conversion efficiency. In addition, each photodiode (representing one pixel in an image) has a microscopic lens fabricated over it to better capture and focus light onto the active semiconductor junction. This results in an improvement in light sensitivity of 2 times for visible light and 4 times for near-infrared (800 ~ 900 nm) compared to the conventional CCD versions offered by SONY. The lux rating of the EX-View CCD is two times better than the premium SONY “Super HADâ€

here is the lens i would suggest for you http://www.cbcamerica.com/cctvprod/computar/vari/vari_pdf/HG3Z4512AFCS.pdf for an additional very minor charge, Computar will put on the a/i connector for whatever camera you want over the cost of the lens. well worth it. There is no just straight 4mm a/i in a 1/2" format. This will be the closest you will get and be a varifocal so you have some play.

you may also want to consider Delta Designs. The guy that runs is (Skipp) was formely with Winsted. Very experienced and priced alot less.

It may be the Coleman cable. That is the main brand we sell for Siamese. Excellent quality. available in balck or white.

Its a HUGE time issue. Rory.. sound's like you would like to do it, but dont really have the time. Thats all of our problem. But on the smaller scale, it could be possible to get some of these manufacturers to "send you" evaluation cameras for a short period (say 2 weeks) to evaluate and then return it once you are done. Something to think about. All of these manufacturers have these "demo" types of cameras that are used for demo or trade shows, so it wouldnt be like they would have to send you a brand new one, unless they wanted to.

too many variables. 1000's of brands of cameras, different lighting conditions, some manufacturers saying 520 lines, some saying 540 lines, which cameras would be on the list - which would not? There are just too many variables. Further to that, new cameras are introduced every day. Therefore what might be best today, will not be best tomorrow.

no. Sanyo is a true manufacture and makes their own camera. I was talking about Genwac/ Watec in regard to his line of "mini cameras". They happen to make mini cameras that far exceed standard box cameras as far as spec. Kind of on the pricey side though.

Griffon is correct. They do not sell direct as a basic rule, though they have stolen some larger projects from me (including a $100,00.00 Federal Prison Job). Rory. There has to be a reason why The Mirage, The Bellagio, and most other major casinos had always used that camera. I dont think they would want to use anything "cheap".
