  1. I always feel odd putting my country in as part of my location (you know us americans feel we're the center of the universe) but I have been browsing these forums long enough to know many of you are not from the USA (maybe even most of you).

It seems I missed this forum for my initial post/hello. I swear I looked for something in the way of an intro forum. My first is here viewtopic.php?f=15&t=19864

Anyway, I am an ex-accountant turned housedad, 2 kids, wife, house, dog... all that. I don't plan on turning this into a business but it seems interesting enough to maybe go hobby (I fell off my roof while putting up Christmas decorations a few years ago so I couldn't make it a business if I wanted to.). I'm a pretty handy fellow within my limitations. I have always loved "catching the bad guy".

Hmm, I guess I should have read some of the other intro threads to see what kinds of things to say so I guess I'll end it here for now.

Hi, would like to share with you!

  2. I joined the group not long ago, but waited to make my introduction until I'd had a chance to read more posts and get a better feel for the group. I have been happy to see that not only is the forum quite active, but that the members seem quite diverse in their practice, as this leads to very interesting discussions. I appreciate what appears to be a general policy of courtesy mixed with a healthy shot of straight-talk.

I hope I will enjoy here a lot and be here for a longer time.

    Cheers.

welcome and enjoy your self here!

  3. Hello, My name is Paul and I've just started my research into CCTV after having my business vehicle once again damaged by thugs! I came across this forum after searching Google for CCTV so I'm hoping you guys can teach me a thing or two and help me find the right system for my needs. I'm hungry for information and look forward to conversing with you all.

    Paul.

Hello, Paul, Nice to meet you!

  4. I am in need of some assistance. My mother lives alone and the attached garage is between the house and street so that she cannot see the driveway from any windows. I would like to install a CCTV of some sort so she can see the driveway remotely. So far I have ruled out wireless. From what I have read wireless might add a little flexibility but it also adds expense while only detracting from the picture quality. I would rather go through the trouble of running wire to have a better image. I have also ruled out using a computer (there is none) or the TV. The TV to be useful means it would already have to be on, and if it is on and being used, it would also add another layer of complexity to switch signal sources.

I guess what I am looking for an is external wired analog camera that can withstand rain and snow and and a dedicated 8" monitor. I have spent literally hours looking at possible camera possibilities and each time I think I find a camera that looks good from examining the specifications, reviews by users say performance is considerably less than stellar and they are disappointed. It also seems price is not always an indicator of performance. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good combination of a monitor and a single wired external camera that will withstand all kinds of weather and deliver a reasonably good image? As always, price has to be a consideration and I would like lo stay under $500 total for both pieces, but that is not chiseled in stone.

For driveway, The weatherproof vari-focal outdoor bullet....

  5. Any recommendation for cheap cctv software for USB capture cards? I have 4 USB capture cards and 4 wired cameras that i can connect to them but i´m lost about software..... i´m seeking a cheap one, as Luxriot for example is too pricey for me....

I saw one called "CAM Wizard" that appears to be cheap, but anyone knows if it is any good?

    Thanks.

What's your budget for 8 Channels H.264 Real Time Video Audio Network 8CH DVR Card ?

  9. Hi I checked out your FAQ section and done some searches but couldnt find any info on this.

My problem is i have a AVtech 4 channel DVR that was set up and working at a previous location, i have moved and am trying to set it up but forget the admin password for video server E. Is there any master password or way to reset this?

    Thanks.

Where do you buy it? You'd better ask the factory for a help..

  10. I currently have a block power supply which is 5amp. I have four cameras running on the power supply via a single pigtail to 4 outputs to the cameras. The power supply is UL listed and seems to work fine. My question is if I expand my system past 4 cameras, should I buy another one of these blocks, or replace it with an actual power supply box. I notice the boxes have fuses, but how necessary and useful are the fuses.

If you expand your system to a larger one, I will suggest you to change a compatible power box, for it will let all cameras work well...

  17. The PCIe bus is becoming the dominant interface on PC Motherboards nowadays. With this current advancement in the technology, the PC-based DVR industry was driven to adjust and adapt to the improving and fast-paced PC world. Thus, the entrance of PCIe DVR Cards into the CCTV scene.

Okay, the PCI DVR Cards will soon be replaced by the PCIe DVR Cards. This is inevitable. But what are the particular advantages of moving to PCIe when it comes to the DVR Application. Yes it will cut the over-all cost because of cheaper motherboards but will there be improvements in the DVR system's operation? I would like to know.

Actually, there are two kinds of slots in pcs, but most pcs only has one PCIE slot, but has more than one PCI slots. Moreover, it is hard to achieve to real time recording via PCI cards. In order to save cost, combine the PCI cards and PCIE Cards can make it.
