Viewlog takes into account of the timing issue. That is the best way to play them. Like he said Media Player doesn't know the fps and will play the video too fast. Is there a reason you are not using the Viewlog player? If you record at a slower frame rate it will get better. 8-15fps if you want to play with Media Player.

I took the 750GB drive and put it in a coolgear aluminum enclosure, no fan. The outside temp of the enclosure is 100 degrees at normal room temperature. The enclosure is nice because it has USB, Firewire 400 & 800 + External SATA support. And of course it is quiet.

You must have an HP? I ran the compatability tool and saw that alot of my software and hardware is not supported. There are many drawbacks to Vista. I am waiting for awhile. So far test results show Vista slows your computer down substancially in various areas. Like to here some good things though, other then the Areo interface, I could care less about that.

Rory does have it tough, believe me. Things are a lot more pleasant for the tourists than for the people that live there... Since people are mentioning what they would like to have in your program, how about adding the ability to start up your browser with whatever quality you want each camera to have. Yep. She has had a very troubled life. Son died, lot of time spent in courts over the years, recent lawsuit involving trimspa and the paternity test that was just forced upon her. I think she commited suicide. Well see.

Been real sick for over 6 months. Haven't felt like doing anything. 4 slots should be good as long as you use the big hard drives. The BTX formfactor that was supposed replaced ATX died. There are some BTX's out there, but they just haven't caught on like they thought though.

With PayPal you can link a bank account(s) to your account so that you can electronically transfer money from your bank to your PayPal Acct. Then the theif can send themselves all the money they transferred out of your bank account and the existing money in your PayPal account to themselves. I have had my account locked before because I called and told PayPal that I received some phoney emails. I was very nervous to say the least. Now after reading this thread I decided to take out most of the money. But if someone gains access to my account, they can transfer the money right back out of my linked bank account and still rip me off. The idea of having a sepearate bank account for funding your PayPal account is a good idea. Don't link to your life savings account.

Less Drives, less heat in the system, plus more room for other hard drives. If using SATA drives keep in mind many systems only support 2 hard drives. You can add an external SATA enclosure to your system, but you can't daisy chain them like firewire drives. If you ever want more storage than what you can fit inside the computer you can use a SATA port replicator to turn one external connection into five for example. This gives a lot of room for future hard drives to be added to the system. I just bought the Seagate 750GB drive, which is the worlds first drive to use the new perpendicular recording method wich allows for larger capacity and higher arial density on the disk platters which increases read and write peformance significantly. Hitachi will be releasing a 1TB drive by March. Seagate will have one by June. The Seagate will have higher arial density though for those hard drive peformance junkies like myself.

Sound Interesting. I have an old HI-8 Sony Cam that would be nice to use as a camera pointing out a window. But like you I experience the auto shutoff. The camera is not designed to be on 24-7, but if you could figure out a way to bypass the shutoff feature you could at least try it for awhile. If you don't care about the camera then if it fails on you it won't be that big of a deal. Let us know what you find out or figure out.

Any word on when you will be receiving the Nuvico WDR Dome? I was thinking about getting one, but it would be nice to see a sample shot before hand. Rory, I tried the link to that Nuvico camera and I couldn't get anything to come up other then a menu. Do you have to register just to look at their camera specs?

PCI Express x1 is faster than a PCI slot. A PCI slots bandwidth is 133MBps (32 bit slot), which is shared among all the other slots on the bus. A PCI Express slot x1 is 5Gbps (400MBps) and has a dedicated connection. X1 slot has 2 lanes for traffic, each lane is 2.5Gbps. A x2 slot would be 4 lanes, which would be 10Gbps and so on. A x16 slot can carry 6.4 GBps of data (duplex).

It is a PCI-E x1 slot card. It doesn't need the speed of a 16x slot like a graphics card which requires much more bandwidth for games, etc.

I have been using a Dell Dimension 9100 for about a year now without any problem. It is a 2.8GHZ dual core with 1gig memory. It has a GV-1240-8 in it running four cameras 24/7 using the MPEG4 codec and it utilizes less than 50% of the CPU. I have a Dell Dimension 8200 at my home that I bought in 2002 and have not had any issues with reliability.

I have really been satisfied with CenterV2. I use the Masking option to mask out the areas I don't want to detect motion. For example one camera has everything masked out except for the cash register. Everytime someone gets near that register Center will send a video clip to the remote PC. You can adjust the frame rate for Center to meet your needs. Center is a great piece of software. But if you don't use the motion detection feature you will be streaming video constantly and most people don't have the bandwidth to support that scenario.

I would get the PCI Express card as it is newer technology and you will be able to use it in future PC's when the PCI slots are no longer available in future systems down the road.
