  1. Why? Is that who makes them for Sanyo and Sanyo put's their name on them? After checking out their site I guess your saying small cameras can be high quality?

You can search the internet and see if there is an electronics recycling place in your area that will take it. Some will take it with no fee, others will charge a fee, which varies. I found a place near me for my tube, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I would suggest getting rid of it right away or you will end up storing it like I am.

    Chat Room

ClosedCircuitCom, I checked out that chat room. Interesting I have only have ever chatted using MIRC as client software. This was a new experience. It meets the basic needs of chatting. There were only a few people in there, but they made it clear no funny business is tolerated in there. No porn or Warez. They pointed me to their charter page, helpful bunch. http://www.starlink-irc.org/sldocs/slchartr.html

    Chat Room

Holy Smokes.. I checked it out around 4am and I just saw a few people cleaning up and one guy just staring up at something. They got enough stuff happening around there for at least a one hour special of some kind

    Not to shabby.
  6. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying it is taboo. I am just saying don’t expect detailed specifics. And it sounds like you already have an idea of how much it would cost? If you can work out a deal somehow direct with Geovision I say more power to you

Surveillance System design help for a beginner

I would avoid wireless if at all possible, to many interference problems I think price should always figure in, unless your filthy rich. Some cameras can easily cost several thousand dollars each. There is so much that needs to be taken into consideration before someone can give you any real helpful advice. If money is no object I would suggest contacting a professional with good experience that stands behind their work. You’ll be happier in the long run. You can end up paying more trying to do it yourself, than what a professional would charge, especially if you don’t have the time to study all the factors that come into play when setting up a system. X10 experience is the worst experience you can have, same with the cheap wireless devices, nobody with serious security needs would use that crap. Don’t mean to sound negative, just telling it like it is. If you are determined to do it yourself at least peruse this forum and try and learn as much as possible.
  8. You guys are bad I imagine it is a lot. Like most businesses when you buy in volume is when you get the better price breaks. And if your end user a company will usually charge you more than if you bought it from some other place that sell their product. And if anybody here buys in bulk from them and makes a living doing so they are not going to post that information for obvious reasons.
  9. Do you have a sample image taken from the video you can show us? The specs look good, but don't they always. Seeing a picture is helpful. The old, a picture is worth a thousand words business. It's always nice if people can share samples of the cameras they have worked with. Hopefully the majority of people that frequent this forum feel the same way

That's the truth. If you took it to a repair place they more than likely would just send out for a new chassis anyway. Nobody wants to try and solder on these tiny new PCB's, not to mention the time involved. It is more cost effective theses day to just to replace it. Hopefully you got some use out of it before it failed. And when you get the new one everything will be brand new again, instead of having a new board and a used tube. Yeah, I got one of those 36" paper weights out in my garage. It just had a capacitor go out, but I got 7 years of heavy use out of it so I’m happy. And if you replace one capacitor on a board it is a good practice to replace them all. So when I find a place I can take it to that doesn't charge me too much to dump it, it is out of here. Those suckers are heavy, mine weighed close to two hundred pounds and very bulky. I replaced mine with an HD, they are very light, I like light.

That is the hardest working transistor in a monitor. But the problem is that unless you have a fairly good understanding of electronics and specifically monitor repair, you are better off having it repaired by a qualified technician. And if the tech has experience with that particular chassis board or one similar they should be able to quickly identify the problem. The reason being is you could replace the transistor yourself, but you need to know what is causing it to fail. If it was just typical monitor problem you might be able to identify the weakness of this board and repair it. But that information is not typically available on the internet. Many times if you can solder fairly well and you can find out what capacitor, resistor or diode commonly fails on the particular board you could fix the problem yourself. I used to repair several types of monitors but they change so often and each one has it's own type of flaws that cause them to fail. I gave up and started sending mine in for repair. It’s just not worth the time and frustration you will go through. Forgot to mention that it is very dangerous. You need to remove the wire leading from the high voltage unit to the tube by means of sending the stored juice to ground. I used a screwdriver and pry off the high voltage wire and I have a wire attached to my screwdriver that is grounded to the metal frame that surrounds the monitor chassis. If I were you I wouldn’t mess with it, even if you have some type of electronics background. If you accidentally bump into the yoke the monitor can implode. Or you can get a shock you won't forget if you don't discharge the high voltage stored in the monitor properly.

It is good it was only a week or you would get nailed with all kinds of GeoVision questions.

    Geovision & Modem Access

That has to be a typo. 128mbps is extremely fast, you must mean 128Kbps or KBps It's close to 4 am there so you must be tired or I am. Actually I know I am. How fast a connection would it take to get some type of usable frame rate at the remote pc for 8 cameras that were recorded using the Geo Codec
  14. That is weird. I didn't have a reboot problem at all when I had nothing connected to the video inputs. Just the "Video Lost" message. I wonder if it had to do with the particular card you are using or software? Guess we’ll never know, because once you get it working, that’s all the counts.
  15. After learning about the importance of an IR filter I have been staying clear of any Day/Night camera that doesn't have one. As you have said several times if it doesn't have an IR filter it isn't a true Day/Night camera. Have you used this model or heard anything good about it?
  16. I did a search on that Eclipse camera as you typed it in and guess where it led me, well right back here of course to an earlier post of yours. Pretty neat trick. Let me know what I should really be searching for

When is Geovision's update being released?

I'm looking forward to trying out the H.264 support and the HDD swap support. And the other stuff.

I am on a Comcast Cable Modem Connection. I like the speedometer one, although on the upoad my needle didn't move much, but on the download I was speeding, almost got a ticket.
  19. Thanks for the dimensions. I ordered one so I can see what type of quality picture it can produce in my application, which is simply to watch a cash register that has a constant amount of light illuminating it. So the manual Iris should be ok C A S I N O

I'm not on anything, I don't do drugs.. No but seriously, I think your right about my test results. The other test sites had servers that were close to me.

That SpeakEasy test was very accurate and I like the speedometer readout, nice touch. Rory that Bandwidth place was showing around 50% lower than I am really running at. The other site I wasn’t patient enough to find the test. But, Rory your still Awesome!

When is Geovision's update being released?

No you didn't miss it. They haven't released it yet. They are probably still testing it. Hopefully they won't be like Microsoft and be really late with the release. I've seen 4th Quarter release date and that isn't over with yet. Current software release is 7.04.
  23. Hook up a VCR or DVD player like I did to your video input and see what happens Go from there Don't forget to set your port limit number. I did not see a Geovision Card Model given or what software your using so this is the best I can come up with right now. That Geohealth.ini file Doug mentioned does have a reference to a software watchdog. I have a GV-1240 with 7.04 software. You can try setting the value to 0 from 1 and see what happens. Make sure to exit the program and then re-enter so that file gets read again.

    Not happy with KT&C KC-N600NH

I agonized over using a color or B/W in a Bar. I don’t know what your lighting situation is but if it is low light your better off with a B/W. Color is very nice when it will produce a non-grainy clear crisp image, buy you need very good light for that. Not to mention color distortion if you have other light sources messing with your colors. Look at the color pictures Rory posted of the color cameras, the colors were all funky. All depends on your situation. I wanted to put in all kinds of bright light in that bar so I could put color cameras in, but alas the bar wanted to keep the customers coming in for drinks. Plus people look better in low light for the social factor.

C7, that link you posted for the Speed Test is bad, I get a 404 page not found message. I was going to try it, but oh well. There are several sites that let you test your speed. If the site you were thinking of measures upstream that would be good.
