  1. Good specs on that Ambush dome. They are just down the street from me. Never knew. Thanks!

The place where we are putting in the domes are kind of dark and a small open area outside. The camera would just be less then 8 feet from the doors. Don't really need Auto Iris, and I was thinking that the IR might cause the Mechanical IR to switch all the time.

    Whay do you think?

  2. I've got 3 of these at my house. A little spendy, but nice.

Nice cams, I know but the customer does not want IR.

Will probably go with KT & C. They at least have an EXView one with a 0.05 Lux.

    Rory,

The Vandal Proof dome is the only way to go for business atleast if it is an "open to the public" area. I also got tired of running around fixing broken cameras.

Set one channel to record in 704 X 240 (the 704 X 480 is not much of a difference, and way slower remotely), the other to record in 352 X 240. The problem is that the higher the res , the slower the remote speed. The unit supports 4 channel audio.

Make sure that the camera facing the cash machine is really zooming in on the registrer. Makes alot bigger difference then resolution etc.

You do need a text inserter also, like

  4. The last/only Speco DVR was such a piece of #$%^& that I would not touch it. Felt i got serously ripped of. I don't think their pricing is in the line for what they sell.

BTW Tried KT&C's IR bullet cameras last week. Beutiful looking cameras! Putting in another 4 tomorrow, no IR.

    Keep you posted

  5. Couple of questions

    1. If you use a housing and mount the camera in the back to shade the camera from the sun or if you have the camera facing north or south, would you still (in general, experiment needed of course) have to close the iris a little on the manual iris lens?

    2. If you then mount the camera in a location where there is never direct sunlight (loading dock overhang, lobbies etc.) there would never really be a need for auto iris lenses?

    3. 1/3 verses 1/2 lenses? It would make sense that 1/2 lenses would in general have a lower aperture rating then 1/3 lenses since I would asume they would let in more light. Would it then be better to use 1/2 lenses in lower light conditions.

    4. Quote: (not all cameras offer this option, and Auto Iris lenses are generally less efficient than Manual Iris in terms of optical performance, particularly with larger apertures at night).

Do you feel in general that manual iris lenses are better designed or... then Auti Iris lenses.

    5. How does this all effect WD cameras like the GE Ultra View etc. in terms of Manual or Auto Iris?

    6. What other advantages are there with 1/2 lenses on 1/3 cameras, if any?

Agree that manual lenses look better, but never looked at it that way.

    Great info!
