It's a good idea to check not only what the individual camera requirements are but what the total potential draw is and to make sure that your switch can handle it.

For my purposes an iphone connection is not necessary(I dont even have an iphone!). ADI has an office near me but they wont deal with me because I am an end user although I guess they could get me the name of a dealer.

Anybody have an idea of what the approximate cost in hte US of the Bosch NBN-832 is?

Mobotix and Stardot have cameras that operate in cold weather without the need for heaters. Neither are what I would consider cheap though.

I would think that a good burglar alarm system would be more effective in most circumstances. Most incidents would happen at night. What are the chances that anyone is going to be checking their email at 2am? Alarm goes off, central monitoring center notifies the police, and hopefully the alarm siren scares them off. If it is a smash & grab of which there have been quite a few instances in my area then there is little to stop it except physical security measures(security bars, etc.). Then you have to rely on CCTV to get a good capture and maybe, just maybe the police will get them. Yes, I know. The vast majority of crimes recorded on security cameras are never solved. Any Costco CCTV system can do that. If the only requirement is to record video that will make a nice youtube upload to show your friends, sure, there is no need to be notified of a crime in progress, and there is no need for remote viewing. If there is no requirement to solve the crime, then just let the system record the crime and you can come to work the next morning, open a bag of popcorn, and enjoy watching the recorded video. You can even make a copy for the police. Odds are close to zero the video will solve the crime, but it feels good just to give them a CD for the police report. I am not interested in designing that type of system. My number one requirement is to design a system that will result in arrests. Based on my track record, I think I know how to do that. The lack of a lens is not that unusual and my experience has been that cameras that come with lenses often come with some piece of crap that I end up replacing anyways. I would also say that the daytime video is excellent but the low light video leaves a lot to be desired. I dont have any experience with running these cameras on Windows 7 but on XP the issue with IE is that I was unable to upgrade the firmware. I had to roll IE back to ver 6 or 7 to get it to update otherwise the camera seems to function fine under any version of IE. I just want to say that my experience with tech support in USA has been a lot different. They have been very responsive except when it comes to returns. They only want to deal with their distributors but that is a problem when the camera breaks a couple months out. Also, they supposedly have no parts to repair the cameras. So if you are in warranty you have to get a replacement otherwise I suppose you have a paperweight. I have had 3 2300s and 1 2100. The 2100 and a 2300 have had to go back due to defects. The 1 2300 worked for 4 months before suddenly dying. Statistically insignificant sample size but I am not too happy with the QC. I also heard that Panasonic bought out the CCTV divsion. Makes me wonder what will happen in the long run.

Swapped out the cameras today and still the same issue. Also tried swapping with a known good PS that worked fine at roughly twice the distance of this location. Could be an interference issue with some very nearby flourscent fixtures. I will have to check the run again next week.

I'm going to put the other camera in first. That should eliminate a number of potential issues. I will try resetting the camera if the other 1 is working ok at that location. Default the camera and try again.

It's not POE. It's 12VDC PS. PS is good. The run is only about 20 feet. I installed it. I used the B standard. Its a relatively old camera at about 6 years or so. It's possibly it just went haywire. I have yet to try to swap out with the other identical unit I have. I may have a chance Fri.

Been away on vacation. I'll try it out and recheck the connections.

When people complain about the noise from the fan on that unit they are not kidding. I have mine in a closet so it is not a problem. If I had it sitting next to me it would drive me nuts. A good unit otherwise IMO.
