All hardware is different and the IPOD touches are still in beta form Apple. So not everything will work the same. Simply make sure everything has latest firmwares and you should be good but of course you will see that different devices such as IPOD via IPHONE will have different issues. Stick with the best such as IPHONE as the IPOD's are not fully desgined to work via the WEB.

Actually, there is no one answer to that question. How do you define "best"? Best for what? Best to whom? No single machine does everything. Only you can determine which is best FOR YOU. You mean, like in cable TV? I've never ever seen one that has that capability built-in. Main reason is probably because there's far too much variation in what's needed to integrate it, it would be cost-prohibitive, if not outright impossible, to build in the capability to work with ANY cable system.

I dont know the exact specs but i think that if you are trying to access a camera using standard hubs/switches that you can only pass through about 4-5 switches before signal is too weak. In these cases you want to use fiber. I know that there is signal drop every 300 ft but i know there is limitation on how many switches you can pass through. Are you using this for IP camera or analog?

it could be the size of the file your trying to archive. I know many softwares that will not allow you to create a AVI that are larger than 1GB. How big is the file?

However Vivotek uses a smart search feature that will not look for the cameras IP's but more along the line of the cameras MAC id's so even if your not on the cameras same ip (e.g your computer is 192.168.1.? and the camera is either 169.168.7.? or even 10.0.0.? the software will still be able to find the camera. Many major manufacturers search via MAC id's now such as Vivotek, ACTi and Arecont Vision. However new features that are now starting to get implemented into IP cameras are that the camera's will not be able to be found after 5 minutes of operation such as the Panasonic I-PRO camera series. Vivotek has not started using this feature yet. Contact us should you need assistance as we are very familiar with Vivotek. We will be happy to help you.

Why dont you just load the Vivotek utility IP finder and search for the camera. Vivotek software will still find the camera no matter what and then you can login via the IE browswer and factory reset the camera. Call us should you have any issues.

Are these IP cameras or Analog? I have seen this with ip cameras before and usually doing firmware upgrade will fix issue. If analog cameras then your only option is to upgrade firmware for Standalone DVR otherwise it means that the capture card device is going bad.

Are there mulitple NIC's on the system. Usually having 2 gateways on 1 system and not having them bridged will block internet access as it doesnt know what gate way to use. If using 2 or more nics only 1 nic card should have a gateway while the others have only IP and Subnet.

When this happens there is little to do. Unlike PC's you cant remove the battery and hope that it resets password. The only option you have is to contact manufacturer and ask for master password. Sometimes they give it sometimes they dont.
