  1. Haha, I think I'll be taking the route that Soundy proposed. "salesdroid" hahaha.
  2. So I had a useless salesman screw up again, and this time it's not lookin' good. He sold a customer a Hunt HVRM 4 channel DVR. Problem is, the customer *only* has a Macintosh laptop, and no PC. 2nd problem is that there is no monitor on the DVR at the store, so it *has* to be accessed by remote viewing. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can make this work?
  3. I've setup 8 cameras on 2 access points, and the quality is definitely better, but cameras are still cutting out. What kind of gear would you recommend?
  4. Great suggestion. I'm working on setting up access points right now, and i'll let you know how it works out. We also decided no matter how much of a pain in the ass it is, we're gonna run cat5 for at least 5 cameras. So hopefully that will also help a bit.
  5. I ended up moving one of the cameras to a different location inside the residence, and the one outside seems to be working fine now. The one inside is perfect, due to the direct line of sight to the receiver. So at this point I'm happier with the installation, but I really appreciate the responses, and will definitely make note of all the advice. Thanks again!
  6. So, we have a big installation coming up with 16 wireless IP cameras (Sentry) with a Sentry Hybrid NVR. I have been trying to get these god damned things working properly for a week, to no avail. I've spread the cameras evenly throughout my office, and configured them for CIF @ 30FPS with a variable bitrate. All of the cameras work...sometimes. When I look at the screen, I never see all 16 cameras working at once. They all flicker on and off, like there is not enough bandwidth or something. However, to eliminate that as a suspect problem, I have tried using FOUR different routers. All of them give me the exact same results. Even pinging the cameras is quite painful, as they definitely are a far cry from replying 100% of the time. We spoke with a manufacturer that said wireless setups are flakey at best, and they don't even sell wireless cameras for that reason. So is there something I'm missing? Anyone have any experience with doing something like with through POE instead? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  7. I'm looking for some pointers on wireless video solutions. The company I work for employs a salesman who often will do a home & business package deal for customers. So we all know running cable in homes is a huge pain in the arse, so we recently delved into wireless solutions. We ended up going with a transmitter & receiver from our main supplier, but after testing the system in the office, and installing it at the residence, I'm not really impressed. The video is very touchy... plenty of static, cuts out from time-to-time... The cameras are mounted on the corner of the garage, and DVR is in the kitchen about 30 ft away. Obstacles include the front door of the home, and wall of the garage. We even bought 6ft coax cables, and a couple high-gain antennas to acheive the shots. The transmitters are inside of the garage, the receiver in the kitchen of the home. Antenna are in the soffit of the garage, facing the house. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
  8. I appreciate your response, but seeing as how I'm capable enough to install a security system, I would like to point out that I'm certainly capable of Googling the manuals for this machine. As per my reading of the manual, and my discussion with GE, you have to send the machine back to Georgia to get them to reset it. THIS is my problem, not the fact that I don't know how to use Google to find a manual. Thanks anyways.
  9. I have a customer with a GE Digia II DVR, and she has forgotten the password. Someone has told her that it needs to be shipped away to GE to get the password reset... is that correct? Or is there a secret way of doing it?

Cameras in a very humid pool area

We aren't using environmental enclosures... just outdoor vandal domes. the room is already quite warm and super humid, so im curious to see if anyone else has run into any issues in this type of environment..
  11. We have a potential upcoming installation with 2 cameras being installed in a pool area that is very humid. Could anyone advise me on how best to protect the camera, and the connection from corroding, or the lens fogging up? We will be using vandal-proof outdoor cameras. Thanks!
