  1. I haven't been to the forum in a year, but now I'm ready to buy new hardware and was hoping a solution would be at hand by now. So much for convergence. Anyhow, I what I'd like are two DVRs (no PCs) one 4ch and one 8 ch. for each of my locations, with remote view capabilites that are browser based to work on the following machines: Motorola Q PDA running Windows Mobile 5, Sony Vaio laptop running Win98 and IE 6.0, and HP Desktop running Win Vista and IE 7. Making all this happen straight out of the box is more importatant than price. Suggestion? Dealers speak up if you've got something I should look at.

    Viewing DVR on PDA?

viewing this thread's posts I see no one has really licked the plug-n-play PDA viewing problem. mobile/ PDA remote viewing confusion

LAN isn't going to cut it. Must be truly mobile. It seems like I ought to have the phone in my hands first, and try in on a couple of different DVRs, which sucks, 'cause my old system is dead, I'm without any kind of remote surveilance and the new phone doesn't come out 'til Q1 2006. Its hard to believe I'm the only person trying to view my locations via a smartphone. I guess I have to have it in my hands first and then try viewing several Mfgs. demo sites unless someone can gurantee me compatablility. -ah
  4. Help! I thought I knew what I was looking for, but reading some other posts makes me more confused than ever. Here's what I want: DVR (no PCs) 4 ch., triplex, and viewable on my home computer via the internet and on this forthcoming phone: http://www.mobiledia.com/phones/motorola/q.html I'm getting confused by GPRS, 3G, ActiveX etc., pocket IE, MIDP2.0 protocol etc. I don't know which DVR to choose. Only some mention PDA type viewing. Many seem to have specific remote viewing software that I suspect can't be loaded onto my phone. I'm not a techie, just a small business owner trying to keep track of my locations, so please use the KISS priciple in your replies. -ah

    wanted: remote viewing w/o software

Poor image quality. Slow frame rate. Unstable platform. Eventual motherboard failure. I was younger and dumber then and didn't know really what to look for.

    wanted: remote viewing w/o software

Can't do PC based. Burned on those things before. Want DVR this time instead.
  7. Looking for 4Ch DVR with remote internet viewing capabilites that doesn't require loading of any software. WHy? I want to be able to view my locations using a WI-FI enabled PDA or Smartphone. Most of these smartphones use Symbian, Palm OS, or soon Microsoft Mobile 5.0. I don't need elaborate controls, just viewing. I can load whatever viewing software on my home PC, but that doesn't help me any when I'm out and about town.
