    New camera for front yard

May want to try some of the low light cams now available with 3dnr. They are low light cams that use a slow shutter and digital noise reduction to remove grain from the image. they work very well but even better with a long range IR lamp. Samsung do a range which utilize this tech.
  2. Does anyone have any experience with the VLC API for use with VB.net? i am thinking of using it for video capture in a VB.net form to capture stills. cheers
  3. SNB-3000 up for grabs with 5-50mm lens and housing on ebay. perfect for anyone wishing to test out this new network Ip camera from Samsung. Goto http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170563253235&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

    Foggy night image

looks to me like rain spots which have dried to leave dirty marks on the class. it is so typical to see an image like that once rain spots have settled while the IR is on. as most of the posters have written here, it looks like IR is being reflected back by something on the glass. i very much doubt it would be a damaged separator because it simply would not yeild an image such as that, it would be more of an even wash out on one of the corners spreading inward. have you been jet washing the area maybe and used strong cleaning products which may have tainted the glass over time? i would say use some spirits to make sure you clean all residue from the surface and see how you get on.
  5. If anyone is familiar with samsung cameras you will know they have a very good reputation for quality and excellent feature set. Samsung is a company that prides itself on producing a wide range of CCTV security cameras that are designed to fit the video surveillance needs of business owners all over the world across virtually every industry. Indeed, there is a set of Samsung CCTV cameras for just about every business owner. However, one of the most commonly reported concerns that many new business owners have is what camera they should look to next for their security system. A common mistake is that security cameras will last forever without a need to upgrade as technology improves but this is just not the case at all. In fact, it’s much easier to find a suitable upgrade every few years than it is to try to handle the growing needs of your organization on old technology that grows obsolete as security trends change and improve over time. But If you’re interested in a camera which has all the features and quality associated with samsung then you may want to consider the DTV-VLDINT/VF/W5. Like the SID-70P, the DTV-VLDINT/VF/W5 is also a day/night Dome camera. It boasts all the same specs, such as 1/3" Super HAD colour 600TVL CCD, and 2.8 - 10mm varifocal lens. The big "but" here is that the price is much less for essentially the same camera and internals with even a warranty to match. This makes the DTV-VLDINT/VF/W5 and very affordable OEM alternative to a highly regarded brand that is perfect for areas where traditionally larger cameras aren’t able to go. If you are planning to deploy security monitoring into a high risk environment, this may be a great option for that purpose. All things considered, the recommendations here are just that — recommendations. The right system for your organization’s needs might ultimately come down to cost, and if this is the case you might want to compare these two cameras and make you own decision about what is best for you. The best way to use these recommendations is as a tool to further refine what your needs are and at what cost.

What brand type of hard drive?

i'd have to agree. i never have a problem. you can even buy industrial grade now with extended lifespan.

    what is background recording?

i would say it was an old spec dvr way of describing a multiplexing dvr.
  8. thats a tough one. tbh honest i never use cat5 to cable with. rg59 all the way on new installed because the quality of signal tends to be better plus it has the correct ohm termination. i would try and use a box to tidy the wires as much as possible and spiral bind as much as possible to keep it all contained
