  1. when I noticed they had a lot of Pelo ccc1370h's and I thought twice! Kidding of course <- (necessary disclaimer for the morons out there, and you know who you are! Or do you?). But I was wondering, why are the Pelco's so much smaller than pretty much every camera that is in open air, ie AM/PM, 7/11, other banks, etc. I still haven't done my system yet, but always get the info on every camera I see so I can research it. Most of these guys don't have images or videos for demo purposes, I find that annoying. Soundy - The floor is yours!
  2. By Db we are referring to Decibals (if i spelled that right) yes? And what is using the meausrment, the lense? Letting the amount of light through? 52dB would be better than 48dB yes? Forgive my ignorance I'm learning as I go.

    59 vs 6

OK, so I'm looking at buying 6500ft worth of cable. I'm trying to decide if i should get rg95 or rg6. I read that rg6 is the better of the two, but I've been reading how a lot of people are buying 59, so i don't know what to do. My longest run is 770ft, the shortest is 120ft. This will all be run underground in conduit, NEVER see daylight or water. SOUNDY - found the liquid tite, knew that's what I was looking for when i saw it. Connectors were just cool to play with, i don't know why. But do those compression connectors screw into the housing? does the housing have 1/2 inch inlet, or even 3/4? 1) Should I go siamese? 2) I need to power (as im sure you know) the heater and fan in housing as well, so can i power the camera, heater, and fan off of one power line or should i separate the camera from the housing equipment power line? 3) Cheaper to go coax and use cat5 as power or is cat5 too thin? I can buy rg6, solid copper core, good jacket, aluminum braid and aluminum foil, 500ft for $50 after tax. If i go same distance, same cable but siamese, I'm adding another $100, I don't see the value in that especially when i need 7-8 more rolls. I can get cat5 or even another type of cable and pull it all through for less than $100 per roll all inclusive. I have a large budget (6k) but I do need to stay withing those bounds and its getting tough. thanks again guys, and girls...

Because I'll be traveling 1100 miles and installing a whole system, doing things I've never done before, I've done close to 80 hours of research on CCTV. I've looked up cameras, housing, cables, conduit, connectors, crimpers, dvr's (pc and standalone based), lenses, etc and I've made my choices. But since I'll be gathering the equipment and traveling I'm nervous about making a mistake and getting the wrong item. I'll be using rg59, station-z, heated and blown housings, 1tb min DVR (still undecided), pulling 6500ft worth of cable, and installing 14 CNB BBM-24f cameras and deliberating on license plate cams. I've checked, checked, and checked again. So I'm checking one more time. Cameras on poles 12 feet high looking over a mobile home park, there will be snow and it will rain often. I want to make sure my choices are clear, cover the area I'm looking to cover, and I can see well at night. If that means adding some IR then I will. I am a pro photographer so I'm very familiar with light compensation. If there's a lot of back light then I'll add fore light. My camera choice is 600color and 650BnW - Still looking for the right priced dvr that can either accommodate those cameras or downgrade the cameras. Yes I'm paranoid, but we're also spending thousands on this project so I need to make sure I do this right. Thanks for listening.

Ilk, can you tell me more about isolation transformers, line correctors, and such other items? Being as I'm 100% new to this I'm re-reading all of my threads and asking now before i get screwed later. Thanks in advance

    59 vs 6

as I re-read all of this, i was thinking about something my sister was telling me, she's an electrician. There is an issue with having too much to energize and too weak of a supply to do it with. So if you had 18/6, three pairs of two wires for catX, you may have taxed the power supply - this is all allegation for me but something I thought about. And Soundy, where does one find a supply that does more than 24vac? Can you crank the supply's nominal up or is there something for dealing with v-droop?

    Max distance...

You have ever made a single run, what cable 59/6, copper (hope so)?

Anyone else notice that the search button doesn't do anything? I get a lot of "suggestive" searches when I type, but search just refreshes the page.

hahaha, you sent ME the link. haha I think I did already.

no. I was looking at your pics on FB and saw a lot of audio work. A1 audio tech.

    motion detection

I see this option available on many camera's, but how does this differ from the detection on a DVR?
  13. dino_squirrel

    motion detection

so basically it's for alarm recording? I'm thinking CNB in specific. Let me see if I grasp this. you set the area of motion, and when that area is affected the camera outputs a signal from the alarm port? Almost allowing anything to be hooked up within the realm of imagination and some relays?

i noticed that a drop down comes up when you type, but it pretty much generalizes your search rather than bringing up only your chosen criteria.

would you say the image quality from the BBM is the same VCM? please excuse how insulting this may sound, but I wasn't impressed with the vcm at all. I'm doubting my choice for using one of those as a license plate cam. I know the lenses are definitely differnt and that make for a different situation, you get the rounding on the edges, thet fish eye look and there's no zoom with the VCM. As I said, this is why I need to quintuple check EVERYTHING before I buy. Thanks again Soundy, I appreciate your patience.

well i found an encloser for $40 +- and it wasn't heated but now i can't find it. How does the VCM-24vf compare to the BBM-24vf? The image quality i thought was lacking on those pics. I need a camera (well 2 to be exact) that can pick up license plates, well. Can i adjust individual channel frame rates on the dvr?

I'm not from the area but a pictures I saw there was 3 feet of snow. Now, I thought blowers were for ventilation, evidently I'm wrong. The housing is SEALED air tight? Check our site out, www.ResoundProductions.com click portfolio for vid and photog. we actually do full length films as well. look up "fear lives here" and you should find jumpstarter.com and watch the trailer. we're editing but we did camera work and other stuff on the set. got a few other projects " i can't talk about"... love the industry and the BS terms.

    BNC Lightning Gevision 1480A

From a PC tech standpoint: Hells to the yes! Surge protector. Want to go further? Get a power stabilizer (if that's the right term). I know what I mean, but I'm not sure I'm saying it right. I think these http://www.voltage-converter-transformers.com/voltage-stabilizer.html might be what you're looking for. These keep the sine wave at 60 hz and the ac power at 120volts +-5%. I don't know about those in general, but I was giving more of an example.

I'm going to use 18. I was interested in siamese but the cost outweighed the work and then I could run four lines, 3 coax and 1 3 pair station-z, so rather than 3 bulky siamese cables. That would monetarily cost less as well. I originally wanted to run video baluns but THAT cost was too high as well. hm... maybe I should. that would make switching over to an ip system later VERY easy. Run more cable? Don't think so! You sir thought ahead! hahah.

I was concerned about back light coming from the homes and/or street lights at night. Example being, if there is a porch light on the camera will speed up the shutter darkening the surrounding area, correct? that's why i was thinking about IR. If you feel the bbm 24f will not need that then I will not get it. I always thought (while watching the vids on youtube for their camera examples) that the blocking of bright lights didn't really do much. the physical light is invading the chip and no software can just reduce that, unless I'm wrong. My camera expertise comes from Canon - 7d 5d, 1d, etc. Bellingham Washington. 3 feet of snow will build up. It gets cold but if you think I won't need heaters then I wont waste money. I'll get regular housing. Station-z is 18awg too if i read correctly. I will admit that I do ebay a lot of this stuff for price comparison, BUT i only look up the exact item not a knock off or similar.

    Can you identify this please?

Well let's work with Sue with what she has to limit her cost (legal and emotional). So Sue, here is a video of what lasers do to cameras. This is a red laser, it does NO PHYSICAL damage, it just keeps the camera from seeing things. Blue and green are not only expensive, but someone else noted that they are illegal in some areas. Red lasers are very inexpensive, around $5usd. <----- that's the red laser in a camera. Also, you took pictures of his camera with your... Camera phone? I'm assuming this can do video. When you come home, go outside, go ANYWHERE where you think he might be switch over to video mode, don't necessarily record video, remember the video portion records AUDIO as well. That''s evidence. With the time stamp placed on the video BY the phone, and the time placed on your phone by YOUR CELL provider, you can't fake the time and embellish your story. I call that a poor man's attorney. If he want's to play the crazy game, I would suck it up, take a deep breath and go over asking him what the cameras are doing and where they are pointed. If he refuses to give ANY information, then it's fair game. Stand in the front of his house, and just stare at his house, and do this as long as you can. The scariest people aren't the people with the nukes that launch them, they are the people with the nukes, that wait. Grab a set of small ear bud headphones, an mp3, minidisc, walkman, cd player, and play some music so you don't get bored and mess with his head! <- I'm half serious here, if he want's to play then by all means. My mom raised just me, with just her. She's a huge fighter. We used to hunt her stalker, we snuck up on him with a gun and he was scared sh1tless as he stared at our house. That's why I'm a little sick here, but NEVER let anyone walk on you. If you wear a watch, pretend to yawn and bring your watch as close to your eye as possible, you'll notice you get a DAMN good reflection. Mine is quartz crystal so it's flawless and mirror image EVERYTIME. If he's behind you at the store, don't let him know you know he's there, just go down isles that make him nervous, toiletries, feminine care, household cooking (knives...) practice using these items IN the store, but not in the kitchen. "well let's see, how does this feel as a bat, no I much prefer the swift clean cutting motion of Master Zhin Zhu's all purpose cut's it all stainless steel knife." If anything I just said is illegal, then don't do it. Be creative. But i also like the idea of standing in the street singing nursery rhymes, that's a good one.
