  1. I am setting up my first system based on a Hikvision DS-7600 NVR. I have a Hikvision DS-2CD2032 IP camera and this is working fine. I also have a Storage Options PTZ F series camera, that i would like to store to the NVR. Is anyone able to confirm whether this is possible and what I may need to do on both the camera and DVR to get it working. Its not going to be used long term, but is for something specific i want to do at the moment. I've configured Channel D02 on the NVR to the IP address of the camera but suspect there is more i need to do. I'm assuming the camera wont be using the standard hikvision port of 8000 and that i may need to configure a custom protocol? I'm guessing the Storage Option camera is a branded version of some generic Chinese camera. Limited experience of this so just trying to see if anyone has experience. Thanks Nick
  2. I'm looking to buy my first DVR. I wanted to do things well and from reading forum posts and research I finally thought I'd settled on a Apollo DVR, but then when I actually try to buy one it seems nearly imposible. I believe ADATA are the official UK distributor, but when I rang them a while back they would not sell to me as I was not a trade customer. There appears to be few other places that stock them in the uk. A site specialising in light bulbs!! seemed to originally selling them, but isnt any more. I rang them and they told me supply was completely irratic so they had stopped. Then there appears to be much confusion over the branding and the models. Support also seems questionable. I've been planning to set a system up for months now, and each time a hurdle gets in the way and stops me. I'm beginning to question why I dont simply go out and buy something that is widely available via the internet or local shops such as a Swann. I imagine for the more experienced on this forum this might seem like a completely nieve approach but lets assume I set up a Dahua DVR and a Swann DVR with exactly the same cameras. What is the Dahua going to give that is way better than the Swann. Can anyone comment or my observationss including any recomendations of some other good alternatives, that are widely available in the uk. I'm working on a budget of about £250 for the DVR Thanks Nick
  3. I need to urgently install some form of CCTV at a property in a remote location as the property is empty and has already had some unwanted (I'm being polite) vistors. Longer term I will look to put something more comprehensive in to cover the building but need something now that will capture anyone on foot or in a vehicle coming down a lane. I'd like to capture the number plate if possible - lane is narrow so vehicle approach would be quite slow - less than 10mph I was thinking of some form of widlife capture camera - I think they are generally refered to as 'Trail Cameras'. I'm looking to spend in the order of £100 - £140. Can anyone offer any advice in this area? Considerations that i need to make? Also if anyone can recommend helpful suppliers in the uk? If this is not the best forum category please let me know. Many thanks Nick
  4. I'm setting up a CCTV system in my house. One of my requirements is to monitor the bottom of my garden (shed, fruit trees etc) The garden is quite long. The area I want to monitor is about 60m from the rear wall of the house. I have a gargae set back from the house which could also be used for mounting a camera, but the distance to the area that I want to monitor would still be 40 - 45m from the back of the garage. The area is dark. I want to achieve good night time monitoring. Currently there are no conduits / ducts or services down to the shed or area I want to monitor, but putting something in would not be out of the question. I thought about a camera on the back of the garage, but even with an IR illuminator thought the range of 45m might be pushing things? I wwould be interested to hear options and equipment for achieving this. Thanks Nick
  5. OK guys thanks for the advice.. After some searching I think the Dahau "apollo" is probably in my range. I will also take a look at the Avermedia 1004 nano Just to spin this another way... A friend of mine has a SWANN package (DVR4-1200 with 4 x pro560 cameras). The whole lot including cables is available for less than £250 in the UK. This is obvously a huge price differential compared with some of the DVR's im currently looking. He's going to show me the system.... and I suspect I will be impressed. Question is what are the limitations of such a system?... they seem to get good sales? thanks Nick
  6. Thanks Adam. Yes for that money I know my expectations must be limited. 4 cameras will do me for now. 500Mb or possibly 1TB for a bit more money Networkable with remote viewing. Dahua doesnt seem to be available widely in uk unless I'm searching for the wrong thing - can anyone advise of a UK supplier? Nick
  7. I'm new to CCTV, and would like some recommendations for a budget DVR for residential use: I looked a few months ago and was looking at Avermedia (EB3004net) or Avtech (DP674) I'm looking to spend approximately £200 (excluding Hard Drive) I've seen Dahau (Mace?) mentioned quite a lot - but not sure if these are widely available in the UK What about Swann which does seem to be readily available in UK Any recommendations? Many thanks Nick

    Looking for budget DVR

Thanks for the info so far... some interesting comments for me feed into my decisions, but would really like some comments on the two models that I mention. The dedicated micros kit seems to be a bit more than I want to spend initially... and again doesnt seem to be that widespread in UK... unless I'm missing something.
  9. Hi, I new to the CCTV game and looking for a budget 4 camera DVR for residential use to get started. I've been looking at the Avtech KDP674 which seems popular / widely available in the UK. I've also come across the Avermedia AverDIGI EB3004 net but availability does'nt seem so widespread. Just would be grateful of some opinions, comments, including any other DVRs that i ought to consider. Thanks Nick
