KT&C KPC-S20P4 pinhole mini camera vs. Bosch LTC0620
mike_va replied to mike_va's topic in Security Cameras
raining here tonight someday perhaps. I took the rating with a grain of salt. After a lot of cameras, if it's not exview or 1/2" I pretty much don't believe anything better than 0.05 lux. So many tricks some of them play adding crazy amounts of AGC etc. And I was figuring pinhole type of hit on the the 0.05 lux rating if that was even real, which matches up with what I'm seeing. -

f1.0 vs. f4.0. However we only want one or two cams visible on the front of the house, thus the pinhole. -

Here's a partial of the front step, does not look so bad at a closer distance. Plus the 620 is a phenomenal camera, and with a pinhole you are looking at around f4 which is a lot less light than those small "bullets". -

True, I considered that but at over 2x the price for exview this one more than does the job. It's never going to be phenomenal going through a pinhole, I verified that for myself putting one on a CNB BBM24F... -
KT&C KPC-S20P4 pinhole mini camera vs. Bosch LTC0620

Having done all that we did a walk test on the front of the house, it is able to get enough from the lights on the front of the house to get a very good image. The plan (long term) is to incorporate this into our intercom system. We'll only need a small hole in the external speaker for this to peek out of. Note, this runs at about the same current for 9V and 12V, as it gets pretty warm we intend to run this at 9V. Hope this helps someone, I was able to find zero images of these small pinhole cameras on the web. Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough. -

Yes, but I thought well; I pay for consumer reports monthly online so perhaps it would be of use to him. I don't see it get mentioned much, although sometimes comparison pics from there are posted by other users on this site. it doesnt get mentioned because its advertising .. Got it, at least I'm not the only one getting confused by these rules. I thought it applied to websites selling cameras and the like. Can you provide me a link to the rules so that I can try to avoid these mistakes?

Glass was a little foggy on this one (probably due to outgassing), so took it apart to clean it. Whatever you do, do not use a qtip for the part of the case that the lens looks through. Something in that little ring tears off the fibers, which are then next to impossible to remove. Anyway, not much in there (especially for a TDN). Lens looks like it would be easy enough to swap out. A small packet of silica was in the back part of the case.

I guess it's in the black plastic bit. You can see it looking frame by frame when it switches. Wow I did not even realize it was cmos, somehow it does as well or better at night than a lot of ccd types I have around here at night (with the exception of those cnb's you used to be so fond of).

Got this cellphone pic today from my girlfriend. Downtown DC.

There is a place I order from occasionally that has a couple of mics called quasar electronics. Have not tried them yet but around $10 on a little circuit board.

I was back there today and got some gas. Was talking to the guy there and he said it was for coverage on each pump, for liability. With the number of lanes and pumps I think you'd need more cameras than that for that goal, since the cars and the pumps block views. The brand on the dome cameras was focusmicro, which via google is an installer so maybe they relabel cameras. The box cameras at the end are in pelco enclosures.
-
Actually that is less than 1/2. It was the most I could fit in the picture with my cell phone.
-
Absolutely. Here is the local Costco, pic I took with my cell phone. I really wanted to take a pic of the credit union (they have a cam behind each teller) but know better as I know they flag people for that...

My understanding of the term is that true has a switchable IR filter. I have some cameras that are non true "day-night" and all they do is go to b&w at night. And some non true have IR filters some don't.

Best night vision IP cameras???
mike_va replied to Daskew78's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You want as high as possible, which is usually a combination of sensitivity and amount of light. In practice I find 1/30 is as good as 1/60 analog, since there is a larger field of view (plus there is no interlacing like most analog cams have). If you want to get a feel for it take a DSLR in shutter mode and set it at 1/30s. You'll find with some things (e.g. cars) or things highly zoomed in it is not adequate. For your setup it is fine I'd think. I have mine on the back of the house set at 1/30s. The real test is try walking around at night and see if you can get usable images. If the goal is prosecution I'd also review the number of pixels you need for recognition/identification etc. -

Thanks for posting the pics. What was the "auto slow shutter" set at, I notice the manual specs 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30 (sec.)? Or just set to auto so 1/30 sec? -
Is there a "best in class" type guide for IP cameras?
mike_va replied to Digiscan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Webcams do not do low light, wide dynamic range etc and are missing other important features. I've been happy with Panasonic NW-V502 and Axis P3344, both of which can be found new in the box on ebay in the price range you're looking at. Look around the info is out there, stick with brand names that you can find at lots of stores and have good support (Axis definitely fits in that category). Just my opinion as a hobbyist (I don't sell cameras). -

Those videos are basically useless IMO. The FPS looks to be around 2 or 3, which is pretty sad. Perhaps a sign that they are using a very slow shutter speed...it would be nice if the "results" achieved specified the shutter speed... -

Lighting up a plate which is reflective is MUCH easier than a person. It does not appear that IR you've got is rated to that distance, you should probably cut in half any stated rating and then realize that MP cameras need even more light than analog at decent shutter speeds.
