  1. Just make sure the cables can handle UV light. Some cheap cables tend to rip open on spots where there's some tension on the cables (e.g. corners) if they can't handle UV light.
  2. You can watch how it ended here
  3. I was wondering if any of you have created/supplied a mobile camera set to any customers. And if so, what communications methods did you use ? UMTS/GPRS etc. And do you happen to know how often the customers use it due to transmission costs. And what kind of settings do you use for the camera. To me it seems like a very costly solution. Our security team wants one which they can put near our roads but I recon that is going to costs allot of bandwidth. Specially since you're dealing with cars so you can't just choose a low resolution (can't read plates) nor low framerate (missing cars). And when dealing with GPRS etc., lots of bandwidth means you need a good filled wallet. It could be that bandwidth costs are just rediculous here in the Netherlands, which wouldn't suprise me. So I was wondering what your experiance is in the matter and what your opinions are regarding these mobile sets.

    Samsung SNP-5200

I got a SNP-5200H hanging here, and I'm quite happy with it. It's quite cheap and the quality is good enough. I haven't noticed any constant focus shifting so far.
  5. Axis has a nice recorder suited for mobile vehicles. It's mostly based on usage in busses so it might be a tad overkill for a car where you might have 3 camera's max. It's the Q8108-R
  6. How about avoiding Blue Iris all together when you just need 1 camera on your monitor and go for a decoder ?
  7. I takes my reseller around 72 hours as well. But you got a 30 days grace period ? So it doesn't really matter that much right ?
  8. *drewling* I wouldn't mind having that lens for my DSLR How much MP is this one ? And I wonder, how much do you actually see at night ?
  9. We just hung up a Samsung SNP-5200H. It came out as one of the best of the domes our standard suppliers had and it's cheap as well! I must say, I'm quite pleased with the quality in the late hours. Here are two images, one during the day, one at night.

    ANPR \ LPR

At the moment I have a trail version of Milestone running with a LPR trail version running. So far it's working pretty good. I did see some inconsistancies, but that's mainly due to numberplates which are dirty or bend. I just need to find out how I can get the number plate information of it. We want to use it in our weighbridges so that once a truck runs up the bridge, his plate get's send to the weigh program.
  11. I currently have this project where I have to replace a controll system for a bunch of domes. They used to have 1 on 1 controll devices which contained the protocol for each dome seperately. I now have 2 axis devices which just controll all the domes. The problem is tho, that some domes use VCL and the newer ones use Pelco D. Since the old structure was 1 on 1, the only option I have is to create a Star system which requires me to use an RS485 hub. I'm just wondering tho, do I need two seperate hubs for each protocol, or can I just use 1 large one for all domes and send both VCL and Pelco D on the same busline ? So basicly, do VCL and Pelco D bite eachother ?
  12. The Samsung SNP-5200 is quite cheap as well. I haven't had the chance to try on out yet as I haven't gotten a job yet to install one so I can't say much about the quality but the min illumination looked really good (color 0.7 Lux F1.6 50 IRE/bw 0.08 Lux F1.6 50 IRE)
  13. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3144 Prolly a bot, but just in case.
  14. The 30 days is the maximum number of time you can store your video. As far as I know, there isn't a set number of time determined when you break that law, I recon it's up to the judge to determine that. And as for the question on how would they know ? Well I recon with all crimes, they need to find out themselves. There isn't an agency which actively checks if everyone lives up to the law. There is an agency at where you need to register your cameras in regards to privacy, but that isn't directly related to actually storing the video, as you need to register the camera's in all cases, even when you don't store the video. Why they have the law, I recon it has somewhat to do with privacy. I don't see the effectiveness of it much, but seeing the history of laws we had here in Holland in regards to new technology, this doesn't suprise me so much. Also, no restrictions on quality either. We even had police commissioners complaining on TV that most CCTV have crappy quality and are rarely usuable due to poor image quality. We do have rules when it comes to audio. Afaik, no duration on how long you can store it, but the most important rule we have is that you cannot store audio as long as you aren't a part of the confersation. Meaning we can't store audio with CCTV camera's as you are never part of the conversations. So far they haven't combined CCTV laws with other data being stored. I'm not quite sure if they really need to. The part about not being able to record police actions sounds tad too 'Police state' for my likings. I would love to see a lawyer try to pull that stunt in one of our courts.
  15. So I spoke to a Milestone trainer who was from America himself who told me that America doesn't have any law that says how long you may hold your video storage. That suprised me, as here in the Netherlands, it used to be 24 hours. Luckely they recently changed it. We can now hold video for a period of 30 days. So I was wondering, how long is the max period in the countries you all live in ?
