Out of curiosity... what's something like that cost (dealer) - - please PM. Thanks, Rick

    Samsung SDC-415ND Does not exist?

Our 540TVL version of the same (same noise reduction - same OSD Menu in fact) is available in a dual voltage version (actually that's the only version we have)... and for a bit less. See it and it's "dome siblings" here and PM if interested. Thanks, Rick
  3. Any chance of catching plates of vehicles coming and going from the property instead of at the pumps - together with more general (wider angle) coverage of the same entry/exit area, and of the pumps. Thinking that a more single "controllable" point or two of entry / exit with plate capture might be easier to solve, cheaper, and good enough when tied together with "same time recorded" wider angle coverage of the vehicles / bad guys?

Well thank you... I think that explains why Samsung is so good with this low-light stuff, they obviously learned something from the fish they traded (in general fish eyes, before drying, have amazing low light performance - - however, in fairness it should be noted that don't do nearly as well once dried). As to your age, I am truly sorry - - I assumed you to be much younger. Anyway, I think the numbers still "crunch" - - I just turned 6. On posting a couple of pictures... okay. I'll see what I can do - I'll capture images of the same scene - one from a mech cut filter double-scan ccd day/night camera - the other from our SDNR DSS day/night (but after our testing of yesterday I can already tell you what you'll see - one picture will be black, the other will be a "useful" image).

Not sure what "isn't based in reality" means, Jasp... but I'd suggest you got bad info. Hard to prove no doubt (unless you have equipment to measure such things - like the design engineers at Samsung (Techwin), and easy to question..., but I'd bet on Samsung (Techwin) - -one of the largest and most respected camera manufacturers in the world - - around for longer than the two of us combined, and with a reputation worth far more than one would expect they'd gain by making up specifications. See the cameras manual here: http://www.samsungcctv.com/product/file_data/manual/20051115_0_SDC-415.pdf , and go to the bottom to see the spec, together with the signature of the QC manager (to it's CE conformance which of course has nothing to do with the camera's specified low lux performance but non-the-less I think it helps to make the point). They don’t even appear to quantify everything with the now-standard “subject to change without noticeâ€
  6. Thanks Rory - - you make me feel young (or at least still a newbie ) Take care. Rick / KrCCTV.com
  7. Cool on the stateside - - just don't land in St. Charles, MO or someplace like that. Hey.. tell you a secret on the GE Multiviewer - - I really believe they got the idea from Webgate (they met seriously at least a few years ago - - when GE was obviously looking around as eventually proved through their capture of Kalatel). At that time the multiview software was a $300 option for the older Webgate B104 - was called CamViewer. Still works like a champ (I have a big old customer in Alaska - dozens of sites - that I check on periodically). Going to sleep - - nice knowing you Rory, appreciate yor insight and your hosting of this place - - as well as your patience with my long posts (every time I try to shorten them... they grow). Will follow on getting you that sample via email in coming days.
  8. For me it was primarily the DM (but also some others) whose browser interfaces were so pitiful (and having a lot of experience with the WG servers that performed in a browser so beautifully) I was just really turned off to it. And like to say you have to install (or accept) something anyway and we all now how (especially now) browser and XP securiity issues can baffle a basic user during such a process. WIth the client (which one could download and install in about the time it takes to accept the Active-X (and pee) what's the diff. And from the manufacturers standpoint, they often suggested (maybe an excuse) that from a "security standpoint" the client was superior. Anyway... As to PC Based - - the guy I work with building systems (for his dealers) uses the Kodicom stuff - - I guess he gets a killer deal (boards only, or unbranded version or something) and likes it alot (maybe simple and trouble free) - kinda lo-res from what I remember of the specs but the pictures look great (go figure - - maybe they don't print or need much detail requiring enlarging or whatever). Anyway, I'll be sure to let him know of your capabilities. When are you moving stateside?
  9. Yes, Webgate and Samsung TW are especially close (in S. Korea). Browser issue has always been there - - there is an SDK to make (finish) your own but who's up for doing the work. I just convinced lots of folks that they could really live with the "Client" only (carry a laptop), and that it was so much better than others, it was worth it. One thing on their eDVR differential wavelet though - - I've seen it flow very nicely over 128K up - havent found a browser based do that (usually the browser gifs can't even load)... and unlike MPEG the image doesn't suffer - - just the frame rate obviously slower. I am one of those (maybe a dying breed) that believes (when it comes to DVR's) that image quality is still king (vs. fast moving "blocky" images). I was always selling (successfully) against folks offering something like 26 years storage (because they didn't want the focus to shift to their crappy pictures). You, playing in the PC Based DVR world (where I was a hard core "embedded" guy) might have seen things differently.
  10. I'll quote you on my time-lapse too JMANOFNVS - just in case
  11. I know Webgate very well Rory. Sold it faithfully for years, despite challenges (my best buddy in the bus. was there for years and I have solved a lot of unique applications with their products). Yes, it is OEM'd by those you mentioned and others, as well as their IP products by Samsung TW, Pentax, Mitsubishi and others. They are a big part of how and why I got in to this business, and their product still does some apps better than any other I've found, and believe me I've looked.
  12. Hey, as long as they are in the past and they and you have learned from them, you gotta. You'll be okay. If a manufacturer (or their biggest distributor) ever forgets that you (they, we all) are ultimately on the customer's side it is (and will be) their problem.
  13. Hey... stop ripping the site... or would you prefer the Korean characters I started with I'm busy selling stuff, okay (not to mention the divorce thing). Anyway, I'm not targeting end users that go to fancy websites full of detailed information to help them make their shopping cart decisions (that's why you and your dealers are in business)... but rather I am targeting CCTV distributors (you know... they like pictures and don't read much anyway) Please don't mention the DX7000 again - - my only bad experience with Pelco, and it was terrible. Drilled support before buying it to confirm that it would do what I needed, they said it would and it didn't. Combination of a brand new product (they didn't make) that they had no experience with (yet... and if they'd know then what experience they were about to have they might have run for the hills). Anyway, that coupled with a DVR challenged tech-support team at the time - Pelco's late entry in to the DVR market - the reason they bought the (weak) technology, and a couple of techies that said "yes" when they should have said "I don't know" or "I'll find out.". Thankfully for them they have now moved well beyond that. Anyway, I was able to solve all of my problems with a little programmable "smart-relay" with a buit-in "real-time clock" (I sold automation products for about 15 years)... but what a hassle, especially after going to so much effort before my DVR purchase. Anyway, here is the review of our camera's "technology" by the PSI group in the U.K. http://www.securityweb.co.uk/tests/cctvtests/ssnr.pdf And thanks JMAN - - I'll get you something and am glad to have met you (here) and thanks to Rory and the gang for the forum. I am a Bangers and Mash guy Rory.
  14. Yeah, and talking to my "techie" buddy over there way-back-when he said it actually works like a champ. I guess it not only boosts the signal but also corrects it to a perfect 1V p-p. And if you "beef-up" your cable here are the quoted maximums: Maximum Cable Type Effective Distance RG59/U 3,000 ft (914.4 m) RG6/U 4,500 ft (1371.6 m) RG11/U 6,000 ft (1828.8 m) RG15/U 8,000 ft (2438.4 m) Hey JMANOFNVS... did you look at my cameras yet? You don't want to miss this boat (was doing a lot of reading on UK sites where these have been a hit). I don't want to suggest that the Brits are ahead of us on some things, but they did discover that Beer (actually, Bitters, Ale, Stout) was food before we were a nation.

    Microtek

Last post was so long I just couldn't bare to make it any longer with this afterthought... The WES has a (what I recall as being kind of unique) ability to run at 5.3GHz (specific to a certain configuration - distance driven I think - check with them)... but, anyway, if it's a match then I'd expect that to help avoid interference potential as 5.8 becomes more the standard). Okay... some wireless guy... tell me "I'm an idiot." Oh... and if you are considering Microtek's servers, please call me - - I source them directly from their OEM. Night all, Rick / KrCCTV.com

    Microtek

In my opinion, Microtek's return policy is the number one reason to consider them (with other's "you bought it, you own it policies"). I've had a system in Alaska need to "go bigger" on antennas and Microtek was very flexible (watching bald eagles in a nest), and I had a couple of 1 meter dishes arrive that looked as though they'd been ridden down the side of a snowey mountain a couple of times - thanks UPS - - anyway they took care of that too). In my experience wireless is just too "ify" to not buy from someone with a return poilicy. Even with line-of-sight (which can be pretty hard to be sure of at distance, and which thankfully is less important with wireless ethernet) you don't know what interference you'll run in to (unless you've roamed with one of those very fancy and expensive "testers" the "pros" use). My buddy at Microtek (before he left to pursue his dream of "starting a rock band") good friend who didn't b.s., was telling me of tremendous successes with the WES product - - solid and easy to install (and if it doesn't work you can return it). Now, if you're a wirelss expert you can certainly "build your own" - (I guess) - check out: http://www.data-linc.com/security/index.htm for some more industrial stuff and source some big antennas. Short range - buy some Linksys stuff and stick it in a plastic box. Only thing I will say is on the real short range (like 700' throw in an obsticle or two) Analog stuff (you know, good old fashioned RF Analog Video wireless) I actually had customers report better results with the cheap stuff from China vs. Microtek's - - you know the "paddle antenna" stuff. How can that be one might ask - I think it is as simple as the fact that Microtek sticks very strictly to the FCC guidlines on output power, and the Chinese tweak theirs up a bit (less problems and really... who's checking). Just my opinion on feedback I've gotten (but thankfully not important as the Ethernet stuff is regulated differently - more power I guess) and just puts the other to shame. Anyway, you can see why I'd want something from a company with a return policy. Rick / KrCCTV.com
  17. Here is one from Pelco if 3000' will do you: http://www.pelco.com/products/default.aspx?id=229 Rick / KrCCTV.com ( pretending to be JMANOFNVS - "He sells that" )
  18. If still looking, please contact me. I've got a four channel DVR (Embedded) that allows you to also "record" (right click function) on the fly (to your PC running viewing software). A couple benefits are that the software will allow simultaneous display (up to sixteen cameras from any of our DVR's anywhere) on a screen at once (you can even create multiple pages of "groups"). Additionally these can record (not only four analog directly connected at 15ips each) but up to 12 ip cameras or servers (must be ours) at 5ips each. (and still do your remote capture to pc from them as well). Benefit (if dvr frame rate meets your needs) is that you have some options to use both DVR's and servers. Also, if you want to pull a clip from DVR locally, you can do so to USB "flash drive" and it also places "mini play" on drive (police like this as someone needs to load no software to view a clip) Finally, DVR uses a special wavelet compression for "legal integrity." Hope this makes sense. Anyway, if still in the market please contact me for a live demo - sounds like a cool application. Thanks, Rick (KrCCTV.com)

    What makes camera "true" day/night?

A couple of "write-ups" from Samsung you might find interesting. Please visit www.530tvl.com and follow the "Samsung360" and "SSNR" links to see their reports on "the technology." Samsung calls it "SSNR," at KrCCTV we call it "SDNR." Same new technology out of S. Korea. Re: HDD storage savings you should note that this will be most significant when recording scenes typically "high" in noise (like low-light situations). We firmly believe the industry, in time as always, will find this technology to be of real significance. Rick / www.KrCCTV.net

    What makes camera "true" day/night?

Wow... you guy's are awesome. Can't even approach your technical prowess (even had to spell-check the words)... but here's my two cents. In light (i.p.) of the suggestion (I think) that even ICR (mechanical cut-filter's) aren't perfect, I'm thinking that the "most true" day/night would be like those from ExtremeCCTV (or equal), with two separate (Color & B/W imagers). Now since I don't sell them, and they are expensive (but mostly because I don't sell them), I won't expound. An alternative and totally different approach (pardon the diversion from topic) is DSS (digital slow shutter). I have found (without useful IR present, natural or added via illumination) that these DSS cameras "blow-away" ICR cameras. DSS can be amazing. Though old-school technology I guess (I mean folks have been leaving shutters open since before voyeurism was a word), the digital control of how all this happens has helped a lot as of late). Anyway - - depends on your app. for sure - - no question DSS will blur movement in the lowest light (shutter slows more and more as light levels diminish) but in the case of ICR with no IR.. what's the benefit of a crisp black image?). (plug: we have both ICR and DSS cams). Awaiting your more educated thoughts on the subject. Rick / www.krcctv.com

    Samsung SDC-415

It's an awesome camera. A buddy who's been installing and in the business for about 20 years was amazed after he did some testing for us. See some examples from Samsung at www.530tvl.com . As a distributor, we sell it to dealers / installers for (see PM) (with some killer lensing prices to match - you'll want to use Aspherical + IR lens to avoid focus-shift if buying for low-light performance)... and also have an "unbranded" version made for us (same noise reduction technology) for even less for (see PM) (see www.krcctv.net for spec. SC-5352 - - also a vandal dome with the same technology). Only point to note is that these all use DSS for low light performance. Nothing performs better in the dark without added illumination from what I've seen (I mean without getting into those heat-sensing cameras)... but not good for fast motion in the dark - - go ICR (mechanical cut filter) with illuminators there if you must. Anyway... hope I was a help. Bottom line - whichever route you go... you will not be disappointed. Rick

    Spectra 3 (dome experts)

My recollection is yes... just not the other way around (no old dome drive in new back box). Anyway, one thing to consider is that you will lose some of the (new, fancy) features of the SIII but basic functionality will still be there as I recall. TO BE SURE... Call 1-800-289-9100 and ask for a "more senior" Spectra support person.

    Camera Line

Hey SD... One very significant difference though between Spytown and Northern (for example) that you really should consider. Email me and I'll share it with you - - I don't want to "go public" with my thoughts (kinda like I don't want my distributor to "go public" with my costs, ya know?)
