Rory, Why are they a pita to ceiling mount? Also, if you are not using conduit, how do you protect the holes? with screw in covers? That's not really the safest or best method. Do they make a unit with no holes in the box?

I will be doing a job in the near future where vandalism is a problem. The outside of the building needs to be monitored via cctv. The budget is tight as usual. It is a small building about 30 feet by 20 feet. The only options for mounting the cameras is on the outside walls of the building. I originally wanted to use bullet cameras with ir, but it's just not an option because they will get destroyed, or messed with. My next thought was a vandal proof dome that can be mounted on a wall, but that option is out also because it will not be able to point in the direction I need it mounted on a wall. As far as I know, there are no dome cameras that can be wall mounted and point sideways like a bullet camera. So that brings me to my question: How can I solve this problem? If I had an unlimited budget it would be more feasible, but with only about $150 to spend per camera, what can I do? Ultimately I would like to have a vandal proof, weatherproof, color, wall mountable ir day/night dome cam that can point sideways. If anyone has any sugestions, please let me know. Thanks.

rory, How do you connect to the t connector? I'm guessing the in from the camera goes to the single bnc male end, and the other open ends go to the dvr and the modulator. But how do you connect the ends that go to the dvr and mod to the t connector?

I don't know what a bnc t connector is, but I am guessing it is a splitter that allows the signal to go to 2 places. If that is the case, that would be the easiest and cheapest, but does it need to be amplified? Also, how come you didn't do it that way?

Ok, is this the best way to do it: - rg59 from camera terminated with f connector into the in on a 2 way splitter - rg59 terminated with f connectors coming out of the 2 outs on the splitter - one out goes into a modulator terminated with a bnc connector and a bnc to rca connector. - the other out goes to the dvr terminated with a bnc connector.

I have set up many cable systems for customers with modulated channels, digital cable, directv, so I am aware of all the things that must be done other than how to individually modulate channels from cctv. Can I do this: Run the cctv feed from the camera into a 2 way splitter, and run one end of the splitter into the dvr, and the other end into the modulator? If I do this, does everything need to be bnc to some other type of connector? Thanks.

A friend asked me to set up nanny cams in his home. He wants them hidden in 3 or 4 rooms. I recommended either motion detector cams or smoke alarm cams, and a dvr. I am going to do the job for a few hundred over cost of materials. He came to me today after "researching" (he knows very little about cctv) and wants me to install the Digivue DIGIVUE 60fps card in his own pc, and use that as the dvr, because he thinks that's all he needs and it will save a lot of money. I told him it's not a good idea, for many reasons. His pc is more than ample to handle the dvr part on it's own, but he also uses the pc for home use, internet, work, etc. Here is my question: 1. Can this be done and work (will he be happy)? 2. I looked up the DIGIVUE cards of which I am not familiar (are they any good?) and noticed they sell a 16 cam card with 240 fps relatively inexpensive compared to geo. Can they be any good being that much cheaper? Thanks.

Is there an easy way to copy all the drivers from a pc before you reformat, so that after reformat all you would need to do would be to renistall the drivers? Thanks.

Well, I can do the electric work myself. That's not the real problem. The real problem is the cameras will be in reach of vandals. That is why I need a vandal proof dome. But, it must be mounted on the wall, and be able to see to the left along the wall. From what I am reading my best bet is to get a decent weatherproof vandalproof dome that can be wall mounted and be able to be twisted so it can see all the way to the left along the wall. Now I just need the camera.

How well do these types of cameras work? Does the ir reflect against the clear cover? do they work as well as bullet cameras? Can all of them be mounted vertically? Thanks.

I think in another post someone mentioned some domes can see in that direction, but just how far?

Rory, I usually stick with Nuvico. I am looking for an outdoor solution that is vandal proof. That being said, what is the best option? I can't go beyond $150 per camera, and it must be a vertical mount that can see sideways almost as close as the wall it is mounted on. If ir is out of the question, then maybe I can have them install lights.

Nuvico bullet cams vertically mounted. distance: about 100ft didn't redo bnc yet on either end rg59 copper 95% 12vdc I don't think the cable goes over any lighting, but it possible. I didn't do the wiring in the building.

I am using the windows xp backup feature. I was wondering if there is a way to have it backup every night for seven days, then on the eighth day write over the 1st day, and so on. Right now it is saving every day to a single file, and it is getting large!

Thanks. I read that one a while ago though. It doesn't say if you can save backups as individual files and have then write over one another after a week or so. That's what I want to know.
