I agree with the posts above. Also it is important and helpful to know the environment/system design of your project to pick the best system for it. I have been using a lot of QNAP NVR stand alone for my IP projects but mainly for small business and residential projects. They have most of the surveillance features you need in general and are pretty affordable.

What are you going to use for video management/storage? I would recommend the QNAP NVR stand alone if you don't have anything specific in mind yet. It is user friendly, allows remote access, and affordable. Just google it and you will find a lot of information about them. it's also available on amazon...

i think QNAP does have more successful stories about NVR standalone, either in small or large scale case. i prefer relying on the reference stories that were already successfully applied.
