16 Channel Camera System on Large House

I have been using other stuff for about two years now. My friend that i have done a lot of CCTV work for has a guy we get camera's and DVR from. Took 25 years to make the connection with him. When you buy a lot wholesale that stuff is about half the price. That is the only thing that is had for me to get over when i see retail price's I would do everything in CAT 5 and ebay balems for 2 to 3 dollars a piece. You can get really good 600+ line camera's for less than what those name brand one's cost. There is no comparing a MP camera to analogue or whatever. I think it works out to 1000 line's per MP, so even a 600 line camera can not compare. I had to go into a Scrap yard and fix an automated system where there was also a security system that has never worked proper. BOY did i learn a lot. There is night and day difference between MP camera's. You can get goos lens choice with regally camera's like 2.8 too 12mm where MP lens cost a lot if they are not fixed at like 3.8 I am trying to go MP in a huge thrift store. I will tell you this: If you have any bad lighting to deal with use fewer better camera's Good IR units are like 125.00 400' distance Do not buy camera's with IR in them, i think it is a complete waist of money. It is not going to be cheep but better it works I see good MP camera's for about 400 and a really good analogue bullet for 350.00 It does get confusing. Do the most important thing/// Sight servey//// really have to get with customer on this That seams like too many camera's for that job. You really need to get with customer and put a digital camera in his hand, have him stand where the camera goes and tell him that will be close to what he will see. See what he wants. Hard to make money on CCTV very time consuming to do proper.
  3. I have been looking for this for a long time and can not find. Any suggestions. Looked at JVSG and others but want to run on Mac OS Thanks
  4. When is the cross over point to go from Coax to Cat5 with balums. When is it more cost effective. Small store on siamese cable or large department store on Cat 5 You can get Balems now for 2 dollars and box of cat5 for 68.00. Looking for a rule of thumb i guess.
  5. Put up a lot of better 620 line camera's and need to know what you guys are using to get a better picture. I use my MacBook Pro and it has very high quality screen / 1920x1200. Notice when some place's use a 1080p tv they work kinda good. Would like to find a 140.00 dollar monitor that works good 19 inch ?????

  13. I put up a lot of camera's but i am stumped on this one. I have a Thrift store where i am doing everything for free, not that that has anything to do with it. They will view cashier in the back (200 + feet away) to do pricing from time to time during the day on an idem. They need 1 camera per cashier to look at the money transaction and i am thinking about another camera for their general view. 14 foot celling doesn't work for general view. But i can target the cash drawer from it. What would you guys do. Run some conduit down from the celling is what i am thinking. Where to posistion the camera's is the question
  14. Found this for you. http://www.ambery.com/coviauovcoca.html Look cost effective. I have some of this coming up so that is why i am also interested.
  15. We have almost 300 of these out there now. $1.00 to $2.00 dollars each.
  16. Let me know how that works out.
  17. I am going to use 4 16 chanel DVR's on a job and need 4 CCTV Monitors to put up in the control room. 32 inch is what i am looking for. I was looking at the Sharp 32" TV's, I bought one for 350.00, Looked real good. Be nice to use bigger but i do not think there buget will let them. What would you guys use.
  18. How many feet away from DVR can you go with a HDMI cable before having problem's.

    Power supply Problem's

I go over to help get camera system back online and find power supply problem's. Well you know how it goes. They need them back up and running NOW. Privet run Correction facility. So i go over to the only place in town and get 2 12 volt 8 channel power supplys. Get them hooked up and next day Video loss. So i get another Power supply because there is 24 camera's there anyway. I call the company an been trouble shooting why they shut down. I have 4 camera's on one, 6 on another, and 8 on the other for now. I know the IR come on at night. It is nice and cool and dry in the IT room where they are at. Now i know why i never use 12 VOLT, I always use 24 but these camera's are Optiview 12 volt only. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH I am an idiot You know the feeling.
  20. Good stuff is not cheep and cheep stuff is not any good. Find a vendor that you can buy at a good price from and get good stuff. I do not think we are allowed to recommend sight where you can go but take your time and look around.
  21. I put the camera's where they need to be. It gets me in trouble because a lot of time is used to go the exta mile to get them right. The other companies get in and out fast because time is money. I loose a lot of money and sometime's do not get paid but i do try and get it right. Now about hight. I actually take one of our camera's and power it up off a little setup monitor i use, stand up where the camera is and you will learn a lot. It is a must i say for your question, get the right tool for the job. Indispensable Also use Dome camera's with a lens 2.8mm to 12mm really helps a lot to adjust for what you want. Or a bullet 6mm t0 50mm for longer shots. Most of the time do not look at a good picture with a big field of view, look at what asets you are trying to protect and choke it down for detail of this. Looking at big nice picture's without the detail of what you need is usless. Just call me i will do it for free

    Power supply Problem's

Would like to share this: It is not an accurate device. A 1 AMP rated PTC might never blow at 2 AMPs, and might take greater than 30 seconds to blow at 5 AMPs, thus offering no protection to the device. Once it does blow, it might require shutting off the power supply to reset it, so as to allow cool down of the PTC. In essence, it could require a service call to reset the power supply. In addition, PTCs are very temperature sensitive. They will trip at lower current ratings as the ambient temperature goes up, and higher than specified current ratings as the ambient temperature goes down. These PTC ratings can vary by +/- 50 percent over manufacturers specified temperature range. For DC power supplies, Altronix designs include electronically resetable current limiting, which are superior to fuses or PTCs, and employ the PTC for battery, motor or heater protection
