  1. Tomcctv, thank you for the suggestion, Bob and I were discussing the fact that the camera may spook the birds, that Axis one looks perfect. I will be sure to show post some footage of the cam when it goes up. Below is an aerial view of the yard i referred to in the OP.
  2. Hi all, I'm new into CCTV tech, though very familiar with computer technology, and have a few questions about a setup a friend, Bob, wants me to install. Basically Bob has an Osprey nest in his back yard, about 25 ft high up on a pole. He wants to be able to monitor and record the activity of the birds for his own interest, as well as for his grandchildren and maybe some friends. Here's the layout, I'll post a picture when i get into work tomorrow, the nest is along a bulkhead about 160 ft from the house, with nothing around it which is higher than it. About 60 ft down the bulkhead is an outlet. To avoid the hassle of trenching the entire length of the back yard, i have decided to go with an IP camera utilizing a Powerline Ethernet setup to take advantage of the existing outlet, i may tap off that outlet and run an outlet to the nest pole itself. I have also decided on the Panasonic BL-C140 camera, it fits his budget well and seems to be very well reviewed, not worried about night viewing. It will be mounted onto a vertical support which extends above the nest and angled away. I guess i am looking for insight on this setup and if i have overlooked anything critical. In the mean time i am going to search the forums for recording software that works on a Mac and is fairly simple to operate.
  3. Thanks for the response. I have a client of my Father's who wants to install a Camera to watch the Osprey Nest he has in his backyard, so the camera will be fully exposed, though i have thought about building a small "dormer" for it to help protect it. That is the least of the obstacles, as the nest is about 75 ft from the house and about 20 ft in the air!! This is my first foray into camera systems, so I've been trolling around here a bit, and have really focused in on the SDE-120, or at least some variation using the Samsung system.
  4. Liber8or, Are any of those cameras fully exposed to the elements, or are they under eaves or some what protected? Either way, how have they held up through the past few months of weather?
